Guest whatatramp
Hahahahsg yup! I can't wait! Have you guys seen that creature that they've replaced Tim Westwood for. I never thought I'd say this but even Tim isn't that lame. I love Tim though. He's always shown respect for Madonna despite being a hip hop DJ. When 4 minutes came out he always opened his show with it. And when he got to pimp her ride for the sorry video Who are you talking about? Tim was a real fan of hip hop despite being a bit cringe

Tim is a hip hop legend! They've replaced him with this fat boy. So Tim left r1 and joined Choice.

karbatal
In this day and age, who even listens to the radio?! Do they also watch VHS tapes on their black and white TV? Are you kidding? I don't know in your country, but radio stations are on in shops, cars... if a song is a hit you hear it everywhere. Radio stations are turning more and more into late 20s and 30s people, i don't know what that R1 are thinking about. In Spain, most of radio stations are aimed to that public, who is the one who is not into ipods and isolation, but turn on the radio in their business or at home. R1 will have changes pretty soon, i expect.
Guest Rachelle of London
I think what angers a lot of Brits about R1s treatment of Madonna is that she's always been a part of radio here. Isn't she the most played artist on British radio? They even used to play her concerts on radio. For R1 to make comments like this about Madonna and others just shows how disgusting they are. Guest Xanthium
US radio is crap though. I would understand you guys not listening. I'm an avid talk radio listener, but sometimes I love tuning into Radio 2. The other night they were playing a Madonna megamix. It was epic. US radio is a fucking joke. It's abysmal. Satelite and internet radio is popular here and is good. But regular radio here is shit on toast.

Nikki
didn't madonna do interviews with jo whiley from radio one or am i mixing things up? i always thought that was a pretty serious & good radio station just by the sound of jo's interviews with madonna. no cheesy commercials in between etc just a long interview. Does anyone even know his name? firing someone because he or she is too old.. i know it's the radio/music and entertainment business which is more superficial.. but in theory he could fight it and probably win. one is not allowed to specifically not hire or fire people because of their age, sex, etc

jonski43
Where did this comment cone from? They haven't played Madonna since Celebration. To be fair to them, the BBC Trust said that Radio 1 needed to target a younger demographic and so they've made a concerted effort to target that group. However, Radio 1 have been ditching artists for getting old for years. Phil Collins and Status Quo both complained that they were dropped so it's not personal to Madonna. It's just part of their remit. They know they're going to lose listeners but it's shout restructuring the radio stations to reflect their audiences. But yes, it's become a really dull channel and Greg James and Nick Grimshaw are so bland . Radio 2 is far more interesting and their playlists far broader. madonnasuperfan01
When will radios FINALLY understand that the general public don't give a fuck about the artist's age? I can tell you that if a 60 year old man or woman released a song that would be played all the time on radios, it will be a hit for sure. It's radios who seem to think that people don't want to listen to older musicians for some weird reason. Hell Cher was over 50 when she released Believe and we all know how huge it was. Age has NOTHING to do with success or not, it's only a matter of exposure. That's why this ageism is making me so angry, it just doesn't make ANY sense. Cal1974
Radio 1 has lost it. It is too focused on the the age of their audience rather than on playing good music. Its all about Radio 2 now, although to be honest I mostly listen to Radio 4. I always find it starve that Radio 1 are so hung up on the age of the artists they play, but fail to see the irony of a few of their presenters being much older than their target demographic. Nessie
It's understandable that Madonna would not get on the playlist, their demographic is the 15-25 age group, and lends face it, most kids that age do not want to listen to Madonna. Radio 1 is a great station, and I still listen to some of their specialist shows (I'm in my late 30s). Unfortunately Madonna is now seen as a Radio 2 artist, which is great for her as it's a massive station, bad for us as the rest of their playlists are dreadful. If only she would get played on 6 music.... kids at age 25?
