Kylie's X may be flopping, but she has been dominating this thread since she released her album... After about 8 months, and most posts on here are about her... I am quite neutral about her, despite not being in the CHARTS anymore.

I dont know what is being posted in here is true or a joke. Cause if it is true, it is rather pathetic what Kylie fans are asking for... I just cant believe someone can be such a loon. They need to get a life

Hasn't X sold almost 500,000 copies in the UK?

Yes, its at about 450,000 i think, but it was released in november and had the benefit of christmas sales to boost its figures. It only opened at #4 and had its opening sales were a good bit off Hard Candy's opening numbers.

Hasn't X sold almost 500,000 copies in the UK?

Hard Candy has sold about 250,000?

X was in the bargain bins - £3.99 two months after release. HC is still selling steadily and hasn't had any major reductions other than the odd - 'supermarket album of the week' which every album gets to be.

X was hyped for months in advance of it's release and got loads of promotion - TV special etc. If you're going to compare it with anything, it should be COADF.

Today's chart so far:

#35 Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake - 4 Minutes

#36 Kylie Minogue - The One

From Haven: "So, Kylie's 45th hit becomes her smallest ever solo success (excluding the collaborations with Visionmasters and Towa Tei). It brings a run of 16 consecutive top ten hits to an end. It does give her an impressive 415th week on chart, enough to rank her 16th in the all-time table."

That's a record now, for an album returning to the No. 1 position. I gather it's because of Mamma Mia! in the UK (as the movie has boosted Abba's albums in the USA< as well). The movie itself looks to be a big average production (based om its metacritic score of 51).

I hope ABBA gold sells more than Oasis' album. And look at MJ's albums, he was so big! and Bad was huge in the UK!

also, do you know where the first Queen's greatest hits is on this ranking??

Abba may sell more than oasis, but will take a long time. Oasis is releasing a new album soon, so sales of its catalog albums will increase too. Madonna should be num 9 at the end of the year

has Abba Gold been remastered, or is the one charting this week still the original 1992 version?

There is a remastered version, I think it had like 3 more editions released since 1992.

HC and GITM have both improved from their mid-week position. Even 4 Mins has imporved - Kylie fans were boasting The One was outselling 4Mins this week - until the final results were announced.

PTT is right GITM has improved album sales and position - i hope we dont wait too long for MA

In comparison, American Life was at #46 in its 14th week on the chart. It only spent 5 more weeks in the Top 75. HC has not left the Top 30 yet, so while it doesn't show in sales at all, if we go by chart positions, HC easily beats AL.

Today's chart so far:

#35 Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake - 4 Minutes

#36 Kylie Minogue - The One

:lmao:

And the Kylie loons were claiming she was doing better than Madonna on the basis of it being higher the 4 Minutes.

How many weeks has 4 Minutes spent on the chart?

From Haven: "So, Kylie's 45th hit becomes her smallest ever solo success (excluding the collaborations with Visionmasters and Towa Tei). It brings a run of 16 consecutive top ten hits to an end. It does give her an impressive 415th week on chart, enough to rank her 16th in the all-time table."

And to think her fans were claiming she'd beat Madonna's run of 35 top 10 hits between 1984-1994 :lmao: She couldn't even manage to exceed Madonna's second run of consecutive top 10s, 17 between 1996 and 2003 :lmao:

Yeah, Gold has been released several times and it's nowhere near as impressive as Queen's GH, which really has appealed across the board albeit boosted by the untimely death of Freddie Mercury.

If Warners do release a definitive Madonna GH then they need to delete TIC and GHV2 otherwise it won't be a big seller with other options available.

GI2M has been a BONAFIDE hit, beyond her core fanbase - top 20 as an album download only, maintaining a good position when the single comes out as well as boosting the ablum. The HC era ain't as bad as some are saying as she's holding up on individual tracks as well as maintaining steady sales of the album. My guess is Miles Away will go to radio in mid-September with a release in late-October.

No exact Madonna sales from MW but posting this for ABBA:

Abba's Gold becomes oldest album to top chart

10:12 | Monday August 4, 2008

By Alan Jones

Here we go again: Abba’s Gold: Greatest Hits returns to the top of the album chart this week, stealing chart honours from Coldplay’s Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends by 30,254 sales to 27,135.

Abba’s ninth number one album, Gold: Greatest Hits first topped the chart on October 3 1992. It was dethroned the following week by REM’s Automatic For The People, and did not return to the summit until 1999, when it had three separate spells at number one, adding five weeks to its table-topping tally.

Its latest revival makes it, nearly 16 years after its initial release, the oldest album to reach number one, and marks the culmination of its massive revival in the wake of the success of the Mamma Mia! movie, an adaptation of the successful stage show which is based on the songs of Abba. Gold: Greatest Hits has moved 92-43-12-5-2-1 in the last five weeks, and its latest surge has increased career sales of the album to 4,191,426.

Galvanised by the success of second single All Summer Long, which is number one this week, Kid Rock’s Rock N Roll Jesus album debuts at number four on sales of 19,396. The album, which sold 6,532 copies on ‘soft’ release before its official launch last week, is by far the highest-charting album of the 37-year-old rocker/rapper’s career. His only previous appearance in the Top 75 came in 2000, when The History Of Rock reached number 73. It has sold 69,038 copies but Rock’s biggest selling album, by a whisker, is 1999’s Devil Without A Cause, which has sold 71,415 copies despite reaching only number 172.

It is a year to the week since Amy Macdonald’s debut album, This Is The Life, made its first chart appearance, storming to number two behind Paul Potts’ One Chance. Potts’ album title did not prove to be prophetic, however, as Macdonald seized a second chance to top the chart in January. The album has cooled somewhat since then but has remained comfortably in the Top 75 for the entire year, never falling below number 61. It slips 26-33 this week, with sales of 4,555, taking its career tally to 651,022.

After securing the highest weekly sale yet by a compilation, Now! That’s What I Call Music 70 suffers a considerable dip in this week, with sales down 62% to 145,386, taking its 13-day sales tally to 528,427. To put it in context, that is still more than the next seven compilations put together – despite runner-up Mamma Mia!’s robust sale of 63,645 - and almost five times the sales of the number one artist album.

Now! 70’s second week decline it compares very favourably with immediate predecessor, Now! 69, which followed up its almost equally spectacular first week sale of 382,759 with a 71.5% dip to 109,263 sales the following week. Now! 69 remains the year’s biggest selling compilation – and second biggest seller overall - with 817,946 sales.

Now! 70’s slide contributed to a precipitous 24.2% dip in sales in the compilation sector last week. Although artist album sales rallied 3.3%, overall sales in the album sector were down by 7% to 2,037,792. That’s 5.75% below same week 2007 sales of 2,161,073, when Now! 67 sold 113,778 copies, and Paul Potts’ One Chance sold 45,868 copies; and 24.73% lower than same week 2006 sales of 2,707,007, when Now! 64 sold 143,699 copies, and James Morrison’s Undiscovered sold 84,511 copies.
