fak Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 i think it has the chance to have huge sales in the UK. dont see why it should not sell over a million or even 2 but theres no huge leadsingle, little promo so not many know its out. i wonder if its going to ed up like GHV2? If she would do promotion, this release would go through the roof... It's a great pitty that she does not use the opportunity. The sales would be amazing...
Guest Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 ^ Yep, that was the case for Hard Candy last year...#1 in the mid weeks in its second week but come Saturday and she slipped a place to #2! But then saying that, the competition between her and Scooter last year was pretty tight, her lead over Muse right now seems quite big..well i hope so anyway!
Guest SuperPop Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 terrible sales for Mika a disaster after the 2Xplatinum debut album..
Zezwer Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 terrible sales for Mika a disaster after the 2Xplatinum debut album.. He gets what he deserves! The lead single is ridiculous and his whole approach and style is already tired after one album. He is kinda like Scissor Sisters in that way... there's just soo much queeny music you can take...
fak Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Mika is nt doing that bad. Is his current album supposed to be any different to the last album? Celebration was being given away on a radio station around Southport. They were playing songs from the album I think every 1 hour so great bit of exposure there. When they played a song you had to be the certain number to pick up a copy. Makes you think if they played Miles Aaway did anybody bother calling? Would they have known its an M song?

aeroco Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Good opening sales for Madonna then, an extra 25k sold over Friday and Saturday. Looks likely that sales will remain strong next week and hopefully just a small percentage drop. (unlike HC which fell off the scale week two). Surprised her singles position is confirmed already as they are only in low top 30 on the radio 1 chart show....nice insider info.
aeroco Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Also from UK Mix: UK current decade opening week sales: 217.000 COADF 2005 152.000 Music 2000 95.000 Hard Candy 2008 88.000 GHV2 2001 77.000 Celebration 2009 65.000 American Life 2003 22.000 The Confession Tour 2007 Considering the time of year, Celebration has done well and has plenty of time to outsell GHV2 by the year end. Am sure it will as it combines the appeal of TIC with a good selection of her 90/00s hits in a very good value package. Plus the 1 disc will probably sell well over time as it is more likely to be reduced to £5 or under 2010 onwards. BTW, the single sold 21.6k (total 63.3k). Decent second week sales but not great either.
Guest Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Oh my i am totally over the moon, great news!!! I'm so delighted I'm glad the single is still top ten as well...but 77k for the album is just brilliant, well done M!

HolidayGuy Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Nice showing for the album. And, lawdy- does a single hitting #1 spike airplay THAT much in the UK? That Taio Cruz track jumped from 20 to 2.

HolidayGuy Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Do UK iTunes buyers not purchase album tracks as much as USA buyers when an album is released? I'm thinking of non-singles often selling enough to chart on the Hot 100, but neither of the other new tracks on Celebration sold enough to crack the top 100. It's very possible that if "Revolver" is available for individual purchase in the USA, that it may not sell much, either.
paradise Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 anyone think m can make it 2 weeks at number 1?
markm Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 anyone think m can make it 2 weeks at number 1? Whats her competition?
Guest Danny86 Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 HG, since there's no removal rule in the UK and the bottom of the chart is usually filled with recent singles that used to be huge, I think it's harder to break the top 100 for cherry picked tracks. Of course it still happens, like GI2M broke the top 75 in the album release week and probably acts like BEP did it this year. But in the case of Celebration, it could not work because iTunes sales were lower than usual and most likely this was a release where people preferred to download the whole thing. No ITG, LAP or HU in the top 200 is a clear sign of this. I think in the US on the Billboard Hot Digital Tracks there will be some old Madonna hits appearing. About your airplay comment, I think UK radio is usually forced to follow the hype, I might be wrong but I don't think any actual hit can end up with lower than decent airplay.
Apples388 Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 I have a feeling Muse may go back to No. 1 next week...
Guest Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 I reckon Madonna might be able to hang on for another week, her only real competition this week i would say is still Muse.
Bitch Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Madonna equals Elvis Presley with 11 top-selling albums in Britain LONDON (AFP) – Madonna secured her 11th number one album in Britain on Sunday when her greatest hits collection "Celebration" shot to the top of the charts -- equalling Elvis Presley's record. The pop diva's collection of 36 hits spanning her lengthy career knocked Muse's "The Resistance" from the number one position in its debut week, the Official UK Charts Company said. The singer has now matched Elvis Presley's record of 11 number one albums for a solo artist in Britain, and is four behind The Beatles who hold the all-time record of 15 top-selling albums, according to the company, which compiles the weekly rundown. Madonna also becomes the most successful female solo artist of all time in Britain with the most weeks at the top of the album charts -- 29 -- the most number one singles -- 13 -- and the most chart doubles for topping the singles and album charts simultaneously - four, the company said. The top of the singles chart remains the same, with singer songwriter Taio Cruz holding on to the number one spot for a second week with "Break Your Heart." __________________________________________________________________________ I believe she'll pass the Beatles in the future, or at least compare their record.
