Dindi Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Hopefully, this album can manage to hang on for another 5 weeks (unlikely) and match STR's total weeks.
thebigham Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 ^I don't know. 42 albums debuted on the BB200 this week and it still managed to hold on. The tour is over next week so she might only have 2 more weeks on the BB200.
HolidayGuy Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I'm impressed that it's held on this long, anda 30th week will be sweet (a drop of 29 spots is all it would need). It dropped 15 places this week, and that was 31debuts/re-entries above it. Possible... And, yes, gt, always.

HolidayGuy Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Wow, ok, I'm officially impressed- another sales gain?!? Craziness. I see a lot of albums had gains on the chart, but still...
Ciccone's Cheeks Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 11/29 charts: 171 MADONNA HARD CANDY 4,144 +11% 3,721 673,475 (Gold) at the fact it gained that much, WILL pass AL total sales #s NEXT week, may very well exceed 700k, and is "this" close to spending 30 damn weeks on the BB 200 (easily beating Mimi)!
HolidayGuy Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Yes, but Mimi's album has scanned 500K+ more than Madge's. Which, considering the radio time the album got, isn't all that impressive, I guess. WIth 6 weeks left for the sales year, if the album sells an average of 3K per week, that puts it at 691,000 and change, to give an idea. With the tour lasting in the USA through Thanksgiving week, that will be good for it (not that it's going to hang onto the chart that week, mind you).
notsomuch Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Yes, but Mimi pushed her album more than anyone this year. There was nothing memorable on that record and it's been quickly forgotten about. Hard Candy, sold well consider that very few albums sell much these days and it stuck around for awhile without much to promote it.

Dindi Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Oooh, COADF did quite well on week 29. Anybody remember what boosted sales?

lemi Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Sweet, breaking the 4k level. This album does have legs, slim and shaky but nevertheless legs.

(S&S Tour concludes North American run 11/26, the fourth day of this tracking week) - 31st week That's quite impressive an 11% gain. You can CLEARLY see that S&S Tour has had much more of an impact than Confessions Tour. Can't believe all of those debuts and HC is still in the mix approaching 30 freaking weeks!! Good job Madge. Just shows promotion or not you are STILL the Queen.
Matt Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 The numbers this week are really impressive. I hope HC can profit from the Holiday sales in the next two chart weeks. Never thought she would break the 4k barrier in any other week than the TG week.
Guest jamesshot Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I am interested to see how Houston impacts her sales. She has had very little radio here in years. She hasn't played here in 18 years. She had a sold out, generally happy crowd of around 45,000. Also, the Houston show happened close to the holiday week. Add Detroit, Philly, AC and Atlanta(?), could we see a bigger gain next week and the week after?
Matt Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I re-release with one unreleased song a few unreleased remixes and some DVD bonuses would have helped for the holidays. Anyway, I'm really happy with the numbers, but it makes me think what could have been...
Guest harbors Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 11/29 charts: 171 MADONNA HARD CANDY 4,144 +11% 3,721 673,475 (Gold) OMFG! I just couldnt believe it. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Guest Joey's Hung Up On Madonna Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I read that albums released in April have the biggest success, is that true HolidayGuy? Hard Candy could have sold more if Madonna had promoted it, but let's not forget the state of the music industry. No one's really selling as well as they should. Also, people are more likely to buy the single than the album now. But despite these facotrs against Madonna I'd say this album has done sort of well. It has impressive survival.
Guest Danny86 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 11/29 charts: 171 MADONNA HARD CANDY 4,144 +11% 3,721 673,475 (Gold) That's amazing! The Denver & Houston shows certainly made an impact! And I guess it passed the total of American Life sometime this week.
Guest moboy Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Houston took place on the last day of tracking, so this current 11% gain was from any left over residue from Vegas and the 2 Denver shows. I would think next week she will see another great increase, from Houston, Detroit, Philly and just a little from Atlantic City. That would be week 30. Then for week 31, we have Atlanta and Miami and the infamous, Black Friday, not that Black Friday will help.
HolidayGuy Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Joey, I don't know about albums released in April being the most successful- in terms of what? Albums released in the 4th quarter benefit more from the higher sales weeks (since they're fresher- unless it's an album that continually sold well through the year).
doctorjosh Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 ooh. I'm very pleased with this week's results. See, HG, My finger crossing worked! It will be very nice to see HC pass 680k whilst still on the chart.
Guest Bad Robot Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Can someone refresh my memory about AL's soundscan total? I'm surprised there isn't a pinned soundscan thread... I vaguely recall something like 670k (667k?) so it seems HC has finally surpassed it... Interesting to see if this ever gets a platinum cert.

I thought HolidayGuy posted that as of last week that American Life was at 674,125. That means Hard Candy would need 1 more week to pass it. I agree with the others in here that 700,000+ seems likely by the time the holidays are over, but I think platinum certification typically comes around 800k (on Soundscan). Which is probably a long ways off for this album. Maybe we'll get lucky though.
Guest hotstickyandsweet Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Gonna pretty much guarantee at least a 10 to 15% SPIKE FROM THE Houston, Detroit, Philly and AC shows. Then again the next week with Atlanta and Miami, and the great thing about the Miami show which I am attending is that Black Friday will indeed have a positive impact on HC sales because of how fresh on everyone's minds the shows are. Watch peeps 700,000 is in the bag before it drops off the BB 200 like I said again, a miracle like MA becoming a decent hit or something can keep it chugging through the 1st quarter of next year. Anything is possible right? Really now, how many thought the album would be where it's at currently with NO PROMOTION?
