:) Way to go Madge, i defy anyone not to class this song as a flop now, it may end up outselling sorry and most of her other more recent second singles, but still, #7 is woefully low, compared with #1 for sorry, #2 for hollywood, #4 for dont tell me and #2 for ray of light, music climate may be different, but not THAT different. I think the main issue here is that she is just being lazy and complacent.

What you just said is a contradiction in terms. "It may end up outselling her recent second singles" (presumably those you've just listed) but then you say "#7 is woefully low" and "it's a flop". So, which is it. If it outsells her recent second singles, chart position doesn't matter and is obviously successful, unless your calling Sorry, Don't Tell Me and ROL "flops".

Yes, the climate is THAT different. Second singles won't be reaching high chart positions now. And Madonna is lazy? Did she promote "ROL", "Hollywood" or "Sorry"?

Guys, the tour will start in 4-5 weeks, so HC sales can't be so catastrophic. Then there will be a third and a forth single to help sales. She can easily stay in the top40 until Xmas time and if that happens, HC won't catch Coadf, but could be more than 2xP.

That's another problem with releasing a spring/summer album. There are virtually no shows to promote her shit on as all the shows have finished. What do people feel about her doing an X-factor performance when the season returns? Would people have an issue with that? Remember that show, along with Strictly Come Dancing, garners up to 11/12 million viewers. I know it's all very "Kylie" but The X Factor is a big-budget show and she doesn't necessarily have to talk to the contestants, simply perform in the results show. There's Saturday Night Takeaway which would be a good atmosphere because the audience are pissed from the free alcohol they're given before the show.

At the moment, where is there to promote? It's either Loose Women or T4, both of which would lower

her status completely.

Re-reading what i wrote, it actually doesnt make sense at all, but what i meant to say was, it is a flop in terms of chart position, if that is how you choose to judge success, but not a flop if you choose to judge success by sales.

Well no, but she did considerably more promo for the first singles and the album with those, this whole era is lacking in promotion was my point

Fine, there wasn't promotion for second singles per se but plenty of promo when the album was released.

ROL= National Lottery performance/Johnny Vaughn interview

Hollywood= Jonathan Ross/CD UK/TOTP?

Sorry= Parkinson/Brit Awards/Dermot O'Leary Interview

HC= Nothing from what I can remember. Let me know if I'm wrong

What does that have to do with the chart peak of the second single anyway? And yes, Madonna is not doing promo, but that's not her responsibility, that would be Warner's. She's about to do her biggest tour ever but you call her lazy because she didn't promote "Give It 2 Me" on British tv so it could reach the Top 5...

Again, what does that have to do where the second single peaks? All those shows just contributed to the first week of album sales, that's all, and to the lead off single, but "4 Minutes" became one of her biggest UK hits without any promo other than the Radio 1 gig.

Exactly. The clear example is Take a bow, the single that spent more weeks at #1 in the States, but it sold more or less like You Must love me, that peaked at #18.

You cant compare singles sales in 2005 with now. The same way that album sales have dropped, singl sales have increased a lot. If Sorry were released now, it would definetely outsell GI2M.

i dont think Madonna performed sorry on brit awards.

i would hate to see madonna on x factor - its so kylie.

If you can think of a better British promotional outlet, let me know

Madonna did not perform at the Brit Awards in 2006. Weren't there many fans who were jumping off bridges because Madonna chose to do the same "Hung Up" routine at the Grammy Awards instead of premiering "Sorry" at the Brits?

Anyway, X-factor or not, I think it's safe to say Madonna is not going to appear on tv in this era unless the tour gets a live broadcast. Maybe if LN wants to push her more, she will be back on tv shows during the next era. But we have to accept Warner didn't push Madonna enough to promote on tv. I still fail to see why she has to be called lazy for that though.

Give it to me at number 10.

well, that's better than I expected!!!! and with the concerts being so close, this single is still going to sell quite well!

And I'm sure the album will be back at top ten!

It's advertised on tv a lot because of Mamma Mia!, it seems in the UK there are STILL people existing who don't have it yet.

Ooh just catching up on the UK chart action while I've been away. Disappointing peak for G12M but I'm sure the remix ep being classed as an album didn't help. Great to see HC back in the top 10 but a shame that it's falling. I was in HMV yesterday buying my copies of G12M and I overheard two queens asking one of the assistants about the 'new' album by Madonna and enquiring 'does it have that track on it she did with Justin Timeberlake?' They said they didn't even know she'd released a new album - the guy showed them the special edition but said that he was only aware of it including some boiled sweets. :lmao: Anyways, this just PROVES that the lack of promo has been a factor in HC's poor sales - if there are queens out there who don't know she has an album out then what hope is there.

Oh and to those of you who said G12M was an excellent choice for single number 2 - I TOLD YOU SO

Album sales are appalling in the UK.

26205 Coldplay

25842 ABBA

24928 Basshunter

... with the exception of the Now! compilation:

383002 Now 70

4 Minutes took a hard hit because all the songs on Now 70 got a download surge with the digital release - e.g. Sam Sparro, Estelle.

HC sold around 8-8.5K. Total: ~248K.

GI2M around 13K. Total: ~70K.

4M around 5-6K. Total: ~390K.

No exact sales so far, unless funkydita shows up
