M Mix Suggestions

So I'm dating someone who's much younger than me. Yep, I'm basically a cradle robber. The weirdest thing about it is that his Madonna knowledge is pretty limited. He knows some of her biggest classics ("Like a Prayer" and, oddly, "Frozen" since he remembers the video from when he was a kid), but had never heard "Erotica" (!). He's also not huge on pop music in general. So I'm making him a mix. Here's what I decided on based on my favorites:

live to tell
till death do us part
oh father
justify my love
erotica
secret garden
secret
sanctuary
bedtime story
i want you
sky fits heaven
the power of good-bye
has to be
paradise (not for me)
easy ride
get together
love spent

Any other suggestions?

I have found guys who are not that into pop music seem to like the American Life album.

He might also like some of her ballads. I'll Remember, Rain, You'll See...

The whole albums of Erotica and Ray of Light

Live to Tell, Oh Father, Borderline, Love Don't Live Here Anymore, Take A Bow, Drowned World, Bedtime Story, Sanctuary, Skin, Get Together, Forbidden Love 05, Beat Goes on

Her cover of I want you

^ I'm not sure anyone who isn't a fan will respond well to "She's Not Me" or "Incredible." I'm steering clear of HC altogether.

I've found that out of her recent albums, HC gets the best response amongst non-fans.......but most of these people are fans of pop music in general.

I tried to pick songs based on your list:

Skin

Nobody's Perfect

Die Another Day

Isaac

Falling Free

I guess because it follows recent trends and the Timbaland sound is really popular. I have a feeling he wouldn't be into it. Maybe "Voices."

I actually thought about putting Voices on my list but left it off since it's from HC.....and you can clearly hear Justin's voice on it, I figured someone who's not the biggest fan of pop music in general may find his vox a bit grating. Other than that though, I think it would be a perfect song to add. Maybe the orchestral version of Voices??

So, update: I was curious which Madonna songs he knows (again, he's 23), so I played him 40 of what I deem to be M's most notable singles, and here's the results:

HE RECOGNIZED (some of which he didn't realize were Madonna):

Holiday
Lucky Star
Like a Virgin
Material Girl
Into the Groove
Like a Prayer
Vogue
Take a Bow
Frozen
Ray of Light
Beautiful Stranger
Music
Hung Up (surprised by this one)

SONGS HE VAGUELY RECOGNIZED BUT WASN'T SURE:

Dress You Up (sounded familiar, but wasn't sure. I think he might recognize it from the Gap commercial)
Papa Don't Preach (knows it from Kelly Osbourne's version)
Open Your Heart (sounded familiar, but wasn't sure)
Express Yourself (thinks he knows it, but maybe from a cover version - not sure what it could have been)

THE ONES HE DIDN'T RECOGNIZE:

Borderline
Crazy for You

Angel

Live to Tell
True Blue

La Isla Bonita
Who's That Girl
Causing a Commotion
Cherish
Justify My Love
This Used to Be My Playground
Erotica
Deeper and Deeper
Rain
I'll Remember
Secret

You'll See
Don't Tell Me (really strange that he knew "Music" but not this one)
4 Minutes (he apparently didn't listen to the radio at all during this period)

He has taste! Pop music sucks. A friend of mine also hates pop music and when I was playing the latest greatest hits in the car, he said, "These are her worst songs." So here is my list of amazing alternative songs, in addition to yours:

1. Nobody's Perfect

2. I Deserve It

3. Mer Girl

4. Where Life Begins

5. Act of Contrition

6. Celebration (BB Remix and Dub)

7. Love Profusion (Headcleanr)

8. Drowned World

9. Up Down Suite

10. Beast Within

11. Justify My Love (Orbit Remix)

12. I'll Remember (Guerrilla Beach Remix)

13. X-static Process

14. B-day Song (very young hipster sound, lots of irony with MIA)

that should tide him over for a while

Nice. I would add Drowned World, Swim, Mer Girl, Nothing Fails, Don't Tell Me (the guy can have fun, even if he likes experimental, no?!), Falling Free, Future Lovers, Isaac... Also, Erotica (Confessions Tour) and Like a Virgin (MDNA Tour).

And what would you say about including "I'm A Sinner"?

These songs, along with the ones you've chosen (with the exception of "till death do us part" - I would replace for Everybody and Burning Up) have gone well with those supposedly Madonna non-fans (Fact: no one in actually is a Madonna non-fan. They just haven't taken the time to explore her vast catalogue).

^ Good suggestions. I don't think "I'm a Sinner" is worthy when there's stuff from ROL that's superior though.

Here's my updated list:

Live to Tell

Oh Father

Sooner or Later

Rescue Me (S.O.S. Mix)

Fever

Waiting

Secret Garden

Sanctuary

Bedtime Story

I Want You

Frozen

The Power of Good-bye

Mer Girl

Has to Be

Paradise (Not for Me)

Gone

Easy Ride

Isaac
