Guest Rocco Papa Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Now that it's Christmas time I thought it would be appropriate to dedicate a thread to this song. I just love her version of this song. It's definitely my favorite rendition of it. The production is very Christmassy and evokes the right mood. Plus, her vocal interpretation of it is fantastic. The Betty Boop thing is genius. It gives it a classic and timeless feel.
ryan Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Isn't there a story behind this? Like she dreaded the thought of recording it or something?
madmark Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I love having it in my collection to play around the holidays of course, but I really love when it comes on the radio! Just heard it last week out and about.
IsaacHarris Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I simultaneously love & hate her singing voice in this. It's very "Darla" from Cat's Don't Dance
le smoking Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 She needs to add this to the setlist after Material Girl lol
Guest juliebean Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I love this song. I have a Christmas music soundtrack and this song is on it.
tasteinmen Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 No one I play it to believes it's Madonna.
Lucky Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I LOVE MADONNA'S VERSION OF SANTA BABY! I PLAYED IT OUR FAMILY CHRISTMAS PARTY SATURDAY NIGHT! IT CAME ON WHILE WE OPENED PRESENTS! VERY FUN! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
madmark Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Nikki Finn singing Been an awful good girl, Santa baby!
M.Dolla Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Basically everyone I know hates it because of her vocals, but I'm inclined to love because it's Madonna + Christmas and there's not another song!
Guest Rocco Papa Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 What makes it perfect is that it's the one Christmas song that truly suits her. I mean, I can't picture Madonna doing O Holy Night or Santa Claus Is Coming To Town!
James0479 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 It truly is the perfect Christmas song for Madonna and I love that radio still plays it during the holidays. I've always wanted to know exactly when she recorded this, what prompted it....just the story behind it. I've never once heard her speak on the song. It just appeared on the radio one Christmas season and stayed there. lol. At least, that's my memory.
Guest Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 My mom and I just sang this one together. So much fun. Think of all the fun I've missed Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed

It just appeared on the radio one Christmas season and stayed there. lol. At least, that's my memory. It was recorded for a charity album called A Very Special Christmas in 1987. Proceeds from the album benefited the Special Olympics. Many other artists appeared on the compilation like Stevie Nicks, U2, Bruce Springsteen, and Whitney Houston. There have been a lot of volumes in this series released since. The artwork was done by Keith Haring.
billiejean Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I luv it. It's fun and retro. Betty Boop indeed. Cyndi Lauper esque.
madgefan Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Not my favourite Christmas rendition if you ask me. I'm glad she never did others after this one
madmark Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Not my favourite Christmas rendition if you ask me. I'm glad she never did others after this one It's not like she'd sing every Christmas song like Nikki Finn, haha. I'd love to hear more from her, TBH. Not sure if she needs to do a Christmas album though. That seems pretty last resort or nothing-else-to-do kind of move for a lot of artists. Maybe someday though, something.

Cute song BUT, I hope she never does a Christmas album. Thankfully, I don't think she ever will.
Guest gang bang Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Madonna s versión is selling more on US iTunes now http://www.popvortex.com/music/charts/top-christmas-songs.php#chart-position-100
Guest Rocco Papa Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 A new version of Santa Baby sung by Out of the Blue, an all-male a cappella group at Oxford University. Not as good as Madonna's version though...
