HolidayGuy
It probably will dip 7-8 on the next Top 40 Mainstream, but still be bulleted (since "Sexy Can I" looks to have jumped it).
mtzlplk
It probably will dip 7-8 on the next Top 40 Mainstream, but still be bulleted (since "Sexy Can I" looks to have jumped it). funny... 4 Minutes is higher than that song in callout research (what some posters here say that it's what radio programmers follow)... it's also more Pop than that song... yet 4M is struggling more to go up... if the CALLOUT RESEARCH theory no longer holds... so what alibi is left to prove why MADONNA is struggling at radio? OLD AGE? WOMAN? POLITICAL?
Guest superbu
OLD AGE? WOMAN? POLITICAL? Years ago, my brother-in-law used to be a program director at a popular classic rock station. Their station was monitored by Billboard. This was in pre-SoundScan days. He told me they used to put whatever songs they liked on the list and leave off songs they personally did not like. "Now," he said, "they have SoundScan, so you can't cheat." I think she's doing well in airplay. She's up to number 11 on the Building the Hot 100 Airplay chart. But her troubles at radio are largely because of her age, I think. HolidayGuy
Definitely it's the age. And 4M has far exceeded any expectations I had for it at radio, so smart move, Madge.
Etips
I think age is only part of the issue. Madonna hasn’t been a strong ‘singles’ artist at radio since she stopped making standard commercial-sounding music in the middle 1990s. While the ROL/Music-era spun off some surprisingly well received hit singles, even then there was a feeling that Madonna’s music stood a greater chance of being an underdog at radio. Today Madonna’s coming off of two albums that had virtually no radio hits. That, in and of itself, is going to make her have to work harder in an attempt to almost reintroduce herself to radio listeners who haven’t been guaranteed to generally accept her material in years. Right now (even with Timbaland and Justin in her pocket) she is having to almost build back up commercial ‘credit’ to an indifferent listening public…and skeptical radio programmers who probably haven’t seen an intense demand amongst their listeners for Madonna in years. 4M has done a good job cracking the door open, but the quest doesn’t end there… Edited May 6, 2008 by Etips
HolidayGuy
That is true. Plus, keep in mind that her peak audience peak in the BDS era is "Music," with a weekly peak of 83 million. That peaked at No. 3 Hot 100 Airplay; No. 2 Top 40 Mainstream; No. 9 Rhythmic Top 40; and No. 16 Adult Top 40. That's as good as it's gonna get, and chances aren't too strong that she'll get near that again.
Guest iMisto
Waah-wah. Bitch, fucking request. It's the best thing you can do. In just 5minutes, you can request like 100+ times. It's as simple as click-click-enter. Pick a couple of Madonna songs you wanna listen to on your comp. while you do it. Wtf is wrong w/ you bitches? Guest ercos
i'm pretty sure 4M has peaked on the Hot 100. it's now time to focus on GI2M. ____________ am just hopeful that it cud jump but with the sliding sales and with just a 50M+ AI, its really wishful thinking... as for GI2M. am a little doubtful that US radio will support the song, but as for the other countries, am sure it will be a big hit too... Nightshade
madonna's chance on another no. 1 seems farther and farther away... Pffft...Madonna doesn't even care, so why should we? "4 Minutes" had #1 written all over it and she blew it. She doesn't give a fuck. It went to #1 in Europe anyway, so it's still a #1 hit. I don't care what the Lambs say. mtzlplk
madonna's chance on another no. 1 seems farther and farther away... yeah... to be honest, after 4 Minutes, she may not have another #1 really... if her promo team and tactics don't change in the future 4 Minutes clearly had a very very good chance to be #1, but it failed to because of ill-timing and strategy... if that will not change, she may really not get another #1 in the HOT100.. but we just have to get over it... at least she's #1 around the world... Guest iMisto
It just sucks... cause TMB will be known for hitting the top spot. Even if 4M outsells it... HOWEVER, I think it's good that 4M wont really get played out for the general public. I'm sure everybody was tired of TMB when it hit #1. lol
