New album: all tracks shelved, now restarting from scratch, release date is 2024

I don't live in US but I wouldn't consider Hung Up a "minor" hit, everybody knew it, it reached only #7 because of some stupid stations that didn't play it but the video was everywhere, the song was the biggest dance hit of the decade, she performed it in the grammys, the single reached #1 in sales, etc.

Has the music ever been bad?

Even if the foods bad, you still eat it to satisfy your hunger.

Are you still hungry?

Aren't you glad we came?

I'm glad you brought your raincoat

I think it's beginning to rain

yeah why HU reaching 7 is a minor hit, but 4 Minutes reaching 3 is big? Do 4 places matter as much. HU was miles better than 4 minutes also, but I understand that's subjective :)

Don't stone me, but Hollywood and Love Profusion are not that great in my opinion :1251: Maybe Hollywood, but I prefer the JLC remix. On the other hand I adore Nothing Fails. Even though American Life is among my favorite M albums, if I listen to the album as a whole, I'm usually not too keen on the first 4 tracks.

Blasphemy :tongue::lol:

From a US fan perspective, many great songs she's released the past 10 yrs haven't become hits. NONE of AL singles were hits (save for DAD), one minor hit from COADF with HU, one big hit from HC with 4M and of course the fly by night hit that was GMAYL from MDNA. Sorry, GT, Jump, GI2M, MA, Celebration........all great songs that either charted outside the Top 40 or didn't chart at all.

I don't quite understand how in one breath people will say chart positions are no reflection of song quality but in the next breath will use a "flop" single as "proof" of how bad quality a song is.

Exactly

Some of Madonna's biggest flop singles are among her best singles ever.

In a perfect alternate Universe, that planning is the real one.

Sometimes i think of those lucky bitches from that perfect alternate Universe. Right now they are enjoying the docu included in every tour, and the remastered bluray Celebretion video collection.

Let's put it this way, she fell off a horse on her birthday in '05 and broke 6 bones or whatever and even THAT did not delay the album release or promo. When it's done and ready, it's done and ready. If this album is done and ready (which it certainly seems like it), then it'll be out before the end of the year. MOTHERFUCKERS!!!! :wow:

The fake track list for MDNA was so promising. I remember obsessing over it and going bananas over the idea that Orbit was involved... Honestly, I love the Divadonna the most; when she gets into a role of some spiritual messenger yet knows how to have fun and kick it on the dance floor. I miss that ethereal dance queen she was up until HC. Not to say HC and MDNA eras weren't great. I enjoyed both very much. I'm just saying what I miss in my Queen for years now. That's all... Ugh, can't wait for the new album, though I'm NOT setting myself up for expectations. It will be what it will be and I'll enjoy it just as much.

I understand it's hard to believe considering HU is arguably the biggest hit of her career everywhere except the USA. Amongst the gays, club scene HU was absolutely a massive hit but on mainstream pop/top 40 it absolutely was a minor hit. I don't understand it either, but it is what it is.

Probably because mainstream pop/Top 40 stations were leaning at that time more towards R&B/hip hop influenced songs and didn't want to play a disco/dance based track.

It's not just that it was 4 places higher, it's the fact that not only was it a massive club/dance hit, but it also became a huge hit on top 40/mainstream. Madonna hadn't had radio play like that here in the US since DTM. Oh and 4M sold nearly triple what HU sold. Yes I am well aware that digital sales overall exploded between 2005 and 2008 but overall it was just a bigger hit here.......which I kinda think was the point with that song. I also prefer HU but it simply did not catch on here the way 4M did.

Well, when I visited Europe in 2011, I heard Celebration playing on a lot of radios. Which surprised me because in USA I personally haven't heard Madonna's songs since American Life. And Im talking about major radio stations that focus on current popular singles. GMAYL doesn't count for it was partly an advertisement for the Halftime Show. I really do think US radios are prejudice towards her on many levels. It pieces me off!!! It better change for this upcoming era! I want Madonna back on the US radios bitches!

It's not gonna happen unless her new song features a younger artist or is a duet ,the ban isn't for Madonna but for all the older acts

Exactly! Now that EDM has been all the rage on US radios for 5 or so years, it's easy to forget just how foreign HU sounded up against everything else being played at that time. In another time and a different place, HU probably would've been a huge airplay hit and considered one of her single releases that was "ahead of the curve" (see Music) but at age 47, following a "flop" album, it was an uphill battle for her. I hate to say it, but the AL era completely killed the momentum she had going with Music/Beautiful Stranger/ROL and besides the one off of 4M, things have never really been the same

HU was so massive here it's so weird to think it wasn't in the USA

It was #1 for multiole weeks on the physical and digital sales chart in the US

It was #1 for weeks on,TRL and had massive play on MTV and VH1

THe video was huge on a new thing called Youtube and was big on Spotify

The physical and digital sales of the single cimbined was almost 2 million copies

The song was big in the US, it was the lack of airplay due to ageism that kept it out of #1

Take this with a grain of salt, but back when DAD was on the charts, I had an acquaintance that was tight with a DJ at my local Top 40 station. Although DAD got decent airplay, it was the first single released since the very successful run of Music singles and it didn't quite match up to the airplay success of DTM. Madonna at that time + Bond seemingly equalled huge hit. My friend asked the DJ why they weren't giving DAD as many spins and he flat out said that (in so many words) because she's old, all the while saying what a kick ass song he thought DAD was. Nothing we didn't already know, but still it was interesting to hear a first hand account vs internet talk. That was 12 years ago and radio is even more corrupt now. She almost HAS to do something like a radio deal or duet etc If she wants airplay. No matter how kick ass, groundbreaking the song is, as far as US radio goes it really is an uphill battle.
