thebigham
HITS: YOUR WEAKEND TOP 10 PREVIEW: Next week’s album chart will be less depressing than this week’s—at least until you get past #1. That honor will belong to the debuting Carrie Underwood (RCA), whose second album is poised to hit 475-490k. The bad news is that the Idol diva looks like she’ll be the only act in six figures. That’s not to say the 80-85k we’re projecting for the terrific, T Bone-Burnett produced album from Robert Plant & Alison Krauss (Rounder) isn’t impressive on its own terms. The next three spots should also be held by debuts, with Gary Allan (MCA Nashville) strumming his way toward 70-75k, SOAD’s Serj Tankian (WB) targeting 65-70k and the critically acclaimed Coheed & Cambria (Columbia) rocking toward 60-65k. The second five should comprise the usual suspects: Rascal Flatts (Lyric Street), High School Musical 2 (Disney), Josh Groban (Reprise) and Kid Rock (Atlantic) all trending 55-60k, with Bruce Springsteen (Columbia) and the debuting Seether (Wind-up) right behind them at 50-55k. That said, we’ll be shocked if the numbers don’t change over the weekend. (10/26a)

Ciccone's Cheeks
what are the predictions for Brit next week?? My gut feeling is shell obviously hit #1 (pending on NO new competition) as Carrie should slip to below 250k, and Brit has enough of a crazed fanbase to give her at least 300k. Even with brutally negative publicity,VMAs etc.. she still put out a "decent" 1st single and from what I read generally positive reviews, but again its her fanbase which surely should give her #1. Anything standing in her way I don't know??????

HolidayGuy
"Decent" first single? Showly you jest, MM. She's had a few decent ones, some other listenable ones, but there just ain't much in the way of musical intrigue with this Louisiana hot mess. Furthermore, it didn't even match the H100 Airplay peak of "Hung Up." Yowch. No doubt it will debut on top, but doesn't look like an album that will be hanging around the upper region of the albums chart for that long. No doubt it will debut on top, but doesn't look like an album that will be hanging around the upper region of the albums chart for that long. yea, I think it'll debut very well because of her fanbase and people buying out of curiousity, but I think it'll have the shortest shelf life of any of her albums. I know she's got all the troubles going on right now, but she could try to go on Oprah, Letterman, Ellen, whoever, and plug the album, but she's not. The album will come and go really quickly unless she tries to put some sort of promotion into it. Being in the news doesn't automatically sell albums, as we saw with Paris Hilton. thebigham
Billboard.com: Underwood Leads Three Country Debuts Onto Chart October 31, 2007 by Katie Hasty, N.Y. In a Billboard 200 first, three country debuts occupy the Nos. 1-3 slots on the chart, led by Carrie Underwood's "Carnival Ride." The 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville set sold 527,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, earning the artist her first No. 1. The total is a much better sum than the 315,000 that greeted her No. 2 2005 debut "Some Hearts." It's also the best sales week for a female solo country artist since Shania Twain's "Greatest Hits" started with 530,000 in November 2004. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' "Raising Sand" (Rounder) opens at No. 2, selling 112,000. It's the highest charting album for both as solo artists and Krauss' first time in the top 10. Country singer Gary Allan's MCA Nashville set "Living Hard" enters at No. 3 with 69,000. It's not his first trip into the top five this year, however: his "Greatest Hits" debuted at No. 5 in March. "Tough All Over," his album from 2005, also achieved a No. 3 entry. System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian's solo debut, "Elect the Dead" (Serjical Strike/Reprise) also bows with 69,000, a couple hundred short of Allen's sum, at No. 4. SOAD's last album, 2005's "Hypnotize," bowed at No. 1 with 320,000. Josh Groban's holiday album "Noel" (143/Reprise) slips 4-5 with 65,000, a 2% sales increase. Moving 62,000, rock act Coheed & Cambria's "No World for Tomorrow" (Columbia) starts at No. 6, a charting best. The group's 2005 album, "Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV," debuted at No. 7, but moved 84,000 in its first week. Kid Rock's Top Dog/Atlantic set, "Rock N Roll Jesus," falls 2-7 with 61,000 (-21%), while Rascal Flatts' Lyric Street album "Still Feels Good" descends 3-8 with 57,000 (-19%). Rock combo Seether's "Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces" (Wind-Up) bows at No. 9 with 57,000. The band's last studio set, 2005's "Karma and Effect," entered at No. 8 with 82,000. Disney's soundtrack to "High School Musical 2" rounds out the top tier, slipping 7-10 with 57,000 (-1%). Neil Young's Reprise set "Chrome Dreams II" drives in at No. 11 with 54,000. Young impacted the top 10 earlier this year with "Live at Massey Hall 1971," which bowed at No. 6. His last studio set, 2006's "Living with War," entered at No. 15 with 60,000. Latin artist Juanes starts at No. 13 with "La Vida ... Es Un Ratico." The Universal Latino album moved 47,000, which bests the No. 33/34,000 start of 2004's "Mi Sangre." Other big chart debuts this week include Hurricane Chris' "51/50 Ratchet" (J) at No. 24 with 26,000, rock act Say Anything's "In Defense of the Genre" (J) at No. 27 with 25,000 and Ryan Adams & the Cardinals' "Follow the Lights" EP (Lost Highway) at No. 40 with 19,000. Album sales are up 5.2% from last week at 8.34 million units and down 16.8% from the same week in 2006 (10.03 million).

thebigham
HITS: Britney Spears’ Blackout album will debut on next week’s HITS chart at #1, with an impressive total that could threaten 400k. As it is, the beleaguered grown-up teen diva looks on target to sell between 350-380k, which ain’t bad at all. Gimme more indeed. Eat your heart out, Perez Hilton. For ZLG’s Barry Weiss, next week’s chart will be a treat as he pulls a mean trick, with Jive’s Backstreet Boys joining labelmate Spears by vying for the week’s second-highest debut with a total for their Unbreakable album that could top 100k. The boys to men will battle it out with WB’s art-metal band Avenged Sevenfold, who will rely on a strong presence at youth lifestyle retailer Hot Topic with their self-titled fourth album to challenge with sales between 90-100k. MCA Nashville’s Josh Turner is up next as his new album, Everything Is Fine, lives up to its title with a one-week sales estimate of 80k, mas or menos. Andrea Bocelli’s best of on Decca is in line to sell between 50-60k, but at this time of year, it could go ever higher, though the requisite PBS drive doesn’t start until December. Thanks to Carrie Underwood, the market was up 5% vs last week, down nearly 17% vs same week last year and now down 14.5% year-to-date. Now that’s scary. Lucy Goosie
In The Zone did 609k in week 1, 350k is still very impressive. Confessions did about that too.
