ryan
At least she made a list, and better yet, at least they didn't choose Like a Virgin. Don't get me wrong, I love the LAV album, but magazines like these always tends to pick that album because of the title track.
Guest Not4Pussies
any song on the first album still sounds fresh and relevant today. i mean daft punk's get lucky anyone?
Guest Rachelle of London
These lists are sooo stupid! Kanye Wests shitty shitfest of an album in the top 10 and Madonna no.
Barbie
Madonna won't be fully appreciated and respected until she kicks the bucket. Calm your tits.
HolidayGuy
^Um, she's had PLENTY of acclaim thus far. She's hardly starving for it. In the magazine, there are sketches. One page has "The Pop Icons"- Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Jay-Z, Madonna, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and Prince. The Madge sketch is of her circa-1983 look. Apples388
Who the fuck is Aretha Franklin? I mean, seriously, does anyone own that record? Fucktard list.
Larkspur
These lists are always men men men men men at the top and then woman. Then it's men men men, woman, men men men, woman and, then towards the end men woman woman woman. Like A Prayer is not in there? Ray of Light? How were they chosen? Madonna should have been higher. Her music does not receive the praise it deserves. It's like Rolling Stone when they put out there special issues of greatest artist of all time and out of 16 people on the cover not one is a woman. Women are still not 100% taken seriously. Rolling Stone only likes women who want to put down other women. kingvirtue
I would've thought Dolly Parton's Jolene (featuring "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You") would be a better choice than Coat of Many Colors.
kingvirtue
At least they did get it right by including Hole's Live Through This!
HolidayGuy
Larks- men always dominate these things. Been that way for years and years- and probably will continue to be. The Madonna album is fun and contains classics- but, I think it gets as much praise as it does more for its influence. I mean, it is NOT a better album than LAP, ROL and some of her others. But no denying that you can pretty much trace any dance-pop to come after it, back to the album. Cody- it did sound as if you meant that M was lacking in ACCLAIM- so, misunderstanding. She's done pretty well for someone categorized as a dance-pop act.
Guest Not4Pussies
remember when EW made the 100 greatest entertainers of all time list and madonna came in at #5 and some people were outraged she was considered so high
5iVe Elements
More than 1 M album should've been there. Like a Prayer. Ray of Light.
tek75
That Kanye album in the Top 10 is indeed a joke. And as good as Madonna (the album) was, no way should it be placed above Like a Prayer or Ray of Light.
Ivy
I think the list is ok ( minus LAP ) but just the order is out of whack. I never understood the appeal of Lauryn Hill. Found the album really cheap, played it and it has so many fillers with a couple of great songs. And praise Jesus, because they usually put shit like Rhiana, Brittney, Mariah, and Gaga on lists like this, respect!
San
The list as a whole doesn't bother me at all....it should say 'in America' though....I guess it's implied. And I prefer Madonna to LAP and ROL, so really it just boils down to personal opinion....and who really cares, right? One thing....Adele?
Elysium
That list is meaningless...just like the recent Forbes list...it's all based on fashion trends and acts being pushed/promoted...how else can you explain any Daft Punk album featuring in a popularity list? They would never have featured pre-2013 - ever.
Raf
One thing....Adele? IKR? Nothing against her, but come on... One question though. Was there EVER a list that we could've agree with? They are so subjective and there is no way to please everyone. I remember flipping through a book a long time ago "The 1001 albums you have to listen to before you die" or something like that. It was pretty cool seeing Madonna, LAV, LAP, ROL and even Music in it.
San
Her entire catalogue should just be listed as a single point.....you need them all to understand her as an artist. She is in very good company on that list. We should be proud.

Don't get me wrong, I love the LAV album, but magazines like these always tends to pick that album because of the title track. I agree. Despite the great singles on that album and it being one of hr highest sellers its by far one of her weakest. I think Like a Prayer and Ray of Light should be on this list too.
