Lucky guy
MATM has no place on a Madonna compilation. On Ms. Spears' compilation, it fits in just fine, but not on an album celebrating the Queen of Pop's illustrious history. Well nor does 4 Minutes then. But unfortunately we know that will be on there.
ryan
GetUnconscious, ugg, that playlist is awful... Well nor does 4 Minutes then. But unfortunately we know that will be on there. Fortunately, 4 Minutes is a must, and it will be included.
Guest Coked Up Baby Boy
Well nor does 4 Minutes then. But unfortunately we know that will be on there. MATM is a BRITNEY song featuring Madonna. 4 Minutes is a Madonna AND Justin song.
afrolito
Why would she ever put MATM on her own legacy cd???? It's a a fucking Britney Spears song featuring Madonna. 4 minutes is a Madonna song, and will definitely be on there. Haters be damned.

Guest Topaz Scorpio
Personally I don't see how this collection cannot have major omissions without being a 3 CD set. I would break it up into themes as other suggested with one disc focusing on DANCE, another on BALLADS/LIGHTER TRACKS, and the third on general POP tracks. Each disc could also feature one new song (one dance - "Celebrate", one ballad, and one basic pop track). This could be the standard release. There could also be a smaller one disc edition that gives an overview of her career plus one new song ("Celebrate"). And then have a deluxe edition for the fans that features a fourth disc with a continuous set of M remixes and a special edition booklet. Here's how I would break it up (order of the songs is random): DISC ONE - DANCE Everybody Holiday Into the Groove Causing A Commotion Express Yourself Vogue Deeper and Deeper Ray of Light Beautiful Stranger Music Die Another Day Hung Up Sorry Give It 2 Me Where's The Party Like A Prayer (the same version as TIC) Lucky Star Celebrate DISC TWO - POP Bedtime Story Like A Virgin Material Girl Angel Dress You Up Papa Don't Preach Open Your Heart Who's That Girl Keep It Together Justify My Love Erotica Secret Don't Tell Me Hollywood American Life 4 Minutes Human Nature *New Song* DISC THREE - BALLADS/LIGHTER TRACKS Borderline Crazy For You Live To Tell La Isla Bonita True Blue Cherish Oh, Father Rain This Used To Be My Playground I'll Remember Take A Bow You'll See Don't Cry For Me Argentina Frozen Drowned World/Substitute For Love The Power of Goodbye What It Feels Like For A Girl *New Track* And for the one disc set I would include: Holiday Lucky Star Like A Virgin Material Girl Crazy For You Into the Groove Papa Don't Preach La Isla Bonita Like A Prayer Express Yourself Vogue Erotica Secret Ray of Light Music Hung Up 4 Minutes Celebrate
HolidayGuy
Some of the tracks you have among the three CDs really wouldn't be MAJOR omissions though- among TIC-era tracks, the ones left off TIC- with the exception of "Dress You Up"- truthfully, they're not as great as the rest. And with 1992-on tracks, the smaller-sized hits wouldn't be that much of an omission. She's had plenty of hits to fill three CDs, but a nice, representative two-disc release should be alright. Three-disc hits compilations aren't all that common- if it's ever more, it's usually a third that's rarities or something. Prince had The Hits/The B-Sides, but, as the title said, one disc was B-Sides. And, the two discs felt kinda padded, as that release covered just a 13-14-year period. Dickens
Assuming that the GH will be two discs, this would be my track listing: Disc 1: Holiday Borderline Lucky Star Like a Virgin Material Girl Crazy for You Into the Groove Dress You Up Live to Tell Papa Don't Preach True Blue Open Your Heart La Isla Bonita Who's That Girl Causing a Commotion Like a Prayer Express Yourself Cherish Disc 2: Vogue Justify My Love This Used to Be My Playground Erotica Deeper and Deeper I'll Remember Secret Take a Bow Frozen Ray of Light Beautiful Stranger Music Don't Tell Me Die Another Day Hung Up 4 Minutes Celebrate Revolver That would be 18 tracks on each disc. And if single edits were used, they should fit on two 80-minute discs (assuming about 4 minutes per song for the two new tracks).

With one addition, that's the tracklisting I've stuck to since the mention of new recordings being included. The only thing that differs is mine also includes "Angel" on disc one. It fills the CD just past 79 minutes and makes it so that her entire, legendary run of consecutive top 5 US hits --"Lucky Star" to "Cherish"!-- are included. Disc two (once the new songs are added) would land somewhere in the 78-80 minute range. So, to me, the perfect tracklisting would be: CD1 Holiday Borderline Lucky Star Like A Virgin Material Girl Crazy For You Angel Into The Groove Dress You Up Live To Tell Papa Don't Preach True Blue Open Your Heart La Isla Bonita Who's That Girl Causing A Commotion Like A Prayer Express Yourself Cherish CD2 Vogue Justify My Love This Used To Be My Playground Erotica Deeper And Deeper I'll Remember Secret Take A Bow Frozen Ray Of Light Beautiful Stranger Music Don't Tell Me Die Another Day Hung Up 4 Minutes Celebrate Revolver

Kurt420
Your tracklisting is good Mattress. I like the idea of the 16 consecutive top 5's on disc one and skipping Evita is probably a good thing.

Mattress
I really hope they know what they're doing. Can't wait for final word from Warner Bros. Oh, and since we don't know the length of the new songs, 18 tracks on disc two really is playing it safe. It's fully possible that if the two new songs were short enough (i.e. the length of her recent radio singles) there would be room for one more song. In that instance, I would add "You'll See". If it's actually a Greatest Hits then Everybody technically doesn't belong. If it's an anthology type thing then it would be essential!
Queen Bitch
Oh, and here's hoping we don't get the boring, old chronological running order. I mean, it seems more than likely we will, but I'd like to see something more coherent, something that's structured more as a journey rather than a scrapbook. I can't see that the will from a marketing perspective as it would just look like TIC with a second, more fuller disc than GHV2 added to it. I think they'll want to intersperse some of the lesser hits, amongst the stand outs - it would be a good way of bringing the hidden gems to the mass consciousness. Queen Bitch
I should've re-worded that, actually. Yeah, going in chronological order is a journey, but it's a journey we've all been on already. I know that story. I like to learn something new by juxtaposing contexts around a bit. It just makes a more satisfying experience. They can save the chronolgical order for the inevitable 'definitive' collection they'll release at some point. They'll be hoping this will be her ABBA Gold so they'll be pitching it for mass appeal. Crystal Coffin
Terrific track listing Mattress, except that I think JML should have been dropped. I like it a lot and the video is timeless but it better kept as TIC's treasure for good.

zephyralexxx
this compilation will not focus only on the big hits. they will be some remixes also. remember You Can Dance? Mainly no hits, remixed and in sequence. That's what I would wish rather than the same all tracklists posted here a la TIC or GHV2.
Guest dicktracy
I think the set may well open with Celebrate. I would love that. I actually thought that the whole compilation would benefit from a reversed chronological order, sort of a "trip down memory lane.." Disc One: 1. Celebrate 2. Revolver 3. 4 Minutes 4. Sorry 5. Hung Up 6. Die Another Day 7. Don't Tell Me 8. Music 9. American Pie 10. Beautiful Stranger 11. Ray Of Light 12. Frozen 13. Take A Bow 14. Secret 15. I'll Remember 16. Erotica 17. Justify My Love 18. This Used To Be My Playground* An alternate version if they decide to not include AP (since M apparently regrets having recorded it) would be... 9. Beautiful Stranger 10. Ray Of Light 11. Frozen 12. Take A Bow 13. Secret 14. I'll Remember 15. Deeper And Deeper 16. Erotica 17. Justify My Love 18. This Used To Be My Playground* ...and if they want to focus on a lesser known song.... 9. Beautiful Stranger 10. Ray Of Light 11. Frozen 12. Bedtime Story 13. Take A Bow 14. Secret 15. Deeper And Deeper 16. Erotica 17. Justify My Love 18. This Used To Be My Playground^ ^This Used To Be My Playground feels out of place between Justify My Love and Erotica so I think it would thematically fit better at the end of the disc. ***Remember that in TIC Lucky Star and Borderline are chronologically reversed probably so the disc can flow better so I don't think this would be too much of a stretch*** Disc Two: 1. Vogue 2. Express Yourself 3. Like A Prayer 4. Cherish* 5. Who's That Girl 6. La Isla Bonita 7. Open Your Heart 8. True Blue 9. Papa Don't Preach 10. Live To Tell 11. Dress You Up 12. Into The Groove 13. Crazy For You 14. Material Girl 15. Like A Virgin 16. Lucky Star 17. Borderline 18. Holiday *Cherish fits more with the pop of her True Blue era than with her house music remixes, therefore I'd move its position for a better flow. Queen Bitch
I can't see American Pie, I'll Remember or This Used To Be My Playground being included. She obviously doesn't want to be reminded of TNBT and she seems to have erased the other two tracks from her consciousness. I can understand if they ommit either AP or IR but I really think that TUTBMP needs to be part of the compilation because it was #1 in the US and arguably the end of her supremacy since it preceded the SEX/Erotica backlash. Interestingly its theme could not have been more appropriate.

ryan
Here's a question i hope someone could answer truthly Back then, the maximum recording time on a CD was 74 minutes. Erotica pushed the limits on that with 75:24 on the explicit version. Is it possible to go beyond 80 minutes?? Can they do 90 minutes for a disc??
