Read Mike Pence’s article advising employers never to hire gay people

giphy-151.gif

Earlier this week, The New Yorker published a damning profile on Mike Pence in which Trump “jokingly” said Pence wants to “hang all the gays.” That inspired readers to go dig in the Internet’s dirt in search of Pence’s other past offenses towards the LGBTQ community — not that you have to dig too deep.

As the head of the Indiana Policy Review in the 1990s, Pence published numerous articles urging employers not to hire gay people, compulsively churning out copy like this:

“Homosexuals are not as a group able-bodied. They are known to carry extremely high rates of disease brought on because of the nature of their sexual practices and the promiscuity which is a hallmark of their lifestyle.”

In that article — which you can read here — he also suggests homosexuality is a “pathological condition.”

In Pence’s ideal world, there would be zero protections for the LGBTQ community, a point he made clear by complaining about the passage of the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Bill.

As we reported last year, he groused when the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes bill was signed into law in 2009.

Pence didn’t cite legal objections, either. Instead, he complained that it advanced a “radical social agenda” and would have “a chilling effect on religious expression, from the pulpits, in our temples, in our mosques and in our churches.”

Of course, in Congress Pence voted against federal workplace protections. What was unique was his reasoning, which was that ENDA would discriminate against Christians. To comply with the law, Pence claimed, “the employer has to ban employees from having a * at the workplace for their break time, or displaying * verses.” Foreshadowing the Indiana religious liberty law, he went on: “We must stand for the right of every American to practice their faith according to the dictates of their conscience, whether it be in the public square or in the workplace.”

^ this again shows how dangerous Pence is.  Also why he agreed to be Trump's running partner.  Why so many Republicans happily put up with that crazy buffoon Trump. He does a lot of their dirty work because he is a narcissistic, power hungry attention seeking, offensive Fool. Kind of like a useful idiot to them. Someone as bigoted and dangerous as Pence will then look tame in comparison which is very misleading

Exclusive: First charges filed in Mueller investigation

By Pamela Brown, Evan Perez and Shimon Prokupecz, CNN

(CNN) A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter.

The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge. Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said. It is unclear what the charges are.

A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.

Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.

On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.

Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Shortly after President Donald Trump abruptly fired then-FBI Director James Comey, Rosenstein appointed Mueller as special counsel. Mueller took the reins of a federal investigation that Comey first opened in July 2016 in the middle of the presidential campaign.

Mueller is authorized to investigate "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation," according to Rosenstein's order.

The special counsel's investigation has focused on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as obstruction of justice by the President, who might have tried to impede the investigation. CNN reported that investigators are scrutinizing Trump and his associates' financial ties to Russia.

Mueller's team has also examined foreign lobbying conducted by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and others. His team has issued subpoenas for documents and testimony to a handful of figures, including some people close to Manafort, and others involved in the Trump Tower meeting between Russians and campaign officials.

Last year, the Comey-led investigation secured approval from the secret court that oversees the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to monitor the communications of Manafort, as well as former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, as part of the investigation into Russian meddling.

In addition to Mueller's probe, three committees on Capitol Hill are conducting their own investigations.

CNN's Marshall Cohen, Mary Kay Mallonee and Laura Robinson contributed to this report.

Well of course Pence is behind all the bigotry that's going on in the White House with Trump. Those bigots are a big chunk of their base so their votes still matter. I read an article about him on Rolling Stone some time ago and he seemed to be a guy who has used religion bias to push a political agenda based on intolerance and bigotry. Apparently he's very power hungry and secretly he despises Trump but he's willing to put up with him and play his political games because he truly believes he's going to take his place at some point.

The Papadopolous arrest is interesting. He lied to the FBI in an interview and later that same day Trump invited Comey to dinner where he asked Comey for a loyalty pledge.

Trump announces transgender ban on July 26th in a possible attempt to deflect the news that Papadopolous would be arrested the next day (although that eventually ended up not leaking).

He reached a plea deal, which might mean he's cooperating with the FBI.

It's a beautiful day.

Every time something like this happens I always go back to Obama's farewell speech which was a cloaked warning shot, but also a speech asking those terrified of Trump to "Remember that we are a nation of laws.".  He was clearly saying shit might seem dark but it will be okay.
