  1. Makes me think of this, on a larger scale :

The Deportation of the Acadians is the mass expropriation and deportation of the Acadians, a French-speaking people of North America, between 1755 and 1763. It took place on the eve of the British takeover of New France, during the Great Upheaval, and is often considered synonymous with it. Acadians were deported by the British, their homes and farms burned down, families separated (loss of contact between relatives, friends, spouses, children...). This deportation was one of the first large-scale ethnic cleansing operations, as the groups deported earlier had been smaller.

Of an estimated 14,100 Acadians, approximately 11,500 were deported, of whom 5,000 died of disease, starvation or shipwrecks. Their land was given to settlers loyal to Britain, mostly immigrants from New England and Scotland. The event is largely regarded as a crime against humanity, though the modern-day use of the term "genocide" is debated by scholars.

And as @Lolo said, where are the protests, the demonstrations in the U.S.? Not there, because the consequence of Trumps executive orders cannot be felt yet, except for so called illegal immigrants? It may be to late at some point.

In the meantime 100s of thousands of German people are on the street, making their voices heard that we don't want right-wing politics. And here, democracy actually worked because the law that was supposed to be passed, passed only with the help of the AfD, failed to get a majority in parliament. But we had to realize, that we cannot trust the Christian-Conservatives when it comes to policy making any longer. This time it may have been merely one law. But who knows, at some point they may seek a coalition with the AfD to form a government. But I am confident, if this ever happens, there will be a revolution.

Don’t forget that a lot of people in USA agree with Trump. Probably way more than we think. They secretly applaud the massive deportation. They secretly agree with any kind of tariffs. They want to see USA (sorry, I will never call it America, ever again) great again.
There are still a few states with common sense, but most of them are already lost to that "cause".

  3. There's an anti-USA vibe, in Canada, right now. No matter if you are from left or right, it's rising. There's a general feeling of misunderstanding: why attack your closest ally and long-time friend? It's incomprehensible.
A lot of boycott talks, too. Many people cancelled their travels or changed their plans to avoid crossing the border. A lot of "buy Canadian" discussion, too. Pretty sure most people will be careful on what they buy and make sure it's not a USA product.

In the end, everyone will lose. Inflation will rise, the value of our respective currencies will fall, our investments will collapse, thousands of jobs are at stake and it will take us both years to recover from this stupid decision.

This morning Trump said USA don't need anything from CANADA. They don't need our oil, our aluminium or our woods.
    Let me laugh.

Talking of indoctrination, two days ago they had a report on CNN (hardly watchable nowadays) about an elementary school in Texas and every morning teachers and students assemble at their sports hall or mensa and do the pledge of allegiance. Even worse, they were kind of enthusiastic about it. Not even the GDR went so far. I think to remember there was Fahnenappell twice a year and you had those morning greetings "Für Frieden und Sozialismus seid bereit ... Immer bereit" and "Freundschaft". But at least where I went to school, hardly anyone took that shit serious. People were playing alone (because we knew to be careful and not adress certain issues publicly) when we all thought "Yeah, right". Of course, the GDR and the FDR were never as patriotic as the U.S.. For obvious reasons, I suppose. Let's face it, the patriotsm (on its way to nationalism) in the U.S. has so many similarities to Nazi Germany. The amount of flags alone. People may think, it's just a flag. I think this is where the indoctrination starts. And what about those U.S.A. chants?

Contrary to the GDR, people in the U.S. still have their constitutional freedoms which protect them from persecution and punishment by their own government. They may use those freedoms to raise their voices publicly and demonstrate to fight back and save their democracy, as imperfect this democracy is. It may be too late at one point.

Evangelical lobbyists are so strong in USA and they are the one who do that kind of shit. They are completely brainwashed.
And worse, they have a lot of money so they have a lot of power.

I bet half of these orders he hasn’t even read because he is an uneducated imbecile and illiterate. Once his executive orders hit the most vulnerable people and yes this also includes many of his voters, it will be too late and they will suffer a great deal.

Nope. Fascists be doing fascist deeds.

They have no respect for anything : laws, history, allies…

I don't hate anyone, though I see so much hate in here, especially towards other artists. Actually there is more interaction in their threads than in Madonna's (and this is also for sure because of the lack of Madonna's activity in music for 6 years).

Anyway, here are the "gifts" from Biden/Harris administration: increasing prices with more than 20%, increasing inflation, families falling behind on bills, number of americans struggling to pay credit card bills has increased to the highest level for years, billions NOT millions spent for Ukraine and Israel, the pandemic handling (as an american citizen you had to show your vaccine paper when entering in a restaurant but there you had the border crisis with immigrants who had no identity, vaccine, etc.), increasing crimes on streets because of immigrants.

...and I'm sure I forgot other aspects.

Thanks for your answer! I understand better your point of view, now. I appreciate.
Doesn't mean I agree, but at least, I know where your opinion comes from, which is a good start ! Talking politics is a sensitive subject and the world, now, is so polarized, but I think it's important to hear what other people have to say.

And I totally agree with you : there's a lot of hate, that's why I rarely post in the princess section.

Really? You and other 2-3 members are doing this since last year when I said I wouldn't vote for the incompetent Kamala if I was an american citizen.

Just learn that in this life not everyone has to agree with everything you stand for: art, politics, religion, hobbies... neither to justify ourselves with arguments in front of others.

I remember asking you why you wouldn’t vote for Kamala and you refused to give me your reasons, just like you do, now.

We don’t have to agree with each other, thank God for that, but at least have some arguments to back up your words. At least we could understand why you think how you think. It has nothing to do with justifying yourself. You keep saying Kamala is incompetent, fair enough, but you never said why. Easy to say "I hate", but it’s way more difficult to say why.

I was under the impression that the banning of Tiktok is by the Supreme Court with the handy work of Biden...

It is but the work was started before, by Republicans. Both parties agreed that Tik Tok is a threat.

Carrie Underwood on decision to sing at Donald Trump’s inauguration:

Why do I want to vomit ?

If not for work/professional reasons, I would have committed Facebook suicide years ago. Now I’m locked out of my account… After a hacking incident in 2023, I was only able to log back in for three days before my computer rebooted and ended my session. I have not been able to log in successfully since then. I wanted to reset my password, but I can’t because the hackers changed it, so I don’t know what it is. Meta is completely unhelpful with this whole situation. Very frustrating. So … yeah. I would love to have nothing more to do with them. Just slightly unsettling to know that my account is still vulnerable out there and I have no access to it. I eventually had to open up another account (which is against their terms — to have more than one account) just to be able to do my job (serving as the administrator of the official FB presence for my work).

At one point, a Meta service bot told me they had reviewed my work’s ad account and said that their investigation revealed “no suspicious activity.” Meanwhile, they had required me to record and submit a video through a platform — it ended up being between 15 and 20 minutes, and to this day, no one ever watched it. Maddening. They have no incentive to crack down on actual crime — because it just makes them more money. The FBI agent with whom I spoke (because I was referred by the police, with whom I had to file a report) was very critical of Meta because of their lack of cooperation with law enforcement.

(I don’t have an app on my phone, either, pithy … I only use it on a computer/laptop through a web browser.)

    Sorry about that @peter !
A real nightmare, I can imagine.

  11. When Justin Trudeau, a Liberal, got elected 9 years ago, he promised he would reform our electoral system. He said he was inspired by Germany, @Raider of the lost Ark.
But after a few months, he broke his promise, saying no system is perfect and bla bla bla, so he decided he wouldn’t change anything. 👎🏼
The next election, in 2019, he lost his majority. Guess he regretted his decision.
