Can we officially say that Madonna writes the best bridges ever?

whats the original version?!!!

This is from wikipedia

In 1983, Curtis Hudson and Lisa Stevens of the group Pure Energy had written the song "Holiday", which Madonna recorded and released as the third single from her self-titled debut album.[3] After the single's commercial success, Hudson wrote a song sounding like "Holiday", in case Warner, Madonna's record company, wanted to release a similar song to it.[4] He named it "Spotlight" and offered it to Madonna, who recorded the song for her 1986 album True Blue.[1] However, Madonna didn't include it in the album because she felt that it was similar in composition and structure to "Holiday".[1]

When Madonna decided to create You Can Dance, she and Stephen Bray reworked the demo composed by Hudson[4] and Madonna asked Shep Pettibone, who had remixed her songs from True Blue, to remix "Spotlight" and included it on the album.[1]John "Jellybean" Benitez, who had recorded the original demo during the True Blue sessions, assisted Pettibone in remixing the song

I think Stephan Bray confirmed in an interview once there was an original, un-remixed version of spotlight recorded for True Blue which didn't make the album cut.

Love this:

Don't judge a man 'til you've been standin' in his shoes

You know that we're all so quick to look away
'Cause it's the easy thing to do
You know that what I say is true

It's fun also to sing this over the spoken words in "Rain" :

My conscience is clear I know right from wrong

That's a lie I know nothing except that you're gone
There's more to learn from the look in your eyes
Than a trip round this world, the stars in the sky

Gosh I want to believe all that but Wikipedia is 99.99% wrong. So I hope this is the exception!!!

Maybe someone just copied and pasted.

Maybe we were meant to be together
Even though we never met before
We got to move before the sun is rising
And you'll be walking slowly out the door
Out the door

[spoken]

You're confusing me
'Cause I don't know if you want me
But I know that I want you
And it's not gonna be ashamed of
What are you gonna do?

Her spoken vocals and the melancholy in the melody kill me everytime. :dramatic:

A personal favorite:

Guess I'm waiting for my place in your sun,

Wish I had the chance to know you and it wasn't stormy weather.

What a shame, who's to blame?

(beautiful instrumental part)

tbh I love the original bridge from GMAYL. That combined with the original chants by M make it way more aggressive and less frivolous. I like GMAYL as a battle cry (which makes both the song and the tone of MDNA clearer), rather than a cheerleading (which does feel a little *shoot me* desperate)

I won't be so broken hearted
You were not the one for me
History has made me see
Nothings wrong, I'm OK
It's coming after anyway
I'm moving on
No regrets and I'm not sorry :dramatic:

I'm alright. Don't be sorry but it's true.

When i'm gone you'll realize

I was the best thing that happened to you

Yay, I was waiting for someone to post this!

It's probably even more so the music which makes this bridge so great, I just love how it sounds with the higher-pitched instrumentation, it's hard to describe it, but for whatever reason I just love it and always have since the first time I listened to it!

Wouldn't "Beauty's where you find it..." be a third verse? I view the "rap" more as a bridge. And for CAC, someone mentioned "So we can kee..." but it is "I hope you find what you're..." that is the bridge as someone mentioned). Just keeping it technically accurate. :)

LTT's is a doozy. Interestingly, two of her greatest tracks- LAP and ROL- don't really have fresh bridges. LAP's is what we first hear her sing in the song.

M has had some great ones, that is true.

This one:

I see the look in your eyes

I know you're hurting inside

Let me try

To make you love me again

I'll say that I knew you when

You were mine

You were mine

"Beauty's where you find it" is the bridge of Vogue. (The vocal melody and music shifts completely from the previous verses.) And it is quite possibly the best one she's ever written IMO.

But another one that's blasphemously overlooked in this thread:

And when you gone, he might regret it.

Think about the love he once had

Try to carry on, but he just won't get it.

He'll back on his knees to Express Himself.

Yes! Why on earth didn't she release this and put it on true blue. I was listening to this last night.

If I ran away, I'd never have the strength

To go very far

How would they hear the beating of my heart

Will it grow cold

The secret that I hide, will I grow old

How will they hear

When will they learn

How will they know

:drama:

There needs to be more love for her post-2000 bridges!

I need this exchange

I don't care if you think that I'm strange

Something happens to me when I hear your voice

Something happens to me and I have no choice

I need to hear your name

Everything feels so strange

I'm willing to take this chance

I need to dance!

:wow: :wow: :wow:

I tried to be a good girl

I tried to be your wife

Diminished myself and swallowed my life

I tried to become all

That you expect of me

And if it was a failure

I don't give a...

Hail Mary, full of grace

Get down on your knees and pray

Jesus Christ, hanging on the cross

Died for our sins, it's such a loss

Saint Christopher, find my way

I'll be coming home one day

Saint Sebastian, don't you cry

Let those poison arrows fly

Saint Anthony, lost and found

Thomas Aquinas, stand your ground

All those saints and holy men

Catch me before I sin again

:dramatic: :dramatic: :dramatic:

I'm falling

I'm falling

I'm falling free
