Guest jamesshot
Now folks - remember Mariah's folly when you insist that Madonna's numbers are low due to her lack of promotion. Mariah promoted everywhere and it did not help her - and even if Obsessed didn't go top five, it's still a popular song and people know it - so, to suggest that Madonna would do better if she had a bigger hit song is also off the mark. When you're an established artist, the people who are interested in buying your music will buy it. Occasionally you may drum up some new fans, but at 20 years in the industry (for both ladies), converts are rare. The only real exception is a huge breakdown and then a built-up comeback - ala Whitney, Britney, and Mariah with the Mimi album. So unless Madonna has a huge fall from grace, there is no comeback which means there is no media interest which means no big hit albums. I still disagree. There was much nostalgia to mine with this GH package.People over 40- those that were growing up in her heyday but lost since left the Madonna train- would be very interested in this. They even like many of her newer stuff. She could really have whipped up a great deal of excitement and played on nostalgis. It would have worked. Mariah's promotions was bad so it is no surprise her records sales reflected that.

horn
Lambs are now hoping for: 1. SS figure will be different so that another Prince VS Keith Urban miracles to happen 2. Turn their table around and rooting for Babs, whom they had been dissing before the hits results, to get her 9th #1 (if SS is different) so that Madge can't tie with her if her next album goes #1 3. Mimi will hold up steadily in order to have another shot at #1 on its 2nd week (They need to move on from TEOM seriously) 4. The remix MOAIA album will have a chance to get a #

Nightshade
Mariah's promotions was bad so it is no surprise her records sales reflected that. I think Mariah did a healthy amount of promotion, but as iTunes indicated, nothing on this album (as far as "Obsessed" or "IWKWLI" are concerned) was runaway hit material. The overall marketing strategy was poor - she performed on Oprah (a sales magnet) TWO WEEKS before her album even dropped. She did her husband's show back in August. Two much drive was put behind the singles and not the album. Who wants this shit stain of an album when you've already downloaded the two tracks arguably worth owning? I suspect this album will struggle to cross 500k in the US. Forget about 1 million - it *might* hit that worldwide but even that will be a stretch. Her second biggest market - Japan - is not showing love for this album either.
promise to try
I forgot about that one! It scanned something like 1.1-1.2 million in the US. Is it certified for 3xplatinum yet? that´s so true... the only scary thing about mariah´s situation is that she did eveyrthing that she was supposed to do in orther to have a successful album.Anyway, a top 3 position is not that bad, rememeber that is a busy week, and even great albums like >Bedtime stories charted at number 3...the interesting will be how her next singles work andn if they help the album. the most importantbthing about this week, more than mariah not being number 1 or madonna´s top ten , is barbra´s success! but the album is really good, so it´s hardly a surprise

Guest boytoyville
I figured some sales of Babs album woudn't be included in the hits predictions because it was being plugged at more unconventional outlets as well such as QVC that soundscan tracks but not hits. Good job for Babs.

Ciccone's Cheeks
yeah, the least of this is "Babs pulling ahead of M by 2 #1 albums lol". Not the best news, but the least of it. Point is, Mariah simply had her release date changed to BEAT both Babs and Madonna! Shes very, very aware that Barbra holds the lead, so she was trying and *expecting* to make a point - that shes more popular than them and will be leave them both in the dust with #1 albums lol. Smack in the face of humble lamb pie. Good for Barbra! 4get about Mariah at this point. The one I could see surpassing the record is actually Britney Spears!! lol. Shes only 28 and already has like 5#1 albums. Well, at least Babs is more ahead now! Ill take her over Mimoo and Britney lol ANYday!
motherandfather03
70k is good enough, considering the promo level, and i-tunes "cherry picking" factors. Hopefully, the second week drop wont knock M out of the top 100 albums. The i-tunes adds have been taken down so the free-fall there has begun. Any word on the release of revolver? Basically there is 7 weeks till the thanksgiving weekend sales here in the US, so hopefully the album can float along until then so it wil be able to ride the christmas wave. Guest Danny86
Can't find any info on Billboard. How sure are they? Billboard won't be updating for at least 3 more hours. It's possible Barbra's record label already checked the final SoundScan numbers. Those are already available for subscribers, I remember the Keith Urban vs Prince thing, somebody posted the numbers very early but nobody believed them until Billboard itself updated with the same exact numbers. Zezwer
Madonna debuted better than I guess we all realistically expected just some weeks ago... good for her... another top.10 with almost zero promo, a country and radio against her, and with a GH filled with already available material except for some flop single and bonus track Mariah and her shitty album debuts at #3 with loads of promotion and radio kissing her ass... I would have hoped for Paramore to be #1 instead of Barbara though cause now Madonna need to get two #1's in a row to tie with Barbara for most #1's for a female.. oh well
aeroco
Not a bad start for Celebration. Hope it picks up stealth sales over the coming months, unlike Mariah.
Ciccone's Cheeks
lolololol!!! i love u, buzzy!!! major smoooochies! :vanitybonet: XXOO. back at u doll! Again, In just saying that Madonna now being 2 #1 albums Barbra is not the big of deal to achieve. Barbra is 17 years old than her lol, so I think in 17 years madonna can easily surpass 9 #1 albums long as the material is hot . Just her fanbase alone would gaurantee big enough 1st week sales for more #1 albums. KEY thing here is Mooriblah did NOT tie M and get closer to Barbra. Some here need to release all that!lol. * This shows if Mimoos material is subpar, people and even many lambs desert her. With Madonna shes NEVER debuted that anywhere that low with a new studio album. Again, WTG Barbra!
