Guest ursaminorjim
RE BStranger- it's a fun song. I enjoy it- in regards to the lifting from another song- there's only so much you can do with 60s'-sounding psychadelia. Actually, if we want to go back even further, couldn't we say that tat Love song ripped a little from The Doors' "Light My Fire"? (that is, if it came after the Doors- not sure off-hand). Actually, the Doors ripped off Love pretty heavily, and openly. Love were the band that EVERYONE in the L.A. psych scene wanted to be at that time. At least it didn't sound like everything else on the radio. Agree one thousand percent. However, I prefer the stronger song done in a familiar style over the weaker one done in a less familiar style. And what's with people referring to the vocalist for the "Revolver" demo as a "bitch?" Is that necessary?
afrolito
There is nothing half assed about Beautiful stranger. It's pop perfection. Revolver on the other hand is shit from start to finish. Lyrically alone it's embarrassing.
Guest ursaminorjim
There is nothing half assed about Beautiful stranger. It's pop perfection. It's like the steak that Jeff Goldblum sent through the teleporter in The Fly. All the components of the real thing are there, but there's no soul to glue it together. They didn't know know to make the flesh crazy, so it never rises above pastiche. Now if they had just gone ahead and done a full-on cover of "She comes in colours?" That would've been something... Anyway, getting back on topic - I think she and Lil Wayne are a great match. There's a lot in common, actually. They've both morphed into an absolutely distinct persona at various points in their careers, and then decided to veer off and follow their own muses. They're both parents (and to get specific - they both have two "natural" children, and from another angle, they both have two black children). THey've both garnered massive sales and critical respect. And they're both terrible guitarists.
Guest Coked Up Baby Boy
See, I didn't find it sexy in the least. And in addition to the half-assed construction, the final sound was unfinished to me. It sounded like there were big gaping holes in the sound, like the mixing desk got screwed up on the final pass. Also...well, it was for an Austin Powers movie. And there are people who will laugh at anything a 51-year-old woman sings that isn't jazz, folk or standards. Oh well - their loss! Now you hate on Austin Powers You're the worst Ursa! YOU HEAR ME-UH!!!!!
Guest ursaminorjim
Hey, the first Austin Powers film was adorable. The others...erm... Well, the others help answer the question "How many times does Mike Myers make the same fart jokes in his films?" (493, and counting)
Pabl0114
So lemme get this straight... someone wrote the song Revolver, got some unknown bitch to sing it, sent it to Madonna to record it with her own vocals - and now Lil Wayne is going to be in rapping in it and they will do a video together. L-A-M-E What a lazy and uninspired project. Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come in the future. MADONNANATION POST CIRCA 1984: So lemme get this straight...some unknown hall and oats wannabes write the song like a virgin, same unknown assholes sing it, sent it to Madonna to record it with her own vocals - and now one of those black guys from CHIC is producing it and she will do a video riding a gondola. HolidayGuy
Hmmmm- well, the Doors recorded "Light My Fire" in 1966 (releasing in 1967) and Love's album featuring "She Comes in Colors" was released in 1967. Anyhoo... Lil Wayne's album has received acclaim, but he kinda gives me a headache- he's the part I don't care for all that much in "Let it Rock" (which isn'ta GREAT song to begin with, anyhow). I know that the Chic dude is gonna force his disco sound on her. Just like he made Bowie "sell out" last year with that crap "Dance The Blues". Shame. She showed such promise with her first album and it's underground, raw NYC sound. She was really on to something! Now though? I guess she's lost the plot. She wants to do disco apparently and that has been dead for about 5 years. Better they scrap this whole album and start fresh with a new producer. I hear Madonna played in some bands a few years back. A bimbo like her is soooo gonna be overshadowed by Cyndi and Pat etc if she doesn't spruce up on her musicianship. She needs to pick the guitar and drumsticks back up and craft some REAL talent before it's too late. I say work with Neil Giraldo as his work on Pat Benatar's last album was EPIC. She already looks punky, why not sound punky?
ed-still
LOL, that pic is funny! Yeah, I'm a little disappointed that Revolver will be the second new track. I agree that lyrically it's hackneyed and just silly for a 50 year old woman to sing it. But that's just my opinion.

Kurt420
I just don't understand the arguments about what is "appropriate" for her to sing at her age. She's made a whole career out of being "inappropriate" in different ways. It wasn't appropriate to hear the word "virgin" in a pop song when she did it....doesn't seem like a big deal now. It wasn't appropriate for a female artist to dress and act the way she did in her videos.....now the "Madonna method" is the protocol for many female pop artists. It just freaks me out how many have this notion that once you hit 50 it's the "right way" to be more reserved, "age appropriate" (whatever that is) and singing a lyric as silly and innocent as "my sex is killa" makes people uncomfortable...not because of what you are saying but because of the age you are when you are saying it. Would anybody here have found objection to 35 year old Madonna singing "my sex is a killa. Do you wanna die happy?"

How many times am I gonna have the opportunity to post like it's 1984?? Besides, I'm tired of being "comedic" when it comes to the current sticky and sweet, cheektastic Madonna. GimmeSomeMo
I don't think people say its innapropriate for her age. At least I'm not. It's just so easy. Why not do something TRULY sticky & sweet like JML instead of recycling cliches? I like the demo I'm just talking about my reaction to some of her laughable antics in the past year. Ai Papi Si.
I think people have a problem with the Revolver lyrics because it sounds like backtracking. She used to write about her sexuality in such a mature way. Now she's signing about sex the way Britney would. It's not rocket science why people have a hard time finding a common thread between "Poor is the man who's pleasures depend on the permission of another" and "My sex is a killa, do you wanna die happy? I let it bang bang"

It's AWFUL no matter how you spin it. It is not cute, sexy, funny, or cool. Just pathetic.
Guest ursaminorjim
True, the lyrics are bad. But so are a lot of her own lyrics (see also: most of the American Life album, half of Confessions On a Dance Floor, etc). I mean no-one goes to Madonna for lyrical insight (which is what makes it all the better when she delivers). The melody, however, is centered squarely in the pleasure zone. And the lyrics, dumb as they are, ride the beat perfectly. Again, though - who knows what the finished version will be like anyway? This is all speculation.
