It won't - it's one show and all the buzz surrounding the first Cardiff date won't be repeated in the press again.

They will still talk about it in the London papers the next day & some of the casual fans might pick up the album after seeing the show.

In terms of chartrun, Give It 2 Me is now #1 for all Madonna's 2nd single from an album, overtaking Papa Don't Preach...

PDP was not a "proper" second single.

Live To Tell was released on March 26

PDP on June 11

the album True Blue on june 30

So PDP was perceived as a new song, while Material Girl, Causing a Commotion, Express Yourself, Deeper And Deeper, Take A Bow, Don't Cry For Me Argentina, Ray Of Light, Don't Tell Me, Sorry and Give It 2 Me was already "old songs".

The same for "American Life": technically it should be considered as a second single because of DAD...

Not to mention, here in Europe, "Music". It should be considered as second single, after the smash "American Pie"!

So this is what has kept GITM in the top 30 still? Airplay has fizzled out and I wondered what was making people buy it still. I have heard Radio 1 use it quite a lot insome trailers and background music.....its obvious they love the groove.

Well, chart runs are all based on timing and this single has the serendipity of being the only second single to:

1. Be released digitally first with a later-than-usual retail release.

2. Coincide with a world tour kick-off where it is prominently featured as the show's finale.

3. Be featured on a top-rated UK television show in the midst of its run (Big Brother UK).

'Give It 2 Me' is played in a lot of bars and clubs when I go out and always gets a great reaction - since airplay fizzled out a while back I think this and word of mouth has done a lot to give it a long chart run. And its use in quite a few tv shows of course.

^ I can't believe this tour has done almost nothing for the album's sales. I really thought Hard Candy would go AT LEAST 2x platinum in the UK. At this rate, it will sell on par with American Life.

Hmmm I see that as being an overly optimistic view at this point...American Life sold 330k in the UK, Hard Candy is less than 285k if im not mistaken, thats 45k, that really is quite an ask.

Nah, I think with its passage through the holiday season - even on the lower reaches of the chart - Hard Candy will be close to the American Life total. Especially if they discount it. If you add a "Miles Away" release on top of that, it could be more.

Plus, in the U.K., American Life was the No. 52 selling LP of the year and sold 310,000 copies in 2003 alone. The 330,000 number wasn't reported until the Re-Invention Tour (a year and 3 months after its initial release). We're only 4 and a half months into Hard Candy's life (er, decline).

^ We will just have to wait until a third single is released. The sound of this album wasn't UK friendly really to begin with. Whatever, the album has done fine & it's really good!

HC is £13.00 in HMV, £11.00 in Zavvi and just under in the major supermarkets. If they go with BGO as a single and do a deal on the album then it could be reignated - look at what Disturbia has done for Rhianna's album. One good think about HC is that it didn't go straight to bargain bin prices like X-Crement did, less than two months after its release. :chuckle:

good it is not in the bargain bins as u say QB but 13.00 in HMV which is the major store in the UK is overpriced. An average price for new releases i would say is £8-10 these days.... To sell it for 5 quid would be shameful after 20 weeks of its release date, but £13 is too much

Oh here we go again. X sold the first 300k at "normal" price during the last 5 weeks of 07.

It has sold another 150k this year, mostly around £5.

Agreed, I think it is time to reduce the price of HC as it's sales are crap plus it has not helped by the time of year (summer is the worst sales time). £6.99-8.99 would be a good start.

Most shops i see it in bar woolworths and HMV have it at less than £9 now, its only gone that low this week though

X-Crement was £3.99 less than two months after its release

That made me laugh, same as Mariah's, its 2 for £10 mostly everywhere i see it, or a similar price and yes i got the album for £3.49 and the 'Wow' Maxi Single for £3.99
