HolidayGuy
Posted this in the Game Over thread: Blond Ambition raked in around $16 million for its North American trek (No. 12 in North Ameica for 1990; she did the least # of shows in the top 12)- shows just how much ticket prices (especially hers) have gone up since then. The total gross for Girlie Show was never released; some dates had info, but not all, so anything for that one would be a guesstimate. Inflation always should be kept in mind (in recent times, moreso for comparing Drowned World, re-Invention and Confessions tours), but, nonetheless, S&S by far exceeded the # of tickets sold for any of M's previous tours, I imagine. Dindi
For the business savvy, anybody know how much money LiveNation stands to make from this tour? You'd think they would have already earned back a hefty chunk of the report $120 million they paid Madonna.
Guest hot revolver
They earned approxiamately 10% of the gross.

You'd think they would have already earned back a hefty chunk of the report $120 million they paid Madonna. They didn't paid Madonna 120 million yeat. As far as I remember they paid like $ 40 millions in advance, and the rest would come later along with the next Albums and tours in money ans shares. So they practically got the 40 millions back if they actually get the 10% of the total gross. Or even more due to the Stciky & Sweet related merchadise sold in the concerts and the webpage. magom
BTW, I think Madonna will probably make the forbes list next year with some 40-45 millions.
HolidayGuy
Going back to accounting for inflation and # of tickets sold, U2 actually sold more tickets with its Vertigo Tour- 4.619 million and change. And The Police Reunion Tour did around 3.7 million. Just to keep it real. That doesn't detract from M's accomplishment, of course.
Guest groovyguy
YAY!! 1. Rolling Stones' (558 million USD) for the 2005-7 Bigger Bang tour with 144 shows. 2. MADONNA (408 million USD) for the 2008-9 Sticky and Sweet tour with 85 shows 3. U2's (389 million USD) for the 2005-6 Vertigo tour with 133 concerts. 4. The Police's (350 million USD) for their 151-concert 2007-8 reunion tour. 5. Rolling Stones' (320 million USD) gross for its 1994-5 The Voodoo Lounge Tour for 128 shows. 6. Rolling Stones' (312 million USD) gross from their 2002-3 Licks tour with over 121 shows. U2 will be hell-bent on toppling this... It was great hear KTU (today) talk about how this tour is the top selling ever by a solo artist.

Most of the merchandise profit would go to M. That is where artists make pretty much all their money on touring. Most artists can't swing a massive deal like M and wind up only getting a small cut of the ticket sales (if any), so they have to make up for it through the merchandise sales. Even now U2's tickets are not as expensive as M's and they upped their high end prices a lot from the Veritgo tour. Also, as always those "big bands" have to do a lot more shows to get into Madonna range with her relativly few in comparison.
whyme?
So how much of that $408 mill goes into Esther's pocket (roughly)? Artists usually get 1/3 of the gross. The rest covers costs, fees, etc etc. Rolling Stone once had a detailed article on the breakout $ of a rock concert.

Last fall, Billboard speculated that the S&S Tour's production cost could be up to 40% of its gross. That means Madonna probably got about 90% of $245 million = $220 million from the entire tour (2008-2009), and that doesn't include her cut from merchandising which could be as much as another $20 million or so.
