Carta
That's fanbase only so it really does prove just how much the UK is OVER Madonna. So you're suggesting that Madonna's fan base should be large enough to guarantee her a #1 single? I guess that's an admission of your non-fandom, since you have declared very loudly that you will not be buying this single (or pretty much anything else she releases these days) I would bet anything that Oasis has more than just 8 000 UK fans and Madonna certainly has more than 5000. Well over 300k have bought HC.
HolidayGuy
Didn't GI2M peak in the top 10 airplay (or, right outside of it)? In any event, it's unlikely that the UK is over Madge- if it were, 4M wouldn't have been as successful as it was. Unlike the USA, the Timbas participation likely had less to do with its large success compared to the USA. Sure, MA is a chart disappointment, but I'm sure the next *new* Madge single will score pretty well in the UK digital realm.

Well over 300k have bought HC. madonna's fanbase has always been large enough to secure a top20 placing for singles that were doomed way before their release- just take a look at some of her weakest singles to date. one more chance, human nature, oh father, love profusion, drowned world-grand song but still a poor choice of a single-all debuted high because of the fanbase and experienced major second week drops, meaning they hadn't connected to the public at all. miles aways also proved to be a song nobody cares about, the major difference is that not even the fanbase are now willing to back it, hence the shockingly low position. instead of blaming the fans that didn't buy it, blame madonna's attitude for that matter. if a considerable portion of the uk fans wanted to support this single, or even the last one, then chart positions would have been way different, as give it 2 me could have easily scrapped the top5 and miles away should have a chance in peaking within the top20. the truth is, 4 minutes may have been a big crossover hit, but the song itself, tha album and more importantly her lame attitude alienated too many of the british fans-i won't even mention the impact of the wembley disaster, that was the final nail in the coffin. even in a chart climate where digital sales matter way more than physical sales, she should have had a lead compared to other acts. look at oasis, they're irrelevant in these days, yet they manage one top10 after the other. some years ago they'd be scoring top3 hits yet with the digital age they've succumbed to top10 placings, which is not bad. what defines a bad situation is for the biggest chart act of the past 25 years struggling to make the top40. by the way, i don't comprehend people accusing warners over the lack of a video. surely it's not the company's executives that should have appeared on the video rather than the artist herself. she obviously didn't give a toss about it cause she was too busy touring, but then touring has never stopped countless other acts from filming a video for their latest single which, even more importantly, is supposed to promote its parent album during the all mighty holiday season. in other words, the -remaining- fans have woken up. if she does not care, then why should they do so? No matter how many times you're gonna repeat that, the chart does not work like that anymore. Just because those singles went to top 20, they weren't any bigger than "Miles Away". Fanbases aren't in charge on the charts anymore, just accept that. Funny how everyone can cry on what a tragic position "MA" got in the UK, but already forgot that because of the chance of the chart climate, she got her longest running top 10 hit and one of her longest running #1s with "4 Minutes" just earlier this year... Braby
4 Minutes is Madonna's second-biggest-selling single this decade... When the history books are written, the 00s will be known as the decade of the novelty song and the reality act. Look at that pitiful Top Ten... But also, when all is said and done, US acts have no real claim over major sales in this country. The majority of the big sellers are all British-born.
