lasky Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 (edited) Let's get this party started, as Madonna would say, with this article that appears in The Quietus, "Lucky Star: Madonna's Debut Album, 30 Years On": http://thequietus.com/articles/12514-madonna-debut-album-review Edited June 14, 2013 by HolidayGuy The 30th Anniversary thread
XXL Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 http://thequietus.co...ut-album-review Amazing read thank you
Monkey Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 still my favorite album, the sound is still very relevant today, I was yesterday at a party for the keith haring exhibition at the museum of modern art here in Paris, the dj played 2 or 3 tracks from early madonna, one was lucky star, and the crowd went wild. This album is pure class & straight from a golden period, the early 80s
DIRTY PIG Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 parts of that article are literally word for word copied from that (amazing) Channel 4 documentary Madonna : Naked Ambition its on youtube, watch that.
HolidayGuy Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Nice read (especially when it talks about the album). 30 years next month... wow. let's make this the Anniversary thread.
Glindathegood Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 It was a nice read up until the end. Why do these article always have to end with some negative comment about her current work? It's like they compliment but it's begrudging, the last impression always has to be something negative. The article seems pretty dismissive of all her later work after the first album. I understand the first album is important to a lot of people, but for me it's not my favorite. It's a little too simplistic and one dimensional for me. It's kind of sexist and rude how they compare her to Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. The implication is that if you work hard and are ambitious and you're female that's a bad thing. I don't think it's fair to say there's no inspiration in her current work. I guess this writer never saw the MDNA tour.
Guest Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Loved it. Thanks for posting. I regularly read The Quietus.
horn Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 It's a classic solid album and not a single boring song. Short and sweet.
Guest del1te Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 A little tribute I made with a fellow DJ... http://www.mix.dj/mixes/4750964/del1teSorry_Madonna_we_love_you
lasky Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 ^ I have the album but with a different cover though... hehe...
christopherm Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I LOVE THIS ALBUM! I had to hunt down the old 8-track version cd Holiday, celebrate!
HolidayGuy Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Who would have thought, at the time, that this album would produce such enduring tracks? Especially "Holiday," which is such a brilliant track for the masses. Keep the "celebration" going all of this month.
Guest gang bang Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I still don't actually own this album shame on you , its not a great album , but so classic
Roland Barthes Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 July 27th will mark the 30th anniversary of Madonna's first album. Let's celebrate ! Here's the full album featuring remastering works by our dear Bellenger http://vimeo.com/70274136
CMoody Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I turned 30 just ahead of it on July 22. Happy bday "Madonna" album!
Larkspur Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 My birthday present! I'm convinced Madonna knew! Lol
Pressston Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 1982, One of the best pop album ever. 7 tracks out of 8 single-worthy. A collection of hits, could be a best-of. Extremely rare point The whole album sounds as fresh 30 years after its release. It could be release today. Timeless tracks. Absolutely extremely rare point. A new singer that has absolutely the whole package ; Beauty, real iconic name, charisma, voice, moves, brain, Cinderella real story and brand new style. Really absolutely extremely rare. 30 years after she's the only 80's survivor, with the top grossing tour of 2012. Everything is logical. Nothing to add.
madonnasuperfan01 Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Awesome album, one of the best debut albums i've ever heard. Totally filler-free.
Kurt420 Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 It doesn't get any better than this. The blueprint for what pop music would become.
Dannylex Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 The album that started it all, I'm not very found of '80s music, but this album is life for me, absolutely filler free.
ULIZOS Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Awesome album, one of the best debut albums i've ever heard. Totally filler-free. THIS! It's perfect!
Dannylex Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I find that "(the first album)" a little unnecessary at this point.
Guest bluejean Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I remember for years I didn't know the original cover/title, I just thought The First Album title and cover was it. How awful. And I remember as I youngster when I saw the original cover thinking that The First Album cover was better. Gosh kids are so stupid Thank God I grew up and realised the truth
qaz Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Omg.. 30 years old...It is incredible. I will listen to the first album this saturday!
