I wouldn't be surprised it if only leaks when they start to press the CDs. Not sure if Madonna.com will want to give it away months before.

I wonder if they are watching these leaked tracklistings and seeing which ones we are most vocal about.

I reckon it MUST have

All her Usa number ones

Her top hits from major territories eg I'm from uk so her big sellers/top hits should be on

One song at least from every album/era

Finally on subject of Miles Away - where does it fit on her all time best selling Japanese hits?

I think "Miles Away" is actually her best selling download in Japan and has definitely outsold many of her biggest hits there physically - so I'd say it's her best selling single in Japan.

It won her several Japanese awards earlier this year too.

Fake. Look at the spine. Someone did a horrible cut job with the logo that they took from the front cover.

Will people ever learn???

You're right, but as for the track listing it's pretty tight. Each CD has 18 tracks which is plausible, but I suspect if they could fit 19 tracks on both, the inclusion of "Lucky Star" and "Open Your Heart" should be there. Those were two big hits for her, so it's just strange to think she would not include them as well.

^Why do people claim that Madonna's not a fan of American Pie?

Well I think people assume that if a song is excluded from a compilation or if it never gets performed on tour that Madonna hates it.

She said she hated Material Girl many times over, and yet she's performed it on tour in 2004 and you can be sure it will be on this collection.

Yeah, but AMERICAN PIE and MATERIAL GIRL are just two worlds apart regarding success. I think the fact she was apprehensive to even record it in the first place, speaks volumes to me why she doesn't include it on tour or future compilations. Also, MATERIAL GIRL is one of her signature songs. She can say she hates to perform it now, but there will always be a public outcry for that song before AMERICAN PIE. She knows that.

^Indeed, and last year she said she wasn't sure if she ever sang "Holiday" again, but now she's currently performing it on tour.

She only dismissed a small number of songs this decade, I think "TB", "CAC" and "Cherish" during request sections and "TUTBMP" in 2001.

It's a second-rate "Wonderland" :demonic:

Put it as a bonus track on the Japanese edition :asian:

Here's part of the Jo Whiley 2001 interview. Where Jo mentions "TUTBMP", Madonna supposedly said an "ugh" or something like that...

http://www.madonna-online.ch/m-online/inte...y-interview.htm

Jo: You've got of a lot of things going on at the moment, one of them is your best of 'GHV 2,' why that title?

Madonna: Because it's to the point. We went through catchy titles, funny titles and witty titles and things like that, but at the end of the day I thought it was really modern and succinct and to the point.

Jo: And how did you get through the process of deciding which tracks were on there?

Madonna: Listening to stuff over and over again. A lot of my old songs make me sick.

Jo: So hold on, which ones are not on there?

Madonna: I'm not telling you!

Jo: 'This Used to Be My Playground' that's not on there. 'Fever' is not on there...

Madonna: Oh, I like 'Fever' alright. But the thing is they had to have listening power for me. I had to be able to listen to them five times in a row and think this is really good, this is a well written song, it's really well produced. I can honestly say not all my songs have been, some are better than others, that's all there is to it. So the ones that I thought really stood the test of time, in terms of well written, well produced, well sung, those are the ones that made it.

Jo: 'American Pie' is not on there, what was the reason for that?

Madonna: The reason why is because I ended up putting it on my album, 'Music', at the end. It was sort of one of those things, a certain record company executive twisted my arm into doing, we won't name any names. My gut told me not to do it, and I did it and then I regretted it so just for that reason it didn't deserve to get on 'GHV2'.

Jo: You regretted doing the song?

Madonna: No not at all. But it didn't really belong on my album, but I did it and therefore it's being punished, it's not allowed on GHV2.

Jo: Why did you decide to put the album out anyway, was it a record company decision or was it 'I've reached that time in my life, I'll put another one greatest hits out?'

Madonna: It was really like a mark for the end of the year. It went part and parcel with the tour. The tour was pretty much a celebration of my last 3 records and what I've been doing since I did Evita.

Jo: And why did you not put another single on there or record a new single?

Madonna: Because it says greatest hits.

Jo: But it could have been a greatest hit.

Madonna: Well I'm gonna save that for my next record which I'm gonna start recording in January.

I don't think Miles Away should be included.

I do think it should be there if it's one of her best selling singles in japan .

We have to presume it's same tracks worldwide? In this case if it's her biggest hit in japan it needs to be on.

I wonder if some songs might not be on the cd but be on the DVD? Oh father was on the immaculate collection DVD but not cd so it has been done before.

"Bad Girl", "Bedtime Story" and any of the left out ROL singles came to mind, her "acclaimed" videos.

I don't see "True Blue" included on the DVD if it's not on the CD.

thanks!

Yes, thanks from me, too. I was curious about this, but hadn't had time to ask.

I guess we'd have to re-listen to the interview to be sure she reacted poorly to hearing "This Used to Be My Playground" mentioned.

I love TUTBMP. And it was a #1 in the U.S. if I'm not mistaken.

My feeling is that TUTBMP and "You'll See" and "I'll Remember" were on the STR compilation, so she favored ballads that weren't included there, or else she picked the biggest (i.e., "Take a Bow") for inclusion on GHV2. "Power of Good-bye," "Frozen," "Drowned World / Substitute for Love," "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" -- even WIFLFAG -- all got included. If you combine those with other GHV2 tracks that are somewhat mid-tempo ("Secret" and "Bedtime Story" come to mind) and then add TUTBMP, You'll See, and I'll Remember, it would have practically been another ballad collection.

All this is to say, I wouldn't read TOO much into her decision not to include TUTBMP, You'll See, and I'll Remember on the last GH outing. One of those three should definitely show up on CELEBRATION, if not two of them. Three might be pushing it, I suspect.
