XXL
Suzanne Vega is promoting her new album Tales from the Realm of the Queen of Pentacles and she mentioned Madonna as well in a couple of interviews for the Italian press. Notably La Repubblica's weekly magazine supplement D and music site Rockol.it http://www.rockol.it/news-570807/suzanne-vega-nuovo-album-intervista In 1987 the music scene was very different from what it is today. People like Miley, Rihanna get all the attention. What do you think of this hypersexualisation, of this pornification of pop music? I think it's just business as usual. It is not very different from what Madonna was doing at the time. I think Lady Gaga is different, a bit more intellectual and with more artistic ambitions. Some of these girls are also funny at times, but fundamentally I follow my own route. I am definitely more interested in songstresses such as Laura Marling: I've recently listened to her latest record from start to finish, it's not easy to listen to it but it is a very meditated type of music, poetically and musically interesting and she's got a nice voice. I also like Lana Del Ray, she's very intriguing. She's playing a character, true, at least not a banal one. It's not about mere sexual imagery but also about story-telling. Taylor Swift is another story-teller with a nice personality. The only substantial difference from the 80s is that there are more women on the music scene. MerGirl
I think Lady Gaga is different, a bit more intellectual and with more artistic ambitions. Really now? Because it's pretty obvious when she opens her mouth that she is far from being intellectual. Her so called knowledge about art is shallow at best, and most often inaccurate. Jazzy Jan
I liked her songs Luka and Marlene on the wall from years ago, but she is yet another female singer who tries to downplay Madonna while praising people who are not fit to tie Madonna's shoelaces. I am sure it is a form of jealousy. I mean seriously, praising Gaga, Lana and Taylor Swift while dismissing Madonna.
Mattress
I think Lady Gaga is different, a bit more intellectual and with more artistic ambitions. What an asinine assertion. And I love some of Suzanne's nineties records.

XXL
Suzanne Vega, Susan Sarandon & Tim Robbins, Debbie Harry, Naomi Campbell & Steven Meisel, Lauren Hutton attending TOD premiere in NY in 1991. Suzanne Vega at 02:25 Suzanne, what do you think it's great about Madonna? Ha, that's assuming a lot, I think she's great at self-promotion, basically"
Samo
Did she diss Madonna? I don't think she did she basically said that Madonna was selling sex in 198 and female artists are still doing it now. But Gaga is different from the CURRENT female artists selling sex like Rihanna or Miley. No shade to Madonna
Raf
She never really liked her to begin with, why would she change now... She wasn't touched by the power of Madonna. Her loss.
