thebigham
HITS: YOUR WEAKEND TOP 10 PREVIEW: Four debuts, and maybe five, are headed for next week’s leader board, led by Rise Against (Geffen/Interscope) with a projected 70-75k. That total appears to be enough for a #2 finish behind reigning champ TI (Grand Hustle/Atlantic), who has enough momentum to wind up with another 175-200k in week two. Then we’ve got #3 Jennifer Hudson (Arista/RMG) with 65-70k, #4 Metallica (Warner Bros.) with 60-65k, Oasis’ first for Warner Bros. bowing at #5 with 55-60k and #6 Ne-Yo (Def Jam/IDJ) with 50-55k. The next five slots are up for grabs, with three debuts—a Bob Dylan Bootleg Series set (Columbia/Legacy), a best-of from Tim McGraw (Curb) and a hits collection from Sarah McLachlin (Arista/RMG)—all trending toward 40-45k, as are Kid Rock (Atlantic) and Robin Thicke (Star Trak/Interscope). You may now return to averting your eyes from the CNBC stock ticker. 1) T.I 175 - 200K 2) Rise Against 70 - 75K 3) J-Hud 65 - 70K 4) Metallica 60 - 65K 5) Oasis 55 - 60 6) Ne-Yo 50 - 55K Bob Dylan, Tim McGraw, Sarah McLachlin, Kid Rock, Robin Thicke - 40 45K

thebigham
Billboard.com: T.I. Begins Second Week Atop Billboard 200 October 15, 2008 by Katie Hasty, N.Y. Despite a 69% drop-off in sales, T.I. starts a second week at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 with "Paper Trail." The Grand Hustle/Atlantic set sold 177,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, after debuting last week with 568,000. Metallica's Warner Bros. album "Death Magnetic" climbs back up 5-2 despite a 24% sales slide to 66,000. With a career-high for charting and sales, Rise Against's "Appeal to Reason" debuts at No. 3 with 65,000. The rock act's last set, 2006's "The Sufferer and the Witness," bowed at No. 10 with 48,000. Current single "Re-Education (Through Labor)" is No. 4 on the Modern Rock chart this week, the act's highest charting single yet. With 63,000 copies, Jennifer Hudson's self-titled Arista debut falls 2-4 on a 71% sales decrease to 63,000. Veteran British rock act Oasis scores its first top 10 set since 1997, as "Dig Out Your Soul" (Big Brother/Warner Bros) debuts at No. 5, moving 53,000. The band's last studio set, 2005's "Don't Believe the Truth," began at No. 12 but with a larger opening sales week of 65,000. Oasis last reached the top tier when 1997's "Be Here Now" debuted and peaked at No. 2 with 152,000. Bob Dylan notches his 17th top 10 album -- and 50th charting set overall -- on The Billboard 200 as the triple-disc Columbia collection "The Bootleg Series Vol. 8 -- Tell Tale Signs: Rare and Unreleased, 1989-2006" debuts at No. 6 with 50,000. This is the best chart position for any album in the "Bootleg" series. Staying put at No. 7 for a third week straight, Kid Rock's "Rock N Roll Jesus" (Top Dog/Atlantic) moves 48,000 (-15%) in its 53rd week on the chart. Ne-Yo's "Year of the Gentleman" (Def Jam) continues its decline, falling 6-8 with 47,000 (-33%). Selling 44,000 copies, Tim McGraw's "Greatest Hits 3" (Curb) debuts at No. 9 on The Billboard 200 and No. 1 on Top Country Albums. The success comes despite McGraw denouncing the project in a press release yesterday. James Taylor's "Covers" (Starcon/Hear Music) closes out the top 10 on the 200, as the set slips 4-10 on a 54% sales hit to 44,000. With 40,000, Sarah McLachlan's "Closer: The Best of Sarah McLachlan" bows at No. 11. The 16-track hits set contains two new songs and was released both as a single-disc version and a two-CD deluxe package. Other debuts this week include Senses Fail's "Life Is Not a Waiting Room" (Vagrant, No. 18, 24,000), Marco Antonia Solis' "No Molestar" (Fonovisa, No. 19, 23,000), the Pretenders' "Break Up the Concrete" (Artist First, No. 32, 16,000) and Tesla's "Forever More" (Tesla Electric Company, No. 33, 16,000). At 6.41 million units, sales this week are down 14.5% from last week's sum and down a 23.1% from the same week last year.

Guest nothingfails0603
why is radio so Britney-phobic? It never made sense why radio has always been so hard on her when she was obviously well-loved by consumers. I have always been critical of her and never thought she was all that, but her hits never got half what an average Rihanna or Beyonce song would get in terms of audience impressions, never mind the fact that her first album alone (and second, and maybe even third) sold more than Rihanna's entire discography times two. Same with Beyonce, she's big but she never was as over-the-top as Britney in terms of sales, so why doesn't radio love her the same way as they do Beyonce and Rihanna? What is so funny is that the music industry has changed so much in the past ten years that Britney going 9 1/2 years between #1 singles is about the same as Cher going 25 years between #1's from 74 to 99. fak
Im glad Womanizers no1 - its much better than most of the shit on the hot 100. This is all good publicity for her. her AUI are low though - I too dont understand why Radio wont play Britney. if you look at singles stats then Xtina is much bigger than Britney but when it comes to album sales.....Xtina has no chance even ig you ignore the fact that Britney is 2 studio albums ahead. It is because Britney has nt delved into hip-hop as much as say Xtina has who has done all these deuts and featuring with RnB/Hip-hop artists or the fact that Britney has never been a strong live performer? By the way all this publicity and her going to no1 will this raise britneys radio play? If an ignored song suddenly hits no1 in the UK it will get quite a lo tof publicity and on top of that it will feature heavily on chart re-caps on radio shows. The best example i can give is Shakira Hips Dont Lie a song that Radio1 refused to play even though it was no1 for multiple weeks. However, they had to play it on the Top 40 Radio chart show and any chart re-cap analysis or even trailers for the next programme. In a way Shakira is a bad example because the song was huge without radio 1 but their ban could not be practised fully and always. For Womaniser, a song with lowish airplay at the moment do we expect to see a big boost in airplay now she is the no1? Do theyhave chart recaps and analysis segments on USA radio stattions? fak
If you compare Britney to Xtina and you could see singles stats wise Xtina is so much bigger but when it comes to albums Xtina is the one who is much smaller. I think Britney has to prove herself as a credible live performer and none of that lip-synch shit. Rihanna, Xtina,, Madonna, Kylie, Janet, Mariah have all proven their point that they can use their vocals live quite regularly. It is hard for artists like Madonna and Kylie to win respect because they dont have great voices yet they are still out there because they have that talent inside them. Some of them may not be great singers but its the effort that counts. I think Britneys music is quite good but in a studio anything can be done but live you can only perform as you are. why is radio so Britney-phobic?
