well, not a surprise actually. The process of choosing the next one will be really interesting. I have the feeling they have kept him alive until eastern weekend was over. His last action was important, to take all the money from a religious organisation and use their money to pay the people that have suffered child abuse

I was at the Vatican just last week with some friends  prior to Easter and our guide told us that she was hopeful that he would make some sort of a recovery but the situation was pretty dicey . I didn't know it ( his death )  was going to happen so quickly .

Was told an American donor paid for the restoration of one of the ceilings and the amount of arts that had been donated to the Vatican is massive .

we will have a lot of conspirations teories in the next weeks: that he was dead already, that the one we saw wasn´t the real pope, that the vicepresident of the US killed him, that the next pope will be black and will be the last one...the vatican is full of folklore!

Events like this are so fascinating. Like weddings, coronations and death/funerals of royals this is almost unreal, somehow alien to "normal" people. It really happens, but it's like watching a movie or a history documentary because much of this is based on traditions many centuries old. Obviously, the fact that the locations (castles, churches, The Vatican) are just as old and are fabulous works of architecture and other arts very much add to the illusion. Which is weird because I have been to Rome, visited The Vatican Museums, was inside St. Peters and Sistine Chapel.

The St Peter’s basilica is outrageous!!! I had to visit it twice while in Rome to eventually realize how much of a multimillion dollar institution it is!!!

there's a few seemingly "progressive" ()  candidates.. Matteo Zuppi from Italy, Turkson from Ghana and Luis from the Philippines. (the latter being very popular for his sense of humor..) seeing that Franciscus was outspoken in his support for people from diverse backgrounds getting opportunities, there's a chance they wanna continue his view on that..

The Catholic Church is just an outdated power structure that’s serves no purpose other than to sustain its own power. Francis didn’t change anything. I’m sure he was a nice old man and all deaths are sad, but beyond that, the worldwide mourning is ridiculous.

Although he may have been the least worst of the popes, the fact remains that he was the representative of a racist, sexist, and homophobic institution responsible for abuse, exploitation, and injustice for 2,000 years. So, there's no reason to make a fuss about his death.

I absolutely agree nobody can deny the atrocities of the Catholic Church over the last 2000 years.

But that isn’t his fault, yes he was the leader of it in a modern age but he can’t change what’s gone before, like King Charles, you can’t blame him for the British Royal Family’s past being the most ruthless and criminal family in the land.
