I agree which makes me think even more the album will drop this year otherwise she will be playing finished songs from her new album months before she releases it.

The last listening parties I can recall were for Hard Candy, and that's exactly what she did. Held them in Dec '07, four months before release.

Yeah but that was 10 years ago for a label who gave a shit and wanted to plan a marketing strategy and also before someone leaked an entire album of hers months before it was even finished. Hopefully she's learned something from that at the very least

Things were very different back then Warner’s always held these listening parties to create buzz for the albums in a way of re introducing the new eras to the press.

Of course now at Interscope she gets nothing but that’s a different debate....

After her feeling like she got raped artistically and after RH leak-gate playing part in destroying any chance of commercial success for RH, I doubt she would want to reveal anything finished before the delivery of the album is on the very verge of release.

Sure, listening parties are themselves quite an old concept, so if they're doing that then they might be doing everything that way. I'd like to think that's exactly what they are doing; planning a decent marketing strategy. So I really don't get this "why is she just sitting on the record?" talk (assuming it is finished)

One thing I do remember about the HC previews is that's how we learned that the Beat Goes On demo that did indeed also leak in advance, was nothing like the final version.

God I hope so too!!

I know the listening parties are an old concept but they were always a brilliant way of introducing the press to Madonna’s new music.

Her previous releases on Interscope felt like they were sneaked out.

God yeah we all hope for some kind of strategy for this album.

There probably wasn't much point holding a listening party for Rebel Heart given ever cunt and their nanna had already heard it 6 months before

That’s very true indeed!

Did MDNA get the listening party treatment ? I know it was pulled together very quickly....

And is the listening party concept still a big deal in the music industry ?

Yes, Liz Rosenberg did a listening party for MDNA at her office 3 weeks before the album was released.

“Girl Gone Wild” (still listed as “Girls” in my hand-out, oopsy) opens the album and is, for my money, a scorching-hot song. Is it “Madonna?” No; she didn’t write it or anything. But it’s a terrific opener and undeniable (to me) fun. “Gang Bang” is like “GGW” on female Viagra (chocolate?)—it’s a dark, driving club stomper, aggressive as hell. It has a techno edge that reminded me superficially of “Control” by Traci Lords. (A song I love. And please don’t take any of my comparisons too literally; there was nothing that sounded…reductive.) Mika came up with this???

“Turn Up the Radio” is a sweeping, joyous pop-dance song as anthemic as “Get Together,” one of my very favorite post-Ray of Light songs. “Give Me All Your Luvin'” sticks out like a sore thumb on this album. I remain a fan of it, but it’s not near the top of my MDNA list.

Loved hearing “Superstar,” complete with Lola singing backing vocals! A charming and fluffy song (“ooooh, la la!”) that felt for me like “Little Star” had grown up and was having fun.

The suite of songs “Love Spent,” “Masterpiece” and “Falling Free” is probably going to please any Madonna fan I’ve ever met. They’re beautifully sung and are not cursed with oversimplified lyrics, nor do they sound like they care much if asinine radio programmers will like them. “Falling Free” is my fave song of the album so far, gorgeously sung, a total stand-out. Go, Joe Henry! Keep it together, indeed.

Now, I’d heard the bonus tracks were to die for, but who knew that a rumor would be true times 10? “Beautiful Killer” is a fucking great Orbit-sounding Solveig song (could Orbit really not have had a hand in this one???). How in the HELL this is not on the album proper, how in the HELL this is not a title track, I’ll never understand. Even the cringe-inducing title “I Fucked Up” turns out to be a really pretty, plaintive pop song. “B-day Song” didn’t seem to have its guest star—M.I.A. was M.I.A.

At some point, Nicki Minaj declares Madonna the only queen.

I genuinely loved most of what I heard. I would be shocked if many people didn’t feel this was a vast improvement over Hard Candy which, let’s be honest, was a good record. There are definitely songs on here that are personal, uplifting and inspiring mixed among the far louder “I’m still hot and young, fuck me in any hole you can!” club crushers.

Good man Matthew , he was spot on in his review . MDNA was a true return to form after hard candy , pity he and I are the only ones that think that though .

Always enjoyed MDNA too.  Love a lot of songs on it.  We are in the minority but definitely around. Loved Rebel Heart a lot as well. Can't wait for the new album

Well we're working with what we've got.

One could surmise that if they're willing to let a group of random strangers have a listen to some tracks, they'll do the same for music media...or maybe not. Or maybe it'll be like that Grindr chat with Madonna ...that never happened, or maybe...

Precisely. In other words, futile...sometimes it’s best to just go for a walk and think about other things while this crazy adventure we call life unfolds before us.

Listening parties are still a thing, Xtina and Ariana did them with their last albums.

I think that she’s doing the final touches but it’s coming between December-February.

Next week October begins and it looks like November is out of the question.

I hope Interscope arrange one for the new album it would be a great way to start the ball rolling out to the press.

Well we do know Billboard (who produced Ghosttown) and singer/songwriter Starrah was working with Madonna earlier this year.

Yes,  .  I thought she might have one or two songs with them but was completing the album with Mirwais.  Just an assumption I know but going from the message she posted about wanting not to be involved in writing camps etc,  felt it could be like that.

We will have to wait and see.

Really? I hadn't heard! I gave up reading the threads here as it was all dreadful artwork and song titles. 😂

It was in the auction in Monte Carlo earlier this week

It wasn't described as a listening party though. The auction website stated the auction as: "the Queen of Pop invites the winning bidder and up to three guests to join her in her London recording studio to preview some of the songs from the album with her."

So this news about a listening party is new, or just..., made up.
