RyanAnth4 Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 (edited) All a bit suspect imo but hey it is what it is . The reason I find it strange that he is 16k ahead is the whole day of Friday and into Saturday she was no.1 and obviously that’s not taken into consideration that she may have sold at least 1 phsysical single copy . ??!! Anyway acceptance is key , sad though considering that would have given her the tie with Elvis for most no.1 albums . I honestly never knew Bruce Springsteen was so popular . Course I forgot how “unpopular “ she is with the Brits . They really do not like her considering the Eurovision 2 (GN show) hate towards her . Edited June 17, 2019 by RyanAnth4

Rebel Saviour Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Plus the article talks about combined sales. What do they exactly mean? I thought Bruce had just one version out.
Guest dcbyebyebaby Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 They probably thought ESC performance would sell the album and be enough. Madonna being stubborn ruined that but anyway it is what is.

stevo208 Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Bruce is on 36k sales and M on 20k. Nearest competitor is Bastille at #3 with 11k sales. She should hold that #2 position by Friday.

santiago Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Don't let the same happen in the US!! BUY AND STREAM!!!
Nikki Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 btw, surprised Bastille is not doing good anyway, this is a warning to the US fans! don't get lazy!
Intervention_78 Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Wow! I'm surprised. He did that without any promotion or performances.

Silverfox Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Father's Day is a huge factor. People never know what to buy their dads so a Bruce album will have been the perfect choice. Although to be honest, I'm surprised he's ahead by so much. Regardless, sales of 20k are good for the UK. Frustrating that most other weeks she'd be on course for #1. Fingers crossed for #1 in US.
insilico Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 It would be great if she can get back at him in the US. Well, at least she is outselling Bastille.
frzndrwnwrld Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Madonna needs a duet with Bruce Springsteen to increase her album sales................ that was a joke by the way.
Guest material_boy Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Bruce's whole fanbase fits into a single demographic (white, male, Baby Boomers), and that sort of demographic homogeny has been true since he first hit the big time. It's easy to hold a fanbase like that together over the years and get them to keep buying whatever shit you turn out. (See also: U2, the Rolling Stones, and many other big rock acts.) M doesn't have a fanbase like that. It's more like she has a coalition of fans who've come to her at different stages of her career, and come to expect different things from her as a result. The 80s post-disco pop princess with the punk attitude, the living legend blond bombshell pop queen, the house queen with the fuck-authority and fuck-your-expectations S&M dominatrix look and attitude, the R&B crooner, the techno spiritualist mother of the year, etc. etc. Different eras of her career have appealed to appealed to different genders, races, and generations. It's really difficult to sustain that over time, and part of what makes her sustained megastardom so remarkable.

Rebel Saviour Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Madonna is headed to number 1 in Canada. Here's the midweek (Bruce is 3) https://exclaim.ca/charts/albums
Nikki Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 but, those sales are quite good? bruce has his first album in years (the previous one from years ago was a cover album), he has 11 n1s in the UK (so a big fanbase), and it's 'fathers day' week.. by the way.. madonna's rebel heart midweeks had 13k sales more than Sam Smith and he still outsold her because there was big promo for him again tied in with mothers day. that means, not only can one good performance change things.. it also means US fans need to watch out because M's lead could change

I expect that worldwide Madonna will comfortably outsell Bruce. It just happened that Bruce's album is very close to what UK is into nowadays, mellow, soft rock and easy listening. If he released a proper rock album he wouldn't do as good.
BokuNo Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 So Jonas Bothers are debuting with 414k units instead of in the 300s like predicted? I haven’t tracked their activity. Is an 80% drop likely for them? That’ll keep Madame X at a safe distance from them

swimtoshore Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 HITS Daily has listed their sales predictions for M and Bruce in the US. M’s sales are the same as previously reported, while Bruce’s are a little higher than before but still way below M. Note that the #1 they mention M is looking at is for sales only, not SPS. Jonas Brothers is still a big threat to hold #1 on SPS. Should be a full top 20 sales estimate from them on Wed or Thurs. They are reporting the same 16k sales gap between Bruce and M in the UK btw.... US All indicators point to a #1 debut for Madonna on this week's HITS Top50. With a ticket bundle and D2C offerings fueling half of the opening total, expect Madame X to give Madge her first #1 since 2012's MDNA. (UPDATED) Early reads: Madonna (Live Nation/Maverick/Interscope) 90-100k total activity, 85-95k albumBruce Springsteen (Columbia) 55-60k, 50-55k UK Bruce Springsteen currently heads the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart with Western Stars (Columbia) sitting 16k combined sales ahead of Madonna at the halfway stage. Over on singles, new entries from Little Mix and Taylor Swift shake up the Top 5. Should Springsteen hold onto his lead by Friday, Western Stars will be his 11th #1 in the U.K. Madonna sits behind at #2 with Madame X (Polydor), which looks set to reach the same peak its predecessor, Rebel Heart, achieved in 2015. British band Bastille start at #3 with their third album, Doom Days (Virgin EMI), while a 40th anniversary reissue of Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures (Rhino) is also new at #5.
