Couldn't do it for Madonna though could it - but Take That are a much bigger act than her in the UK.

That was my point but I didn't want to mention it in case I got my arse whooped again for being negative! She did manage to get Jump into the top 10 but her concerts just don't get her albums back into the charts except IC.

Still, I suppose the old girl isn't doing that bad overall!

And Sonia? Is someone referring to that scouse bird from the 80s? Please don't say she is trying to get back on comeback trail? She was bad enough the first time round.

MJ's Number Ones is likely to top tomorrow's chart. It debuted at #1 back in November 2003, I think it's around 5x Platinum, it's a real hit album in the UK. Interestingly, "Man In The Mirror" is not on this CD (just the US edition) as it was replaced by "Human Nature".

That IS interesting, cheers. I didn't know that.

I mistakenly thought MITM being the "chosen" song (a likely #1 this Sunday; at least the highest-rated single of his on this week's countdown) was down to Chris Moyles spinning it at the peak of his breakfast show the morning after the death. But with it being the biggest-selling post-death MJ single as of now in both the US and Australia, I'm trying to fathom a reason as to why. I did think one of his slower-paced tracks would be the posthumous hit but MITM didn't even scrape the Top 20 on original release in Britain. Anyone have any theories for its success this week? Perhaps it was played a lot on the news tributes?

So that's about 1.5 million right?

Interestingly, I think it sold about 1.7m in the US.

it´s the best compilation of all of them so I hope so.

And Invincible should have been beneficying of this madness too, it´s not a bad album

Wasn't there a re-issue of Essential already, with that third disc?

Number Ones was four quid in HMV - I'm surprised they didn't hike the price but it must be due to a deal they've already done with the label.

I only have Bad on CD so I might buy the remasters of OTW, Thriller and Bad - is Dangerous any good?

I think that was US only, Essential 3.0 or something. This is UK only, renamed The Hits, but has the exact same discs as the 2005 version.

maybe Invincible is OOP in the UK?

No, it's at 181 in the midweeks (and also at 91 in what appears to be a double edition with Blood On The Dancefloor).

Cascada is catching up on MJ, fast, shes only 5k behind now, was over 8k yesterday.

As much as I want Cacada to be #1, and I REALLY do, I think its more fitting for MJ to have a #1, even if it is that song.

Cascada are trailing by 2,400 and La Roux is around 15k ahead in the album chart.

They're currently 162 copies behind Man In The Mirror.

MJ has 44 singles and 12 albums in the respective top 200 charts.

OMG - Cascada almost there... anyhow here is the last of this weeks midweek updates for the entire top 40. The Essential MJ now seems to be the preferred retrospective of choice this week and could make number 1 on Sunday. Not sure why it is suddenly surging.

because it´s better, and although it doesn´t have all his hits or a new song like number 1´s does, it has songs from all his eras...

i want man in the mirror to be number 1, just because it´s a brilliant song that surprisingly wasn´t a top ten in the UK back in the day...buta number 2 it´s good enough.

Another reason to buy essentials:number 1´s, at least in spain and i bet in the UK is the same, doesn´t include MITM
