it does seem very mysterious. he is such an icon. the master mix and kiss fm stuff. the nyc bathhouse djing in 70s. amazing creature.

My God. I hope not. I loved his work back in the day but the idea of her working with someone from 1992 does not excite me one bit.

wh? I mean afterall Daft Punk worked with Nile Rodgers and Get Lucky was #1 and multi grammys winner ...seriously...

Because he had 3 albums (erotica, Cathy Dennis, and Taylor Dayne) he produced all released around the same time, and all were either failures or considered a commercial disappointment.

I'm speculating, but when he was dropped from the Bedtime Stories project, and his remixes fell out of favor in the club scene, he most likely just retreated from music for awhile. I don't recall anything by him post Erotica era until Gary Barlow's version of Love Won't Wait was released. I could be wrong about that though.

Madonna had moved on, and so did I. :-)

I'd like to hear what they'd come up with today. If for no other reason than nostalgia.

I love Shep's work with Madonna, but I would rather she worked with someone new who's a fan of the old school house sound, who can infuse it with something new and fresh rather than work with someone who's been out of the scene for 20 years. Would be nice/fun if she dug up an old Shep production for the new album, or had him remix the single for her, but anything beyond that seems a little unrealistic and weird.

With 6 million sold Erotica is the biggest seller of Shep's career, the album may have been a low seller for Madonna standards, but it was his biggest

How did that hurt his career?

Even if you don't like Shep's production style (although I imagine it has evolved since 1992!), I think he and Madonna were a great songwriting team.

I'd love another record with Shep. That would be so left field on her part. I hope it's true but I think this "Stud" thing is a troll; and also I thought the whole "Secret" thing kind of killed their working relationship, no?

Maybe they made up? Maybe they had a meeting that delt with legal matters? Like Vogue or writing creds...

If that Facebook is real, well then he sure does have no hard feelings towards M.

What does he look like now? I remember him looking kinda cute in those Polaroids. But then he grew like a pervy porn stache. So groce. At least have the decency to brush off the cum stains.

For starters because the OTHER two albums he produced were NOT successful.

I have no idea for sure if his career was hurt by Erotica, and Madonna took most of the flack for it. However many copies it's sold as of today, at the time it was reported that it sold only 2 million copies, which was in fact a disappointment for a Madonna album. It is in my Top 3 albums by her, so it's not a Madonna or Shep bashing. I've always maintained that his remixes of her classics have become the standard for her performances of them today (not their original album versions)

Which says a lot for his timelessness in the House Music world.

Anyway, that's just my theory. It holds no factual merit.

Madryan, You are correct. It feels so strange saying it now but at the time Erotica was considered a flop by Madonna standards. That was of course also due to the dreaded "back-lash" that we as fans had to go through at that time. Today of course Erotica is considered a masterpiece as it should be. So many great songs, videos and images from that era. I think the fact that Erotica is now thought of so highly is testament to Madonna herself. She still delivered the goods even if it took a while for some people to cotton on to that.

^ it only sold 2 million in the US but it sold about 5 million worldwide by the end of '93, when The Girlie Show wrapped up.

An additional 1 million since then.

Maybe they rekindled their relation because of the Vogue lawsuit last year.

William posts a lot on Madonna too. Maybe it's just that her past collaborators are fanboys like us and miss her. Must be hard to hear and read people bash someone you worked with so closely and know exactly what this person is worth especially when the comments are made by people who have no idea of what they are talking about. It's something Nile Rodgers and Mirwais have in common with them too. they always bring up how frustrated they feel when they hear what pople say about Madonna's talent.

Personally, I see no convincing reasons (nor any evidence) why Madonna would go back to working with him and I hope neither does Madonna. IF she rekindles former collaborations, there's a list of people I'd prefer over Shep: Pat, Joe, Pharell, even Steve.

Even more interesting to me would be new collaborators like Brian Eno or Dev Hynes.

Well for COAD it was all about "K meetings"

MDNA was all "gym meetings"

And this era, it's all "airport meetings" featuring sit downs at PF Changs

True. But I don't imagine Shep sharing production with some current hip producer. Honestly, unless we hear something he's done recently I suppose we don't know what to expect. But the fact he hasn't done anything in a long long time says a lot.

I am truly not a fan of her going back and working with producers from years ago. It's just so unMadonna.

So. William Orbit goes back to the early/mid 90s, Ray of Light 1997... and MDNA was just 2012.

Nile Rodgers and Daft Punk just sweeped the Grammys ... and they aren't "young"...

The past year kind of showed 'old-school' is in if done right.

There's a big difference between Madonna and Daft Punk. For starters, they are producers not pop stars. I want to see Madonna do new things she hasn't done before. Remember her whole mantra of "I don't like to repeat myself."

IF she did work with Shep id hope it would be to create something completely new/unique. I'm not going to deny I enjoyed 'I'm a Sinner' but it was a little too 'Beautiful Stranger/Amazing etc' sounding for me. 'I'm Addicted' and 'Gang Bang' on the other hand were fantastic and fresh sounding. I think an artist like Madonna needs to do something fresh and modern, not rehash old territory of hers.

I'm not being a MDNA hater but I don't want anything that feels forced or rushed, idk I'll be happy with anything she has been going to alot of hip-hop shows recently

We all don't want a repeat of the last record. That's how it's always been. I think American Life was the only exception, I don't recall any complains at the time when she said she was going to continue the sound from Music. But I was 12/13 at the time so I don't really remember...

The difference between Madonna and Daft Punk is not that big. There are as much artists/performers/musicians themselves as any other artist...or Random Access Memories would simply be a Pharrel album. They are front and center. They are the stars.

Who said anything about "rehashing old territory" or "repeating herself"? Yes, MDNA has a few classic Orbit elements to it, but overall his work there is pretty fresh. Certainly not a rehash of Ray of Light or Music.

Going back and working with older songwriters, producers, etc. is not completely a new thing for her. Sure, it's not what she is known for. But who said it had to sound like 1990? I have no clue what Shep's work sounds like right now...but just because one works with older collaborators does not = "we're going to do the same thing we did before". Certainly not Madonna... nor did DP, Nile, or Pharrel do such a thing with RAM. It was fresh, yet a bit familiar.

I think some folks are talking it all a little too literally.
