HITS:

YOUR WEAKEND TOP 10 PREVIEW: With an expected tally of 190-200k, the debuting Nas (Def Jam/Columbia) will unseat fellow MC Lil Wayne (Cash Money/Universal Motown), who’s spent four weeks total at #1, but he’s looking good for #2 with a number in the 105-110k range.

Former chart-topper Coldplay (Capitol) is also hanging around the chart’s upper reaches with a projected 85-90, as is Camp Rock (Disney), right behind at 80-85k. The resurging Kid Rock (Atlantic) will probably round out the Top 5 with 70-75k.

The rest of the Top 10 will be a traffic jam involving Mamma Mia! (Decca) and the debuting John Mellencamp (Hear Music), both looking 50-55k-ish; as three more bows—David Banner (SRC/Universal Motown), O.A.R. (Everfine/Atlantic) and Taylor Swift’s Wal-Mart exclusive (Big Machine)—join Capitol’s Now 28 in the 40-45k ’hood.

^ I believe it's a Wal-Mart exclusive. If it weren't, and it was a new studio album, you know it'd be selling a lot more than that.

Oddly, Swift's debut doesnt' show up on the chart yet.

I hope the success of Kid Rock's album doesn't lead to another "anti-single" movement where people are forced to buy shitty one hit wonder albums instead of just downloading the one song they want just like in the late 90's when you were forced to buy OMC, Fastball, Nada Surf and all the other one hit wonders' shit albums to get the one single you liked.

Kid Rock's 2001 album Cocky got off to a slow start but after Picture became a huge success the album took off and sold over 4 million copies.

baby, that will never ever happen again lol, at least to anyone whos semi with the program of the technology 2day. W/ P2P, downloading, e-mailing, message boards, etc etc etc) only a true clueless doofus would spend $10-$20 on an entire album for just 1 song lol. I, like many are still bitter about being royally screwed by record companies for having to do just that- spends wads of cash on entire albums for only 1 or 2 good songs. Such a shame the technology wasnt just 5-10 yrs ahead or I wasnt 10 yrs younger lol. I would have saved several hundred dollars esp. in the mid-late 90s, and having to skip through several filler shit songs lol.

I agree. I do believe that singlehandedly led to the demise of the recording industry and why illegal downloading exploded like it did. I don't think there's one person here who was a music consumer in the 90's that didn't get burned at least a few times because there was one fantastic song and a lot of forgettable other tracks, and the only way to get that good song was by the full-length album. I wish the labels would take some of the blame instead of just bashing the consumers.

I would say in all honesty that in the past few years, the quality of albums as whole units have remarkably improved becaus the artists are aware of downloading and therefore put more work into the product so the consumer will feel like they're getting their moneys worth, as opposed to the 90's when crap was coming out from the left and right and all it needed was one good song that would be withheld from a commercial single.

All of what you say is very true! Which is why I felt absolutely no remorse in the Napster days......however, I think I've made up for it by now! :)

But I do still buy albums that I feel are worth it and since I've had an ipod and started using itunes, my "emuling frenzies" have drastically decreased. I try to only "emule" what I can't find on itunes.....but occassionally I still give in. ;)

BWAHAHAHAHAHA at Mariah. Extensive promotion, strategically released singles, high-budget videos. Still she barely was able to sell more than a million and that mostly due to a big first week. And now the only way is down.

How does it feel now to be overexposed and have broken the Elvis record of the most No 1's? Kind of boomerang, I think.

Not that Madonna is doing any better of course.

Anyway, after all those two bitches have had enough No 1s. Nothing to be sad about.

High-budget videos? Mimi?

Anyhoo, she's performing on the Teen Choice Awards soon- not that that's going to send the album rocketing back up the charts or anything.

desperate. obvious. predictable

dunno bout anyone else, but since Mbase no longer allows access to their site from what I can see. So, I cant even tell you how its doing lol. From what I read, and "heard", its not illuminating the radio. Not bombing, yet maybe doing about as well as Buh Bye. Look how that turned out. The song and album just lacks that momentum in every way TEOM had. Even as shitty as DFAU and the other songs were, there was the "momentum" factor. This lacks it in every way. Gut feelin is tellin me, ultimately, she'll end up with another Top 40 single (cant predict the peak, but DEF no #1), just her record labels goodwill to save her sanity/ another mental catastrophe, yet wont do much better than BBye.

Mariah's latest single is starting to take off though right? I know it debuted on the Hot 100 but I haven't really paid attention to it's AI's or anything.

it debuted at #1.....00

I'm very curious to see what's going to happen with Mariah in the next few years in regards to radio airplay/charts. By the time her next album rolls around she will be over the dreaded (for pop stars anyways) big 4-0.

Mariah at no48?

Can you believe the lambs said Mariah would definitely have the best selling album of 2008? :chuckle:
