Celebration on iTunes

if you want my honest opinion, its too early to decide whether or not this is a flop or not

right now, its basically reached 3rd single status.

the country doesnt even know about the song, plus the video hasnt been released

it just needs some exposure

"Third single status" = misses the Hot 100 entirely. The last time she had a 3rd single even make the chart was 2001 with WIFLFAG at #23.

CONSPIRACY

Yeah -- the first night that the mp3 was available on Amazon, I typed "Madonna Celebration" into the search field, and you know what came up? The first search result was Whitney's new album, the second search result was Mariah's new album. THEN the Madonna results -- and none of them on the first page were even the CELEBRATION CD. So then I refined the search to search in the "MP3 Downloads" section and the Celebration mp3 was there, but... I thought that was slightly sketchy. I typed in the artist and song title perfectly, and it still gave me two other "artists" first. Goofy.

I did a little research. Shakira's "She-Wolf" went as high as #16 on US itunes the first couple of days after its release. Airplay was terrible however(less than 3.5m AI). The song started to fall quickly, it went as low as #73! Fans on Shakira boards were calling it a terrible flop, etc etc. Then airplay started picking up(currently at 23.6 m AI which is not a great number but still...), the video was released and Shakira is now a Top10 smash. So, people will you plz calm down? "Celebration" WILL be a hit!(it already is to me)

IMO, the problem is that only us fans know that the song is out...There's no buzz outside, among the casual buyers. Celebration just needs time! As soon as people are aware, the song will start gain monumentum, just as Shakira's She wolf. This time I bet we'll see slow and nice gains in a steady race to the top, instead of having a single that reaches its peak as soon as it's out and then starts a catastrophic fall.Maybe it won't be the greatest chart topper, but mark my words: word of mouth has just begun, we're going to have at least a moderate hit in US.

And people believed this would be #1... :lmao:

"C" is a big bad flop!

only someone delusional could say that 'Celebration' would hit no1 in US...if she didnt manage to hit the top spot with 4M with the aid of Justin (which guarantees a hit in US nowadays), then I doubt she is gonna have a no1 in the near future..

I think its already peaking - not just U.S. - but worldwide. I just dont see at this point how much more a song like this can do. Sorry, but its simply a throwaway (neither horrible, nor great)otherwise 4gettable song compared to what shes capable of. Be greatful this wasnt her FIRST single from Live Nation lol.

Respecting your opinion, I think it's impossible to say at this early stage whether it's going to flop or not, especially worldwide. Singles from A-list artist NEVER peak in the first week of release.

Didn't you say 3 days ago that this will be her biggest hit since Hung up, I think you're losing your mind

As of right now, i can only see this song as a Jump sized hit, becoming an AC hit.

How in the hell is THIS song "Adult Contemporary"?

I understood the whole reasoning of sending Jump to A/C first but Celebration sounds like it's on meth. How is it gonna blend in next to Kenny Loggins, Celine Dion and Dan Fogelberg (3 artists that IMMEDIATELY spring to mind when I think "A/C stations")?

At least its staying in the 25 range +/- 5 and not falling down the chart. That should be enough for a decent debut.

Airplay was never terrible for this song. It grew steadily from the start. What is accurate is your iTunes stats. Here's a full history of its airplay:

She Wolf was released to radio on July 13, the actual add date was a few weeks after that.

If those are Mediabase numbers for She-Wolf, Mediabase does not track Latin airplay, so airplay is much higher than that (perhaps by as much as 10-15m impressions).

How did that song get sooo many plays on Pop stations??

Its probably because radio saw it as something different. This is the type of song that radio will either embrace or completely ignore, but nothing in the middle. It was a very big gamble.

yeah, they are mediabase numbers. Loba is currently #2 on the latin airplay chart.

Down to 29, I believe (and Whitney's song is down to 75). Madge will have higher sales, while Whitney will have higher airplay, so the two of these may debut pretty close to each other on the Hot 100.

WB should rush the video out ASAP, otherwise it's just gonna drop and drop (maybe it doesn't care, who knows).

When the day comes that M flops like Janet, I'll be ashamed that she's 2 cheap 4 promotion. But who knows? I'm praying 4 a miracle!

Down to #30 now...

I'm starting to think they (WBR) already knew that C would not do anything in the states. If you look at WBR track records they usually put a great deal of promo behind the first singles and as they release future singles their input gets smaller and smaller.... Maybe they decided that C would be a minor blip and decided instead to focus on promoting Revolver when the album is ready to drop. Maybe they thought C would be the Hot AC/Dance song and Revolver would be the one serviced to TOP 40 and Rhythmic...

C's only hope now is 1: airplay gains each day until it is picked up on more stations (not gonna happen), 2: the video is released and the song is given exposure on fuse, MTV and VH-1, and 3: WBR starts the promo for the album and releases the remixes.

On a side note, it will be interesting to see the actual sales fo celebration b/c IMO i think it is truly only the hardcore fans buying the song.
