MaddysMuff
where do you find this shyt mattress> fantastic!!! --- does anyone else love the slow grooviness of dont stop? i know its the one that usually gets worst song. You know, I used to hate how 'sluggish' it sounds, but I love it now. It's this nice, cool track to chill to.
MaddysMuff
oh, i love love wont wait. very madonna. the bridge, the chorus, the singing style, the background vocals... I hadn't listened to it in years until I saw Ursa's post... I heard the first 30 and cringed. I'll give it another listen. After all, you are the one who got me to ADORE "Can't Stop". MaddysMuff
Well at the time of these posts there were only around 500 websites. That's all. I think a lot of people probably learned about the internet through Warner Bros. early online efforts. They would get the brief mention on MTV news, and then they featured Madonna's page at the end of a big History Of Rock 'N' Roll documentary event in '94/'95. E-mail addresses (mostly AOL) and website addresses began appearing as part of album credits in 1995 and picked up throughout 1996... during this time they started manufacturing CD-roms with videos and wallpapers and this evolved into enhanced CDs/singles. It just kept growing and growing but it hit a new peak around 1998-1999 which is when computers became a little more affordable and AOL really put push behind their online services... remember all of the 2.0 crap? You are so talented, Mattress. I love the tour poster. This bitch needs to hire your ass for various projects! I think in this day and age, artists need to start extending a hand to the fans... much of the time they do it better than the 'professionals' that do a half assed job. Guest ursaminorjim
It would've made a perfect hidden final track after, say, three minutes of silence follwing the end of "Take a bow." It's definitely of the album, but I can't think of how it'd sit within the album with such a consciously retro sound. That make any sense?

ryan
I dont really like Love Won't Wait, it's just a demo. I prob would think more of it if there was a finished take of it. I do really like her vocals and the lyrics, but everything else, it just doesnt grab me. I'd much rather hear the other Shep stuff, that interest's more! acko
Don't Stop also has that retro Philly soul early disco Love Unlimited Orchestra sound that Love Won't Wait has I love the 'Don't stop' groove..& the vocal harmonies r just .. I used 2 have this function on my old JVC stereo where all background elements where brought 2 the fore.. Don't Stop was very interesting when played like this..it's even more layered than u'd suspect... But upon 1st listen I felt it sounded kinda dated..it has a bit of a Janice swing vibe... I could definitely hear her do it 4 the 'Janet' album... & it might just b a wee bit 2 sugary..like it actually misses a verse where she'd rhyme 'dance' with 'romance' Plus it has that 'repetitive' element like most of the uptempo BS tracks...including 'Your Honesty' The track also should have had a slightly longer instrumental outro.. But I like it a lot...

Guest ursaminorjim
"Don't stop" is fine, but that wry little synth-horn trill just makes me wince. And the Soul II Soul shuffle beat was a little...five years late. I'd say it's trapped in its production. "I'd rather be your lover" is terrific, though. Those harmonies! Mattress
I'm in a hurry right now, but you can wire almost any stereo to produce this effect, or use an audio file editor to simulate it. What it's doing is cancelling out sounds that fall dead center in a stereo recording, leaving you with only what falls far left and far right in the mix. Here is Don't Stop - Full Length Isolated Center Channel: http://www.mediafire.com/?zftifjmmkkn My favorite from Bedtime Stories using this effect is I'd Rather Be Your Lover. It basically becomes an http://www.mediafire.com/?zmyjzmmd0yz I'll go through some of her stuff later and find the better ones to give examples. Here are snippets of the three off of the top of my head that produce interesting results: Into The Groove (low harmony bridge followed by high harmony secondary chorus ) http://www.mediafire.com/?rydymzmqnn5 Nothing Really Matters (you don't even notice the "bobbling" synth/bass in the full mix, and the end harmonies sound lovely) http://www.mediafire.com/?1otmiznmt30 Candy Perfume Girl (all minimalistic like, losing the guitar and bringing the lead vocal to the fore of the mix) http://www.mediafire.com/?qrnmgimyymj

ryan
you can do the same effect for Fighting Spirits, and it basically turns into an acapella. I could easily get this effect by playing a CD (usually the original CD, not a burned CD where the songs are 128 kpbs) on a disc man (yea, remember those?) and plugging the headphones in half-way. It's really interesting to hear it like this throughout the ROL album.

Very weird, because I'm hear some TLC vocals there, the "I know I can groove you" part especially, it's as if T-Boz sang backing vocals for Madonna! ryan
Plus it has that 'repetitive' element like most of the uptempo BS tracks...including 'Your Honesty' i think i know what sound/element your talking about. You can strongly hear it at the end of Your Honesty. It also appears in Forbidden Love, you can pretty much hear it throughout the album. This beat/sound/element can be heard in alot of rap and rnb songs from that era.
