HITS:

YOUR TOP-HEAVY WEAKEND CHART REVIEW: The best piece of news as we head into the weekend is that sales on the J/Syco/RMG debut album from Leona Lewis are running above expectations (and how often have you read that in the last few years?). Clive’s latest diva is projecting 195-205k, a total that will tower over the rest of the pack.

Here’s how things look right now: #2: George Strait (MCA Nashville), 60-65k; #3: James Otto (WB), 55-60k; #4: Now 27 (SBMG), 45-50k; #5: P.O.D. (Integrity/Columbia) 35-40k; #6: Alvin & the Chipmunks (Razor & Tie), 35-40k; #7: Rick Ross (Def Jam/IDJ), 30-35k; and #8: R.E.M. (WB), 30-35k.

As for the final two slots, a half-dozen albums are trending toward the 25-30k neighborhood: Bad Boy/Atlantic’s Danity Kane, Bushfire/Universal Republic’s Jack Johnson, Fueled by Ramen’s Panic at the Disco, Bad Boy/Atlantic’s Day26, Nine Inch Nails and Koch Urban’s Ray J. (4/11a)

Hits will have a prediction for Mariah today.

Don't they usually have the next week prediction on Wednesday?

I really wonder what Mariah can muster up. I say she's got a ceiling of 560,000 copies.

You're right! I'm sorry -- people have been talking about it so much I actually thought the album came out yesterday, when in reality stores in the US have been open for about one hour total.

there's a glitch in the HITS site... in their upcoming releases section it has an APRIL 20 release date... it lists 5 albums with DEF LEPPARD and MADONNA in it... and MADONNA also has an entry in APRIL 29... any explanation aside from it's just a glitch?

Good numbers for Leona.

As for Mimi, anything under 500K would be very disappointing. ByeBye is not a good choice for the second single though and I think she'll fuck up her Idol performance. But I'll be positive and say 650K.

She has the perfect storm of publicity. Its going to be HUGE. There is nothing she can do to fuck this up even if she gives a bad performance tomorrow.

Her marketing campaign has been impressive.
