Madonna songs/albums that have/haven't aged well

Erotica as a whole is the only one to me that seems too "stuck in it's time". I love it but even her older albums sound more "fresh" in my opinion.

To me Erotica reminds me of a lot of early 90s R&B and hip hop albums because of the production values. It has that lo-fi recorded from a cassette deck sound to it. The closest I can compare it to in sound is Mary J. Blige's What's The 411? which came out the same year.

Certain Madonna songs sound soooo out dated (Like A Virgin is an eternal 80's song). But it does not take away the fact that they were and are terrific songs. To me, Secret sounds like the era it came from. It totally reminds me TLC, Mariah Carey, Montell Jordan etc, etc.. It was, to me, the first time Madonna was playing catch up with what was on the radio. Vocals aside, Janet Jackson had already covered that sound a year earlier on her janet. album.

PLEASE don't hate me for saying that, IMHO.

Hmmm...there is some pretty heavy 80's synth-sounding stuff on True Blue (although I still love all of it) - "White Heat" in particular. "Can't Stop" from the WTG Sdtk. is pretty dated too. I think her 90's stuff is relatively unscathed aside from maybe the very house-y "Thief of Hearts".

Of course, one man's dated track is another's nostalgia gem.

all of it: TIMELESS.

Agree Pud. Kind of sick of people using the words dated, irrelevant etc to describe music. You can enjoy and love music from all eras. It is the same as people constantly complaining about modern music. Open your minds, hearts and ears and enjoy. That is how music is supposed to be enjoyed, not put into boxes of certain time frames. Do people think that Beethoven, Mozart etc are dated ? I know it seems a strange example but really great music whether classical, soul, pop, country, RNB, rock etc is always great.

I really could not say if any of her music has aged well or not; it's coz I listen to them all the time and they've ALWAYS been great.

If you listen frequently (at least once a week or so) to, say, Dress You Up, can you really say it has aged when it's relatively constantly present?
