Was the physical single already released? That was on downloads only - physical release is 19th April, so she has a good chance of going to Number 1 on Sunday - she is still number 1 in iTunes by a big lead and maybe enough physical singles can be sold on Sat (19th) to get her to the top on Sunday! I just can't see this hiphop shit dominating for another decade. I liked some of it in the beginning, but now it's just uninspired sludge. I can't tell you how annoyed I am when I listen to "No Air" or "Lollipop" and think these songs are doing better at radio than Madonna's single. They're like "sketches" of songs, not real ones. I don't know who supports that crap. I FINALLY found the other 6 remixes for "4 Minutes" on iTunes and downloaded them today. I've done my part until the album comes out. Pre-airplay only singles. Look at the sales instead! ... #1 sounds great but.... in my opinion and in any normal persons finacial opinion the winner here is really Madonna. Well her record company... Global artist really should have have to pull strings to top the charts!... Anyone who is saying she is not promoting like Mariah.... Who cares?..... Madonna is actually promoting better then Mariah... She is using the internet .. she looks great... she is being really... she is not forcing anyone to buy something they don't want! It's very obvious right now! That "4 Minutes" is the most popular song in the world at this moment! It may become the biggest selling digital single ever.. this is they way the world is turning... So Mariah should try her best right now before we become to technical. She's has less then 4 minutes! Billboard is a pretty good indication of what is popular in "America" however there are flaws... If Madonna is going to top the Hot 100.... with lower airplay it will be in the next two weeks because it has been the best selling song in America! This chart reaction proves a point!... I am sure billboard will look into this in the future... Everyone is IPOD and not about radio! Radio is a thing of the past unless you are at work or don't work at all! My personal opinion Billboard is not really with the times.. radio play is not a good decision on what is popular. However.. The Australian chart week runs from Saturday morning to Friday night, which is why new releases appear in stores on Saturday mornings (i.e. the start of the new chart week). The chart is compiled on Saturday, then broadcast officially on Sunday afternoon. By the time the chart has finished airing, two days worth of sales for the *new* chart week have already occurred. If Madonna is #1 in Australia on Sunday, it will be because of downloads alone - physical sales don't contribute to the chart until the following week. The other big artist I could compare Madonna to in terms of having limits to what formats they get played on is Pink since she would pretty much get the same formats as Madonna, so what was the peak of U + Ur Hand and Who Knew? As an artist, it's a good comparison, but the music style for Madonna's latest album is COMPLETELY different from Pink. 4M is basically a white artist doing a hip-hop song. We can consider it 'pop', but in all actuallity, if it had been a black singer do'n it, it would be hip-hop. And we have to couple this fact with the idea of a near-50year old woman singing it. Plus, radio is conservative, and it's MADONNA we're talking about... I just hope we still have a chance at #1 the week of release. Doens't want t change Billboard for Madonna, I wasn't schocked Hollywood, Get Together, Nobody knows me... did not chart, I was disappointed and angry at radio, but they didn't sales 200K, 100K or not even 30K. This time it's different, 4M was #1 sales, #2 this week, the most, or one of the most requested songs, with amazing callout and rate. so, Billboard is imposture. Won't be a sad news, for sure, if she tops the hot 100, sort of exploit such a context, but I don't really care. The song is a hot with or without Billboard. For me, 4M is #1. Skin Posted April 18, 2008 Share Posted April 18, 2008 it seems pretty clear that madonna can't make it to #1 on the hot 100 without earning a lot of AIRPLAY. we've seen, over and over, that madonna's sales can get her into the top ten... but then she gets stuck. is there anything she can do about this... short of billboard changing their methodology (again)? Of course she can get a #1 with her airplay and downloads. Its just all about TIMING! Had she held off putting her song on itunes by just one week, she probably without a doubt would have hit #1. But I think unlike Mariah, Madonna does not keep herself up at night trying to figure the game out and how to play it. And I have to say. Thank god for that. Leave that stuff to the fans.
