horn
Madonna Fans Rejoice: New Album Due in Spring 2012 by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | September 03, 2011 10:09 EDT Madonna's 12th studio album will be released in the spring of 2012, with its first single due out in February or March. The diva announced the news herself in an interview with Sweden's Sveriges Television (SVT) in Venice, Italy. Madonna is there to promote her film "W.E.," which premiered out of competition at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday, Sept. 1. Madonna says that she's "started a little bit of work in the studio" for the forthcoming album and will continue recording in "New York, until the end of the year" when she returns to the United States. The entertainer began working on the album officially on July 4, as confirmed by her manager Guy Oseary, via a tweet. That day marked her "1st day in the recording studio for the new album." She also didn't correct the interviewer when he mentioned how she was re-teaming with producer William Orbit, which would seem to indicate a confirmation of their collaboration. Orbit co-produced and co-wrote the bulk of Madonna's 1998 album "Ray of Light." The set debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, has sold 3.9 million copies in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan and won the Grammy Award for best pop album. The as-yet-untitled new album will be her first studio release after leaving Warner Bros. Records and entering into an all-encompassing deal with Live Nation. Her final Warner Bros. studio set, "Hard Candy," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and has sold 739,000 in the U.S. It spawned the hit single, "4 Minutes," featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Nightshade
I still feel like the rumors we have gotten are a little all over the map as far as producers. I wonder if this will be a Bedtime Stories affair with many different collaborators - but no dominant one.

As long as she's set on a unifying musical or emotional theme for the project we should be fine.
Nightshade
As long as she's set on a unifying musical or emotional theme for the project we should be fine. Oh, I am not worried per se. After all, Ray of Light started out with a diaspora of various songwriters and producers. I think the end results was amazing.

Guest bluejean
that eonline article in the old thread is making my blood boil... She's probably trying out different people to get a feel of the direction she wants to go in. Usually 1 or 2 producers dominate, usually 1. Just imagine if she's got several producers working 1 track at a time. That could be interesting and a great way of creating something unique. Guest bluejean
Btw, I never felt Bedtimes Stories was that all over the place. It was only afew tracks that stood out, mainly Bedtime Story -> Sanctuary -> Take A Bow that doesn't flow stylistically. But I think she learnt her lesson with that album because her albums have generally been cohesive since then. Apart from the mix of acoustic and electro on Music and American Life. But that seemed somewhat intentional.

But that seemed somewhat intentional. After hearing Ray of Light, both Bedtime Story and Sanctuary would have sat perfectly on that album. As it was, they gave us an early preview of the direction she would explore 4 years on. I think it's good that most of Madonna's album have some variety on them, as long as they remain cohesive, which they generally do.

What I'm saying is that multiple producers are fine if you have a solid direction for the project -- whether it's musical or emotional -- you need a throughline to unify it. Guest
Voices out of places in Hard Candy with all that Timbaland production? LOL! I do think Voices fits well with the album. It is that damn "Spanish Torture" that throws the album off balance.
cosmic_system
Personally I think there isn't one single song on HC that doesn't belong to the record. The only time that happened in one of her albums was with Vogue, Take A Bow and American Pie (but yes, that one was just a bonus track).

Flip The Switch
No matter who's working with her for the album I cannot wait for the excitment of the cover pic leaked, snippets of the first single, album artwork and all the madness! HolidayGuy
Music[/]i was a much ACCLAIMED album for 2000- didn't fare as well on decade-end lists, though. It was a goiod album- not quite as good or cohesive as ROL, but she reached her pinnacle there in terms of albums (also with LAP).

We all appreciate something on a given Madonna album. Music had the misfortune of being the follow-up to Ray of Light. It did bring us Mirwais who is my all-time favorite Madonna collaborator after Shep Pettibone.

Although it's brought up as being least cohesive, that isn't to say it's a bad album. On the contrary, it's great. I prefer American Life to it, but Music did bring some amazing stuff, like Impressive Instant and Paradise.
