luluthecat
I'm all for being subversive, and like lot of Balenciaga's work, but yeah as a rule just leave the kids out of it.
jonski43
Their clothes have become a joke. Shock value with outrageous prices that's turned the brand to trash. Keep it for the Kardashians.

ULIZOS
I was just kidding. This whole thing came off as a publicity stunt, as if they were trying to come off as edgy or something.
jonski43
It seems they've got more child photography that's even worse https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11478251/Balenciaga-campaign-features-book-Belgian-Michael-Borremans-known-depicting-naked-kids.html?ito=native_share_article-nativemenubutton

Art is supposed to be strange and make people think. I cant with gen z and do many people on social media looking to get offended these days. Not everything is literal. Sorry but.. since when are the youth so fucking prude? This feels like the conservative alt right jumping in with their usual “wont somebody please think of the children” anti sex and homophobic “propaganda”. Dont fall for it. You might think images that have direct references to child abuse are "artists disturbing the peace" but I don't. I have friends that have to deal with this kind of stuff and it's unbelievably horrible. It isn't conservatism thinking that papers which refer to actual child abuse is unacceptable It's this kind of trying to act cool and not be shocked which enables serial abusers to continue in plain sight such as Uncle Terry, Harvey Weinstein etc. https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2022/nov/29/balenciaga-apologises-for-ads-featuring-bondage-bears-and-child-abuse-papers
karbatal
Art is one thing but glorifying abuse is another. That painter can fuck off

They're paintings of naked children. The Italian Renaissance, Rubens (Borremans' biggest inspiration) DaVinci, Botticelli, Velazquez, El Greco,V. D Weyden.. so many with paintings of nude children. Many of these are some of the most incredible works of art ever made. if we go this route, might as well burn all the museums and churches down.. just ban all historic art that shows nudity

I was so focused on the comparison with Reinsssance that I answered too strong. I’m sorry you are right. I don’t agree much. Old paintings depict nakedness as beauy or as nature. Not sexualised. But then again those children holding the prepuces may be a criticism to the mutullation of babies for religious reasons and not sexual either. So I’m not sure if I agree or disagree. I would need more data
Django
Sorry but what is the point of all this child pornography references? Those paintings? This is not art. It has nothing to do with the renaissance and I highly doubt this has something to do with trying to raise awareness about any of those issues, other than being just old plain shock value without substance mixed with arrogance. This is a fucking overpriced clothing brand, not Amnesty International.

Always love to see room for discussion ) My comments were about the painter, not balenciaga, who i believe wanted to provoke for publicity. Theyve been trash for years. promise to try
the pictures make me unconfortable.I don´t know if they are porn, but certainly is not something that I have ever thought close to a child. I guess that´s part of the plan, then they apologise, and continue selling their ugly expensive clothes
