Pabl0114
I would have liked this pic, done in his style: Well I think the point was to have a pic that was not immediately recognizable. When u look at it you really Can't tell where or when is from.
jonski43
Hmm well that's true, except some of her original single mixes haven't been released on CD - let alone in remastered sound. If a GH is done well enough, then you won't have to burn your own. I love that Everybody is included (the single mix is very rare, of course), but that probably means the elusive original edit of Lucky Star won't be on it. I have that edit. I managed to find last year - is it that rare? As for Everybody, the US and UK edits are different. The UK edit has extra drums but I think they went overboard and I doubt they would use that. Pabl0114
We're told her new Greatest Hits collection will have a similar motif, and there may be different covers available for purchase... according to Perez. Different covers would be brilliant marketing! Fans would buy more than multiple copies just for the different covers. Reminds me of MJ's invincible and it's many different covers to get fans to buy multiples

TheRain1981 would be interested. I seem to recall Madge complaining how awful the UK mix of Everybody by Rusty Egan of Visage was.

EFMT
I hate the cover..It looks good and everything, but the Madonna-as-Marilyn ship has kind of sailed. Plus this is meant to be the big compilation to end all compilations that showcases how iconic M is, but they have to use an exact replica of Marilyn's image for the cover? Guest ursaminorjim
It's Madonna's head he's fitting them into though. I know. But it's still a visual mash-up as well as a reference/theft.

ketchup
I know. But it's still a visual mash-up as well as a reference/theft. Yes just clarifying. And he's not the first by far to reference Andy. What makes it special I think is that it's referencing Madonna and Andy referencing Marilyn. Like now Madonna has become the pop art and the archetype but it keeps intact the icons she invoked before her.

Hollywood didn't seem real, the first 3 had phrases from the songs and not the titles themselves. So this would have been "shine your light now" or something and the style doesn't exactly match still though, love this campaign
Ai Papi Si.
I love the cover, I wish they had kept the original hairdo though (slicked back). The original picture is one of my all time favorite images of Madonna. Defiant, intimidating, oddly beautiful.

Guest ursaminorjim
I guess the whole point is to visualise her success/fame/notoriety and without using a much more antogonistic photo, I don't think any photo could have been more successful at doing so. Whats the problem with the Warhol reference? That is kind of the whole point...if it were a painting of Sunflowers a la Van Gogh it would be pointless dontchathink? Read back through the thread - it was an explanation and a clarification, not a critique.
