A "Celebration" Of Madonna Music (Part 2)

I know what you mean. The only thing that really bothers me is that she might not include Playground, IR, YS, or Rain, and that sort of seems like ignoring a certain style of song (that was very successful for her) in favor of mostly uptempo hits.

well, maybe she thinks that dance songs/up-tempo songs are better for a celebration so she´s skipping the ballads

anyway, I´m sure WB will release more GH in the next years, and a ballads one will be for sure.

And, about the track list of the album, I think it´s quite good, although, to be fair with her career, they should release a single CD with 20 songs, really the Greatest, ala "Number one"s, and then a triple CD with 60 songs!

and three different covers, one per decade

So, how many shipments do you think WBR will send out initially of 'Celebration'?

There are several factors that could make this have huge first week sales:

-It is a comprehensive compilation with great songs most people have fond memories of

-Good promo would remind everyone of her great songs

-MJ, his death have made everyone remember the 80's, Icons, and huge stars. Which leads me to ....

-Nostalgia. Nostalgia is especially high during rough times like a terrible economy. Could massive nostalgia bring people out to buy 'Celebration'?

-Hard core fans will rush out to buy this. But also, many casual buyers will pick it up. I know many people who wouldn't buy a proper M studio CD but they do want this CD.

-She is touring and will have wrapped up her tour shortly before the CD comes out. She will be fresh in everyone's mind which would make them more likely to take the time to buy this.

What do you think? How many units will WBR ship out? A million? 2 million? 2.5 million? *Just talking USA right now*

In that case, "Borderline," "Crazy For You," "Dress You Up," "True Blue" and "Deeper And Deeper" are the other 6 I would consider "essential", though "Sorry" would always be welcomed.

I think the tracklist is proof that asking the fans on Twitter was purely a PR exercise and had no bearing on the final tracklist whatsoever.

The promo video on Madonna.com seems very heavy on the GI2M and Get Together videos too.

Any word on how the songs will be "remastered"?

ok, I don´t know if this is reliable or not, but that´s what I found on the net:

Agosto 03

I think that tracklist surfaced sometime earlier already. "YMLM" is definitely there, plus if I counted right, it has one song more than 36, so it's fake.

Oakenfold interview:

http://www.spinner.com/2009/08/03/paul-oakenfold-breaks-barriers-with-madonna/

The first single from Madonna's upcoming greatest hits and more album, 'Celebration,' is the newly recorded title track. Living up to its title with a fun, freewheeling vibe, the dance anthem was co-produced by Madonna and DJ/producer Paul Oakenfold. Oakenfold tells Spinner that the pair worked on several songs to boost the retrospective with new sounds.

"I produced a bunch of cuts. I don't know what's on the album, I just know 'Celebration' is the first single," Oakenfold says. "I didn't know it was coming out so soon either," he adds excitedly, speaking from Norway where he's midway through his duties as the opening artist on the European leg of Madonna's 'Sticky and Sweet' tour.

Mid-July, Oakenfold issued the latest in his Perfecto Records mix CD collection, 'Perfecto Vegas,' a whopping double-CD inspired by the edgier club cuts from the 45-year-old British-born artist's 2008 residency at the Palms Hotel and Casino. "It's underground tracks from the underground side of what we do," he says. "There are tracks that I do that become hits and other DJs play them. But there's no point in having an album with those kind of tracks. It dates the record."

Three Oakenfold productions are mooted for inclusion on 'Celebration,' which is due in September. It's important that the new tracks blend in, he says, and he took Madonna's classic songs as inspiration. Still, though 'Celebration' easily recalls Madonna's 1983 breakthrough 'Holiday,' Oakenfold wasn't going for a total retro feel. "I'm certainly not looking to go backwards. I'm looking to go forwards and to break musical barriers down with something that's up-tempo and works on American radio, which is pretty jaded in some respects," he says. "In terms of the song, it sounds classic Madonna; in terms of the music, it's cutting edge."

The 'Celebration' single is out now.

Is that supposed to be sarcasm? How is "Celebration" cutting edge and something that works on American radio? :dramatic:

American radio will suck (and it kinda does already) if it won't promote Celebration, which is an amazing song.

Well it won't, we just have to live with that

they hate Madonna and it's a fact...

But here in Sweden the song is already added to the big radio stations and it's #1 on Swedish iTunes already!

GOOO EUROPE!

It's not the song. It's Madonna. American radio just doesn't support Madonna. If Celebration were sung by Lady Gaga, I'm pretty sure the radio will play the hell out of it.

People here always blame her age as the only factor...

I say that US radio is just anti-Madonna in general nowadays... it's not just the age.. but offcourse it's one of the factors

I imagine the final tracklist won't surface until beginning of next month, at the earliest.

U.S. radio is resistant to *new* Madonna (especially pop radio)- age factor definitely would be a main reason for that. AC and Hot AC radio play her older material well enough.

i'm hoping madonna will write the linear notes for the cd booklet this time

Yes! Or at least something professional, like the TIC liner notes. And I keep dreaming that WB will release official sales info so that we can all rest in peace! :asian:
