Never underestimate the sheer stupidity, willful ignorance, and apathy of many Americans. Let alone our incredibly short attention span.
I am watching the American news now and seems to be mixed results.

So, what are the predictions for the mid-term elections ? I thought Roe vs Wade over ruling would of been a reason for mass exodus of Republican support but many are saying it has no impact.
-
So disheartening and frightening that this election was so close. Ultra right wing ideology is thriving again in the world which is terrifying.

Sadly, I think this type of thing is becoming normalized and expected......even justified by some (prob not so much in this forum but generally speaking....def have read some "well, she had it coming..." type commentary). It's disgusting.
I was surprised that nothing regarding the 1/6 hearings was discussed here. There were so many shocking revelations. The indifference to blatant fascism and radical extremism is incredibly frightening and not something I thought I'd ever see in my lifetime.
Yes, I thought it would be discussed everywhere too. I think too that people are becoming too complacent regarding Trump and the way the Republican Party have been hijacked by right wing extremists and conspiracy Nutcases. Only 10 years ago, the events against democracy on January 6th would of had BOTH parties horrified and would of been frowned on by virtually everyone.
Now with Fox News and Murdoch media dominating so much, it legitimises behaviour and actions that would never have once been tolerated

Tweeting conspiracy shit like a boss...
Twitter is going to become unbearable now. Musk used to post outrageous conspiracy theories ( all proven to be false ) and is already being praised and worshipped by the ultra right and QAnon followers everywhere on Twitter. We all know he is a Trump supporter and hates Bernie Sanders for saying that millionaires should pay their fair amount of tax instead of paying less tax than poor people. He used to tweet back at Sanders tweets with anger. His version of "Free Speech" will be a free for all for conspiracy nuts, right wing racists, misogynists and rich people who don't want to pay tax.

Nancy Pelosi: family ‘heartbroken and traumatized’ by brutal attack on her husband
House speaker Nancy Pelosi said her family is “heartbroken and traumatized” after a brutal and bloody hammer assault on her husband that has shocked the US as it stands on the brink of tense and crucial midterm elections.
An intruder smashed his way through a rear door into the Pelosi’s house in San Francisco on Friday. The man confronted Paul Pelosi and shouted, “Where is Nancy.”
Paul Pelosi, 82, underwent surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands but his doctors expect a full recovery. However, the brutal attack – by a man who had posted online right-wing conspiracy theories – came amid rising warnings of political violence in the US.
In her first official statement on the attack, Nancy Pelosi said: “A violent man broke into our family home, demanded to confront me and brutally attacked my husband Paul. Our children, our grandchildren and I are heartbroken and traumatized by the life-threatening attack on our Pop.”
She added: “We are grateful for the quick response of law enforcement and emergency services, and for the life-saving medical care he is receiving. Please know that the outpouring of prayers and warm wishes from so many in the Congress is a comfort to our family and is helping Paul make progress with his recovery.”
Paul Pelosi remains in the hospital but “his condition continues to improve”, the speaker said.
The attacker now faces charges of attempted murder and other felonies.
David DePape, 42, has been named by police as the attacker. Formal charges will be filed on Monday, and his arraignment is expected on Tuesday, according to the San Francisco district attorney’s office.
In recent posts on several websites, he had reportedly expressed support for former president Donald Trump and embraced the cult-like conspiracy theory QAnon. The rambling posts included references to “satanic pedophilia”, aliens, antisemitic tropes and criticism of women, transgender people and censorship by tech companies.

I'm gonna watch it later this weekend, thanks for posting !Thanks Runa. After the segment on Meghan Markle hatred, they have a go at Murdoch paper and his sky news channel re twisting information about so called climate experts who are really well known climate change deniers ! Very interesting and infuriating how Murdoch and co try to twist information. @Kim @karbatalI think you will both find it interesting too. I love Media Watch.

Hope this appears in other countries. From Media watch in Australia. From 5.15 onwards. One of the best analysists of the over the top Meghan Bashing.

Oh and how the fuck do you host COP one year then just not bother going to the next? What a prick.
Pathetic. I suppose the Murdoch press and climate change deniers ( all love coal, oil and mining companies so much re the profits they give millionaires ) will have him as their new poster boy now.

Twitter will now become even more toxic with the extremes of all society being able to spew out dangerous and false beliefs, ideology and hatred with complete freedom.

Much better targets. Targeting fossil fuel lobbyists who deserve everything they get is much more powerful and has proper meaning.

I just think though that the people they are trying to convince about the urgency of climate action are only going to be more turned off rather than listening to them. Most young people are worried and concerned about climate change - as they should be. They are not the people they need to reach as most are on board and aware about climate change. It is crucial that the world takes action. It is the Murdoch and co press readers who believe the garbage that oil companies, conspiracy theorists and anti-climate change corporates with vexed money interests peddle to them. These people will never be reached through stunts like throwing soup on paintings. They will actually turn the other way completely which is more dangerous and infuriating. I think it taints their cause. Throwing soup on priceless paintings ( thank goodness the paintings are protected ) might get publicity but it just fits into the narrative of them being brats. Plus I still think it could inspire idiots to try to ruin artwork.

Just the serious STATESMAN we need in such difficult times...
Why on Earth can't the UK find someone to be the leader of their party who at least seems intelligent and can converse properly ? Being eloquent and an intelligent speaker was once something to aspire to but now it hardly seems remotely important.
-
Surely the UK public will vote the Tories out in the next election ( which should be now ) Are we also now seeing the flat out rejection of the false ‘trickle down’ narrative and ideology ie giving the very wealthy pay rises and low taxes while the rest of the population are utterly screwed over. It NEVER trickles down but only boosts the wealthy.

Iranian schoolgirl ‘beaten to death for refusing to sing’ pro-regime anthem
Another schoolgirl has reportedly been killed by the Iranian security services after she was beaten in her classroom for refusing to sing a pro-regime song when her school was raided last week, sparking further protests across the country this weekend.
According to the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations, 16-year-old Asra Panahi died after security forces raided the Shahed girls high school in Ardabil on 13 October and demanded a group of girls sing an anthem that praises Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
When they refused, security forces beat the pupils, leading to a number of girls being taken to hospital and others arrested. On Friday, Panahi reportedly died in hospital of injuries sustained at the school.
Iranian officials denied that its security forces were responsible and, after her death sparked outrage across the country, a man identified as her uncle appeared on state TV channels claiming she had died from a congenital heart condition.
Schoolgirls have emerged as a powerful force after videos went viral of classrooms of pupils waving their hijabs in the air, taking down pictures of Iran’s supreme leaders and shouting anti-regime slogans in support of Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old woman who died after being detained by Iran’s morality police for not wearing her hijab correctly in August.
The Iranian authorities responded by launching a series of raids on schools across the country last week, with videos appearing to show officers forcing their way into classrooms, violently arresting schoolgirls and pushing them into waiting cars, and firing teargas into school buildings.
In a statement posted on Sunday, Iran’s teachers’ union condemned the “brutal and inhumane” raids and called for the resignation of the education minister, Yousef Nouri.
News of Panahi’s death has further mobilised schoolgirls across the country to organise and join protests over the weekend.
Among them was 16-year-old Naznin*, whose parents had kept her at home for fear that she would be arrested for protesting at her school.
“I haven’t been allowed to go to the school because my parents fear for my life. But what has it changed? The regime continues to kill and arrest schoolgirls,” says Naznin.
“What good am I if I simply sit outraged at home? Myself and fellow students across Iran have decided to stand in protest on the streets this week. I’ll do it even if I have to now hide it from my parents.”
19-year-old Nergis* also joined the protests, and was hit by rubber bullets in her back and legs. She says Panahi’s death has motivated her and her friends to continue to protest, despite the danger.
She says what happened to Panahi – as well as the deaths of two other schoolgirls, 17-year-old Nika Shahkarami and 16-year-old Sarina Esmailzadeh, both at the hands of the Iranian security forces – has united young people across Iran under a common cause.
“I don’t have a single relative in Ardabil, but with this brutal crackdown on our sisters, who were just 16 years old, they’ve awakened the whole nation,” she says.
“We never knew we were so united – across the Baloch regions as well as the Kurdish regions. The world has heard about Nika, Sarina and Asra, but there are so many other nameless children who we know nothing about.
“It’s not just Asra’s death,” she says. “The Islamic Republic has been killing our people for 40 years, but our voices weren’t heard. Let the world know this is no longer a protest – we are calling for a revolution. Now that you’re all listening to our voices, we will not stop.”
According to the latest report by the Iran Human Rights group, 215 people, including 27 children, have been killed in the nationwide protests, as of 17 October.

so, what's the point? why this work? cuz it shows sunflowers and these idiots think they're greta?
van gogh is probably one of the last artists whose work you should pretend to vandalise for "justice". it's like destroying a kahlo piece in the name of "women rights"
Thank goodness it is well protected but this “publicity stunt” still is promoting attacking priceless art. Can give others ideas about destroying art.
Plus, they are wrecking their own cause. People are worried about climate change and want action but obnoxious idiots like this, turn people that are unsure etc off. Achieves nothing for climate change action apart from bad publicity. -
What an absolute disgrace they are. Vandalising a masterpiece - there is no excuses for them. Plus, does their cause no good at all. Destroying classic art is a disgraceful, idiotic and criminal thing to do.

He is such a disgusting person. Deliberately spreading lies to gain money for himself for years. Has no ethics and is cruel to the extreme. Even now he is begging for donations from his delusional and stupid audience to "fight this fraud and stabilise his company Infowars" The pain and trauma he has caused to the families of this horrific shooting is beyond horrible. So glad he has been ordered to pay 1 billion dollars.

Alex Jones has been ordered to pay Sandy Hook families nearly $US1 billion. He says he won't pay it
Alex Jones has been ordered to pay $US965 million ($1.5 billion) in damages to families of victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre for falsely claiming they were actors who faked the tragedy.
"Do these people actually think they're getting any of this money?" Jones said on a live broadcast of his Infowars show on Tuesday as the decision was being read in court.
So, will they?
Let's revisit the basics on the case.
Jones is an American conspiracy theorist and right-wing host and operator of Infowars.
For years, he claimed the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre — where 20 students and six teachers died — was staged as part of a government plot to take away Americans' guns.
On Thursday, he was ordered to pay $US965 million ($1.5 billion) to families of eight Sandy Hook Elementary School victims, plus an FBI agent who was among the first responders.
The plaintiffs said Jones turned their loss and trauma into years of torment by promoting the lie that the rampage was a hoax.
A Texas jury in August also awarded nearly $US49.3 million ($78.5 million) to the parents of another child killed in the tragedy, in a separate trial.
Both lawsuits accused Jones and Infowars’ parent company, Free Speech Systems, of using the mass killing to build his audience and make millions of dollars.
Experts testified that Jones’s audience swelled, as did his revenue from product sales, when he made Sandy Hook a topic on the show.
Jones also faces a third trial at the end of the year, also in Texas, in a lawsuit filed by the parents of another child killed in the shooting.
Families of the victims wept as the decision was handed down. Outside court, they said they hoped to finally grieve in peace.
Erica Lafferty, the daughter of slain Sandy Hook principal Dawn Hochsprung, testified that people mailed rape threats to her house.
"I wish that, after today, I can just be a daughter grieving my mother and stop worrying about the conspiracy theorists," she said.
However, she predicted that Jones's "hate, lies and conspiracy theories will follow both me and my family through the rest of our days".
Robbie Parker — who lost his 6-year-old daughter, Emilie — said outside the Connecticut court that he was proud that "what we were able to accomplish was just to simply tell the truth".
"And it shouldn't be this hard, and it shouldn't be this scary," said Mr Parker, who became an early focus for conspiracy theorists after he spoke at a news conference the day after the shooting.
Mark Barden testified that conspiracy theorists urinated on the grave of his 7-year-old son, Daniel, and threatened to dig up the coffin.
Can Jones pay the $US1 billion judgement?
It is unclear how much Jones can actually afford to pay from the verdicts.
During the trial in Texas, he testified he couldn't afford any judgement over $US2 million, and his lawyers said they planned to appeal and try to reduce the damages.
He also told the Texas jury he was "bankrupt", referring to his filing for bankruptcy for Free Speech Systems in late July.
However, economist Bernard Pettingill Jr. testified in this proceeding that Jones and his company were worth as much as $US270 million.
"Do these people actually think they’re getting any of this money?” Jones said on a live broadcast on his Infowars website on Tuesday as the verdict was being read
Journalist and author of Sandy Hook, Elizabeth Williamson, said the decision was "financially ruinous for Alex Jones".
"He is not wealthy enough to pay this judgement," she said.
During his live broadcast on Tuesday, Jones appealed to his audience to send him donations — but the money wasn't for the victims.
"The money you donate does not go to these people [the plaintiffs]. It goes to fight this fraud and it goes to stabilise this company [Infowars]."
With a sum of money so large — not to mention the additional $US49.3 million ($78.5 million) he was ordered to pay a family in the first trial, and a third trial looming — it poses the question: Will families ever receive the full compensation.

I am so disappointed that JK Rowling has become so horrendously obsessed with her unfair and awful hatred for the Trans community. The reason I am so disappointed is I actually loved the Harry Potter books and the wonderful messages in them. Found them very entertaining, well written and full of magic. @karbatal I know you loved them too. ( I always loved the books far more than the movies ) I also used to like a lot of what she stood for. So was initially a great surprise for me that she was so spiteful and hateful. Totally different to the things she stands up for in her novels. She now is totally obsessed - almost like a mental obsession that she refused to see other sides.
