scrapple Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Some of ou are really dumb. Do you really think that Madonna can go up from Confessions this time of year? Someone even said 500000 first week LOLOLOOLLLLLLLLL!!! I wouldnt be suprised if she pull numbers like AL, i mean she was promoting like hell then and couldnt get any more. I HAVE SAID IT 100 TIMES ALREADY. SPRING = BAD SALES! (ESP LATE SPRING) we'll see!
scrapple Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Then why did Norah Jones do 400k in late January?? because it's not late spring!
thebigham Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 USAToday.com: Chris Brown will be 'With You' for months Thanks to another surge in total listeners, plus a sizable drop for the nearest competition, Chris Brown's With You opens up a massive lead on the national radio airplay audience chart, holding the No. 1 spot for the second week and setting up what should be a long reign at the top (unless Mariah Carey has something to say about it). Flo Rida's Low stays at No. 2 but loses 10 million listeners for the week. Rihanna's Don't Stop the Music leaps from No. 6 to No. 3, displacing Alicia Keys' No One, Timbaland & OneRepublic's Apologize and Keys' Like You'll Never See Me Again, all of which drop a notch. Snoop Dogg's Sensual Seduction remains at No. 7, followed by the top 10 debuts of Carey's red-hot Touch My Body and Sara Bareilles' slow-burning Love Song. Webbie's Independent rounds out the group. All the gory details follow. > The annotated top 10 of the Hot 100 Airplay chart: 1-1 last week Chris Brown, With You (up 4.3% in total audience): Only Mariah (or maybe Usher) can stop him, and that's weeks away from becoming a danger. 2-2 Flo Rida, Low (-7.3%): The tide of airplay finally starts receding, but it's probably got a couple more weeks at No. 2 until Rihanna or a newer hit can gather more audience. Right now it's a gap of 42 million between Flo Rida and Rihanna. 3-6 Rihanna, Don't Stop the Music (+5.6%): Great jump on the chart, but it was facilitated in part by substantial drops for the three songs ahead of it. Check to see if it slows down next week or remains a threat to hit No. 2. 4-3 Alicia Keys, No One (-6.4%): Last week's drop was 8.2%, so it arrested its decline a little, but further (and farther) chart drops are inevitable. 5-4 Timbaland & OneRepublic, Apologize (-6.7%): After half a year on the chart, finally a substantial decline, but this song's got nothing to 'pologize for. 6-5 Alicia Keys, Like You'll Never See Me Again (-5.9%): Now in a race with its predecessor to see which falls faster. 7-7 Snoop Dogg, Sensual Seduction (-4.4%): Ready for a fall. 8-13 Mariah Carey, Touch My Body (+24.5%): Somehow, my negative opinion about this one hasn't stopped it from zooming into the top 10 in a remarkable three weeks. (That was sarcasm, by the way -- the "somehow" part, anyway.) I'd peg it for a jump to No. 4 next week, since it's roaring along and the four songs ahead of it are all dropping. Then sky's the limit, unless Usher proves to be even more unstoppable. 9-11 Sara Bareilles, Love Song (+13.6%): A long, slow build for this project pays off with a top 10 slot, and likely more growth to come. 10-10 Webbie, Independent (+5.6%): Jumped by Mariah and Sara this week, but still viable. > Next week's top 10 contenders: There is no doubt that Usher's Love in This Club will hit the top 10 next week; the question is where. It jumped 21-12 in its third week, with a stunning 36% audience gain, and has a shot at jumping straight into the top 5. Clearly Mariah's main rival for a future No. 1 berth. Otherwise, Lupe Fiasco's Superstar still has hope, despite a 16-16 move, thanks to its 6.5% increase in audience. And Ray J's Sexy Can I is up 29-18 with a 24.2% gain. > This week's hottest songs: You've read about Usher, Mariah and Ray J. Also hot are 2 Pistols' She Got It (+28.7%, 92-73 in its third week), and three country songs: Taylor Swift's Picture to Burn (+26.3%, 80-64 in week #2), Trace Adkins' You're Gonna Miss This (+22.4%, 56-43 in week #5), and James Otto's Just Got Started Lovin' You (+21.8%, 86-72 in its second week). > This week's debuts on the top 100: Rick Ross' The Boss (likely no relation to Diana Ross' The Boss from the '70s) is the top debut at No. 89. The Jonas Brothers' When You Look Me in the Eyes comes in at 92, and rounding out the chart are Juanes' Gotas de Agua Dulce (Drops of Sweet Water for anglophones) at 98, Puddle of Mudd's Psycho (no relation to the great Sonics song of the same name) at 99 and Lady Antebellum's Love Don't Live Here at 100.
doctorjosh Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I really hope MC misses the top with this one. It's just ridiculous that a slightly sped up version of WBT gives her another No.1!
doctorjosh Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Final... JANET JACKSON DEF JAM/IDJMG 178,010 -- DISCIPLINE I wonder if BB's numbers will be higher or lower. As for Feedback, I wonder if it will break the top 50 this week.
doctorjosh Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 ^Feedback might be Top 40 this week. Is it doing better on Itunes because of the availability of remixes or she actually promoting the song more?
HolidayGuy Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Janet did her usual release-week media blitz/promo, so that- along with that ad using "Feedback"- have helped its sales. It should go top 40 with little problem this week.

thebigham Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Billboard.com: Janet Dethrones Jack To Top Billboard 200 March 05, 2008 by Katie Hasty, N.Y. Dislodging Jack Johnson from the top after a three-week reign, Janet Jackson's "Discipline" bows at No. 1 on The Billboard 200. The Island Def Jam set moved 181,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen Soundscan, becoming the artist's sixth chart-topper. Her last two Virgin albums, 2004's "Damita Jo" and 2006's "20 Y.O.," both debuted and peaked at No. 2, though "Damita" started with 381,000 while "20 Y.O." began with 296,000. Johnson's "Sleep Through the Static" (Brushfire) falls 1-3 with 92,000, a 12% sales decline. "4th World War," the first half of Erykah Badu's double album series "New Amerykah," debuts at No. 2, selling 124,000 copies. It's the R&B singer's first studio effort since 2003's "Worldwide Underground," an EP that began at No. 3 with 144,000. The second, as-yet-untitled portion "New Amerykah" is due some time this summer via Universal Motown. Rapper Webbie's "Savage Life 2" (Asylum/Trill Entertainment) starts at No. 4 after selling 72,000. Sales were helped in part by the track "Independent," performed with Lil' Phat and Boosie, which is steadily rising on the Hot 100. Webbie's last solo effort, "Savage Life," debuted at No. 8 in 2005 with 68,000. Despite an 8% sales increase, Alicia Keys' "As I Am" (J) slips 2-5 with 57,000. Miley Cyrus' Disney double-disc "Hannah Montana 2 (Soundtrack)/Meet Miley Cyrus" experiences an 86% sales boost, propelling the effort 14-6 with 54,000. The young singer was recently featured on Barbara Walters' Oscar night interview special on ABC. Speaking of Oscars, two Academy Award-winning titles are also featured in the top 10. With music from the Frames' Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, the Canvasback/Sony Music Soundtrax soundtrack to "Once" climbs 31-7 with 47,000 (+142%), after the duo won the best original song Oscar. The Rhino soundtrack to "Juno" falls 6-8 with 42,000, a 10% increase. Sara Bareilles' Epic album "Little Voice" is down 7-9 with 37,000 (+1%), while Amy Winehouse's Universal Republic set "Back to Black" slips 3-10, also with 37,000 (-27%). Debuting at No. 13, D4L member Shawty Lo's solo debut, "Units in the City" (Asylum), shifts 31,000. Dolly Parton's "Backwoods Barbie" starts at No. 17, the country legend's highest debut ever. Released through her own Dolly Records label, the new project shifted 27,000 units in its first week. Other debuts this week include the original Broadway cast recording of "Disney's The Little Mermaid" at No. 26 with 20,000, the Afters' "Never Going Back to OK" (INO/Columbia) at No. 41 with 16,000 and Goldfrapp's Mute set "Seventh Tree" at No. 48 with 15,000. Sales this week are down less than 1% from last week at 7.95 million units and down 6.4% from the same week last year.
HolidayGuy Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I didn't think JJ would open with less than 200K- sales are down in general, but still disappointing. Badu's opening was just 20K off from her last start. And good for that Backwoods Barbie.
SexPistol Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_dis...aec7f263da73df4 For the sixth time in her career, Janet Jackson earns a No. 1 album on The Billboard 200, as "Discipline" debuts with 181,000. She's now in second place among female artists for the most No. 1 albums (tied with Madonna) behind Barbra Streisand's eight chart-toppers.
Lucy Goosie Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I didn't think JJ would open with less than 200K- sales are down in general, but still disappointing. Badu's opening was just 20K off from her last start. And good for that Backwoods Barbie. It is a great debut for Dolly. Having her own label seems to have paid off big time for her. Such a shame that radio won't play her as they cosider her too old.

thebigham Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Usher's Newest Single Dominates U.S. Charts: Superstar's Smash Hit 'Love In This Club' Skyrockets From #51* to #1* on Billboard's Pop Singles Chart and is the Best-Selling Digital Song in the Country Wednesday March 5, 10:44 am ET Fifth Studio Album Titled 'Here I Stand' Scheduled for Worldwide Release in June '08 NEW YORK, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Fans of LaFace/Zomba recording artist Usher are embracing the multi-talented superstar's newest song, "Love In This Club." It is the No. 1 song in the country making an astonishing leap from #51* to the No. 1* position on Billboard's "Hot 100 Singles" chart. "Love In This Club" also claims the No. 1 spot on SoundScan's digital tracks and iTunes tracks charts during the first week of its release. This accomplishment marks Usher's eighth No. 1 single in the United States. "Love In This Club," featuring Young Jeezy, co-written by Usher and produced by Polow Da Don is also being well-received by music critics; Entertainment Weekly calls it a "Must" listen, proclaiming that Usher "returns with his magnetic club groove." "Love In This Club" is the first single from his eagerly-awaited fifth studio album titled Here I Stand, slated for worldwide release this June. Here I Stand is Usher's follow-up to his history-making, 9x platinum-selling Confessions. Within the first week of the release of Confessions, Usher sold more than any other R&B artist in the history of SoundScan. The album spawned four #1 hit singles and Usher spent 40 weeks in the No. 1 position on The Billboard Hot 100 -- which is more than any other male artist in the nearly 50 year history of the chart. The multi-talented, five-time Grammy-winner, musician and actor has sold nearly 14 million copies of Confessions worldwide and it earned a multitude of honors including MTV, BET, and People's Choice awards. Over the span of his 14-year career, Usher has sold close to 26 million albums worldwide and combining all of his single, album and DVD sales, he's sold in excess of 36 million units globally. With four studio albums, the eponymous first release, Usher (1994) and multi-platinum albums, the 6x-platinum My Way (1997),the 4x-platinum 8701 (2001), and the 9x-platinum Confessions (2004) and one gold-certified live album simply titled Live (1999), and a string of #1 hit singles including "U Remind Me," "U Got It Bad," "Yeah," "Burn," and "My Boo" Usher's return to the top of the charts is inevitable. The Tennessee-born, Atlanta raised performer, songwriter, producer, dancer, actor started his multi-faceted career at the age of 15-years old. Usher Raymond IV has achieved what few other contemporary entertainers have ever accomplished. He most recently launched a successful line of signature fragrances, actively heads up his own charity, New Look Foundation, a camp for teens that teaches them about the entertainment business, and he is part owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team. He is currently gearing up to promote his forthcoming album.
thebigham Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Next week: HITS: COUNTRY COMFORTS RETAIL: JACKSON RULES Universal Motown’s Michael McDonald, Flogging Molly, Black Crowes Up Next March 5, 2008 It may not be a Good Time for the record industry, but it sure is one for country veteran Alan Jackson. That’s the word from beleaguered retailers around the country reporting first-day sales as they confirm that the country star’s new Arista Nashville album—yup, it’s called Good Time—will debut at #1 on next week’s HITS chart, with a total that should top 100k. If only his wife would let him celebrate. That’ll make Jackson the only artist to hit six figures as the biz limps toward the highly anticipated April 15 release date for Mariah Carey’s IDJ effort E=MC2. Last week’s topper, fellow L.A Reid diva Janet Jackson, finds herself in a tight fight with Brushfire/Universal Republic’s Jack Johnson for #2, each with between 65-70k in sales. Universal Motown’s second collection of Michael McDonald covers, Soul Speak, looks headed for between 30-35k, but with its upper-demo audience could trend more later in the week. Three of the songs, “Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher” (A/C), “Love T.K.O.” (Adult R&B) and “Walk on By” (Hot Contemporary Jazz)” have already charted. Other debuts include SideOneDummy veteran Irish punks Flogging Molly (who appeared on The Departed soundtrack) with Float, and Black Crowes’ Warpaint, their first new studio album in seven years, and subject of media controversy when Maxim published a review of the album from a critic who never listened to it. The disc is being released on their own Silver Arrow label. Both are expected to score in the 30-35k range as well. The market was flat vs. last week, down 6% vs. same week last year and currently down 12% year-to-date. We now return you to your regularly scheduled web-surfing.
thebigham Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Per BDS, here's how the battle of the massive hits will look this week on Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay chart: Mariah - No. 8 (from 12) 76,061,000 (+14.1 million) Usher - No. 10 (from 15) 70,992,100 (+17.5 million) bks from Pusle.
