madonnasuperfan01 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 One of her best videos ever, so artistic and beautiful The Ray of Light era sure was amazing.
peter Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 And now, seriously.... Was Madonna on the top of the dilusional game when she thought she could play a japanese woman in a film? Well ... wasn't there controversy that a Chinese woman was cast to play a role instead of a Japanese woman? I mean ... a Caucasian should have just as much of a chance as an Asian in that case. It was a long shot, of course... Just saying the casting was controversial ultimately. Of course, it would have been MORE controversial for Madonna to be cast as Hatsumomo, but ... whatever. I never actually saw the film or read the book, so what do I know? I just love the NRM video. I remember it premiered on Valentine's Day weekend, and the VH1 vj said that's when Madonna wanted it to be introduced "for its message of universal love." And then nearly three months later, the maxi-single CD was released in record stores. It was never gonna be a top 10 hit (being a fourth/fifth single) but ... come on. WB totally botched that release, with the physical product delivered well after airplay "peaked."
Ares1987 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I love this video. I think it is so underrated.
HolidayGuy Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 MTV had it on its "When Bad Videos Happen to Good Artists" countdown- probably cause it couldn't make heads or tails out of it.
scottyenzed Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 In the days before the internet I remember seeing this on television and I was blown away, Madonna like I'd never seen her before.
Guest Not4Pussies Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I actually remember hearing the club 69 mix on the radio.
cruncher9123 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I think the choreo is reminiscent of Butoh - a style of dance originating from Japan.
TRVC Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I think the choreo is reminiscent of Butoh - a style of dance originating from Japan. fucking terrifying. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night and THIS is doing that dance in the middle of your dark bedroom
Kilt Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 i never could get into liking this video. still can't. p.s.: the water filled plastic bags truly disturb me mentally
jonski43 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 The best song and video from that album. Yes,superior to ray of light! And the future mix is awesome!
Guest Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 i never could get into liking this video. still can't. p.s.: the water filled plastic bags truly disturb me mentally You pussy. You can see from my av that I'm a die hard NRM fan. It's gorgeous in every way possible.
Shane Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Anyone remember the online fan arguments over whether NRM or TPOG should be the third single? Love this video, and I remember the song was played somewhat regularly on my local pop station.
runa Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 i never could get into liking this video. still can't. p.s.: the water filled plastic bags truly disturb me mentally you should be banned to be quite honest.
jacket Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 I think the choreo is reminiscent of Butoh - a style of dance originating from Japan. Wow, thanks for posting that. Very eerie. fucking terrifying. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night and THIS is doing that dance in the middle of your dark bedroom you should be banned to be quite honest.
Guest eroticerotic Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I think the choreo is reminiscent of Butoh - a style of dance originating from Japan. this is gorgeous! i love the human body in motion
Guest Not4Pussies Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Uhm there's butoh dancing in Dwt, geisha section
peter Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted this in the artwork thread because the Picasso painting is so prominently displayed, but I thought I'd post it in here, too, in case anyone's not seen the behind-the-scenes video:
pasqual Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 i adore video and i adore song and i adore single... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkT0BNCsLsY
Andra Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I'm not a HUGE fan of the video, but the song..I love it so much. It's my favourite on the album right there along with Frozen. It means so much to me.

Did he travel through time and space and paint her with the black hair and red outfit?
promise to try Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 This is the most "typical madonna song" from ROL,I liked it when the album appeared, but I think it's an average song, nothing impressive.the video is weird, but she looks good, especially in the final part
pasqual Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 i dont see anything weird in this video...nothing except beauty song have good dance vibe, very good but simple lyrics, nice message...madonna looks stunning....black kimono or redone....white japan people with water pillows put some contemporary art elements....coreography is good...not typical...what else? oh yes...after frozen video that was great, ray of light that was cool, drowned world that was also cool, NRM won the game...my favorite
Guest Ivy Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Should have been third single ( excluding drowned world semi release? ) would have been the perfect trifecta, instead of being spoiled with the average POG!
dollhouse Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 POG actually made ROL resurrect in Christmas 2008. It sold extra 2-4 million thanks to POG.
