  1. Thank you for posting this @Flip The Switch! Wonderful interpretation of the songs in this review. Have to say, this album is almost chilling for me to listen to now with everything going on. Madonna knew what was up, our girl is almost always a step ahead of the curve in one way or another. No, I'm not saying she's a prophet (before anyone gets their panties in a bunch...lol) but I do feel that a lot of times artists have an intuition about things that evades many people. Madame X is most definitely one of those albums like Erotica and AL that will be revisited down the road. Erotica, AL, LAP, ROL and MX......all of them delve deep into Madonna's psyche at that given moment in time.

This is a somewhat petty "complaint" but my only beef with this review is the exclusion of Extreme Occident. Would've loved to hear what they have to say about that one. Yeah, I know it's not on the regular edition but it's absolutely essential in my view.

Biden actually is not the weak candidate people think. He isn't exciting. But he is solid and he is the polar opposite of what we have and need now.

Even some of those against Trump are still somewhat addicted to the shit show aspect of it all. Literally, every single day for 4-5 yrs now we've had a CONSTANT barrage of insanity. I've heard others (even myself) say before that Biden is boring, middle of the road, "status quo" but I truly think we need someone a bit more leveled and centered at this moment. I do believe now more than ever that he MUST choose a female POC as his running mate. After the past week, I don't think that's really an option at this point.

Even with all the bullshit of the past 4 yrs and all the "deplorables" seemingly crawling out of the woodwork like termites, I do still firmly believe they're desperate. This IS their last big hurrah, their last breath so to speak and once we get them out....whether it be 2020 or 2024, that's going to be it for them. We will not allow it to happen again on this level.

Really wouldn't be surprised if a new world war wasn't on the cards to top it all off.

I feel like this and a Civil War in USA are almost inevitable at this point.

The US is absolutely at a boiling point on multiple levels. Even if Trump is voted out, it's a long long road ahead that Biden or any other Dem wouldn't be able to easily fix.

STILL around 40% 'approval' ffs !!! F'king *horrifying!! ~30%...still too high but...okay but FOUR out of 10....just :doh:DEF. enough to squeak it out again...watch! 😞

At this point 10% is too high in my opinion. His fanatics are well and truly brainwashed beyond help. I seriously questioned anyone that voted for him in 2016 but anyone that does this year AND actually loves him......well, like Hillary said, they're truly deplorable. And @Jazzy Jan u are absolutely correct. I can't imagine that most of his fanatics would appreciate or support this behavior in ANYONE else. Let's just imagine really quickly the conspiracy theories flying around IF Hillary were president right now and things happened just as they have under Trump's watch (they wouldn't have...but let's imagine) there would be absolute outrage, calls to kill her probably. He makes me sick. The awful thing is, even if he does lose in November, you know he already has a narrative created for how it's a scam, the election is a fraud, Biden cheated, everyone is against him etc.......and of course his little zombie deplorables will lap it up like little dogs. Sorry for that last comment, didn't mean to insult dogs. 🙂

  5. This makes me fucking sick. I'm sorry, but I just can't watch the video....it makes me cry and want to punch someone at the same time. How in the FUCK does this keep happening!?? Not only does it keep happening but there's DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE ON VIDEO of a lot of these murders and there are zero consequences. It has to stop!! I don't count on any punishment for this worthless piece of shit but I do pray that THIS TIME something will be different. May he rot in jail for the rest of his life and make his "little bitch boy" status official in the hands of the biggest BBC in the place. I'm not for the death penalty but if someone "Dahmer'd" his ass then.....OH WELL! 🤷‍♂️

See the debate with Pete and others. She was a total bitch to him. And a gay vp would be better.

I was team Pete up until he dropped out. Had planned on voting for him in primaries but instead went Bernie. As a gay man, obvs I'd love to see a gay vp and found him a breath of fresh air when he spoke. I still think he would've slaughtered Trump in debates simply because he's incredibly intelligent and had a way with words. Have to say though, I don't see how Amy was any worse than anyone else. Those debates got vicious at times but that's what debates are all about really, at the end of the day, I never thought any of them truly "hated" each other. They all have the same end goal. I found the critique of the candidates being "mean" to one another this time a bit odd, I mean, it's a debate, that's what happens and always has. Pete bit at Amy, Biden and Bernie just as much as they did at him. I have to say though, right now I do think a female VP would be a wiser choice.....especially a female of color, that will go a long way for Biden I think.

Oh Yes! Pete will be the perfect VP :inlove:

I think he's feeling the heat to pick a female VP.....a female VP of color preferably.

    She seems smug.

How so? I can see where she may seem fake in her humility to some with her "my father saved pennies in his peanut can" story several times but smug?? Never got that vibe from her.

Swear to God I don't think it is....lol.

Idk, perhaps if I had so many outside influences trying to tell me it's the worst performance ever, then I'd have a different opinion. Fortunately, nobody cares about Eurovision in USA so I was left to my own judgement. Also, I didn't have preconceived notions about what I thought it *should* be so there was no disappointment that she didn't do what she was "supposed" to do for the occasion.

Just wait. The second wave will be because of gays, immigrants, women. Never because a business man shook hands with another one.

Of course! Shades of early days of AIDS. So much easier to blame the Chinese, the gays, the Mexicans etc etc etc. More deflection.

Sorry Kurt that LAP was a shit performance!

Oh CC, no doubt this would most likely be ranked last in LAP performances for me (although that RIT/MTV OSAOTR/Hope For Haiti karaoke versions all come close....all of which are "tolerable" to me) but what I'm saying is she received some of the most vicious press I've ever seen her receive in her entire career because of this.....and idc how bad the LAP performance was, it wasn't proportionate to the terrible press she received. It just wasn't....sorry. 🤷‍♂️ The criticism went beyond the performance and was personal, idc if she took a shit on stage while singing LAP, it didn't warrant the press she got. Not so much in the States, here it basically went under the radar.

Totally get why Future would go over badly, nobody knew the song and it's......drab (although I love it in context of MX album). At the end of the day, Madonna did something that was against the grain for the occasion. She's done that many many times......sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

The most disappointing part of all of this for me was seeing her diehard fans turn on her and follow the crowd because it was the "popular" thing to do.

You know what, this is actually a decent little performance (the staging, lighting, backup dancers, costumes, etc). THE SONG CHOICES however were just a bit too... slow for the occasion.

    It’s FAR from terrible!

The day after the performance and 20 yrs from now, I'll say the same thing.......this was not a bad performance. The criticism for this is/was completely ridiculous and completely overblown. Appropriate for the occasion?? Maybe not. I'll give the critics that.....certainly wasn't what anyone was expecting....but in a way, that's totally something Madonna would do. We all thinking we're getting a bright, bubbly, anthemic Music or Hung Up performance and we get the end of the world instead....lol.

In fact, now that I'm further removed from the "critique" of it all, I like it even more. It was a pre-cursor to MX tour vibe.

At the end of the day, Madonna clearly gave zero fucks about what people said about it.....nor should she. Oh goodness.....a year later, it's still just as hilarious seeing how seriously people took this. Like she murdered their grandmother or something because she wasn't "bubbly" at Eurovision. Oh well.....suck it up buttercups.....lol.

  12. In these trying times, this song has become even more special to me. It's so bright, such a breath of fresh air with everything going on in the world. Perfect way to kick off the album and the perfect album opener, a bit of escapism before diving back into reality with DB, GC, Future etc.

Can't believe it's been over a year already. Who would've thought on that glorious day 4/17/19 that just one year later we'd be going through what we're going through now.

Oh, I can see what you mean there. I was hoping for another “movement” after the ballet, too, rather than a conclusion/coda (which is just a brief return to the refrain and a fade-out). I guess I kind of hoped maybe the tour version would maybe expand on it a little bit, too. It is still beautiful in its own way, though. I think, on some level, that track is not supposed to be fully satisfying in and of itself. It interrupts itself and ends abruptly— but that’s just the form following the message of the song maybe? With Joan of Arc as a template — her life was disrupted and cut short. I think there’s a certain respectable quality to the track reflecting those sad facts. Doesn’t mean that our ears aren’t left wanting more, though!

Yes! DB is still in my top 5 from MX but I totally agree always felt DB was about a minute or two too short. Needs to be one more "movement" but still love it nonetheless.

  14. The only song from the main album I could see being relegated to a bonus track in favor of Ciao Bella is Bitch I'm Loca, which I do actually like a lot. Ciao Bella has grown on me a lot though and I do now think it deserves a place on the album. I prefer it to I Rise, which is prob my least listened to from MX BUT I absolutely think it belongs on the album. Ciao Bella would've been good either before or after IR.

Divas half her age have retired to Vegas 😁

Yep! Practically ALL of the former "new Madonna's" of the past 30 yrs. That's the difference between "just" singers/pop stars vs. a true artist like Madonna.

There will NEVER be a "new Madonna" and Madonna IMO will NEVER retire. Even if she does end up doing a residency somewhere one day, it won't be like the others'.

I’ve been turing to this album lately in this time of complete and total insanity and uncertainty. It’s been a form of comfort, an album that’s been helping me channel my anger, grief, confusion, and overall mood from day to day. I guess you could say it finally ‘clicked’ with me.

Songs like Dark Ballet, Future, Killers Who Are Partying, Come Alive, I Don’t Search I Find, Looking For Mercy, and I Rise have completely new meanings to me during this pandemic. Even Medellin. Which has a form of escapism in it that takes me away from all of this for nearly 5 glorious minutes.

ALL of this right here. Although, for me this was an album that didn't take long to "click", I feel like it resonates even MORE with me now than it did almost a year ago thanks in part to current events. Medellin is more special now because, it does indeed take me back to.....well, last spring/summer, when everything was "normal", when we could have gatherings with friends/family, go to the beach, lay in the sun. This is normally my favorite time of year thanks in part to all of those things and obviously, everything is just upside down now. To think, at this time last year we were ecstatic as a new era was about to kick off.......clueless to the fact that the era would be cut short due to a fucking worldwide pandemic. Who would've thought? Future has all of a sudden become a lot more morbid to me (perhaps I'm taking it a bit TOO literally...lol). Loved Dark Ballet from the get-go but kind of went away from it for a bit, came back to it after I saw the tour but now it resonates more than ever. Just the overall "mood" of this album is very fitting for what's going on right now. Despite it being a June release, MX never really felt like a "summer" album to me in the way something like Hard Candy did. Always has had somewhat of a "dark" undertone to it....even if it's filled with glimmers of light as well.

Agree with others too, I can officially say at this point that MX is "essential" Madonna, up there with LAP and ROL. What I mean is that, like those two albums, MX is completely and totally a glimpse into Madonna's state of mind in 2019. Sure, ALL of her albums are to some degree but those three (and AL too really...even if it's not my fave) truly represent who Madonna is and what she's about circa 2019. This will definitely be one that is more appreciated over time.

Does anyone else just feel like crap?

I've been feeling very weak, fatigued and have body aches. Also shortness of breath.

I was recently in contact with someone who was in Italy about two weeks ago. A few days later I started to feel sick.

One morning I was fine and by the afternoon, I became very weak suddenly and was unable to finish cooking. I had to shut everything off and lie down.

But according to some people this is just like having the flu. I have never felt so weak and fatigued in all my life. I also have a compromised immune system so yeah that's worrying.

I've already called my local health hotline and told them of my symptoms. Their recommendation is for me to self quarantine. I'm pretty sure I have it. I just hope I haven't infected anyone.  I've been washing my hands all the time, wearing a mask when out in public and keeping my distance from others (not easy when you live in nyc).

The good news is around 80% of people who get it will recover so I'm hoping for the best.

I hope everyone here is doing okay. These are crazy times we're living in.

Take care of yourself Strawbs!! Wishing you a speedy recovery and please if you feel any worse reach out to your docs again. 🤗 ❤️

Hope you are not referring to me because I didn't blame Hilary for the past 25 years of history. I simply noticed all the analogies in American political history where in a country of 300m people it's always the samey samey elite two people who end up being the presidential candidates, thus giving the illusion of choice and "democracy" but in reality you're facing two options who represent the two faces of the same imperialistic coin. That's all

And no, misogyny does not have a role, certainly on my part, I gave very specific and pertinent examples as to why, among the Dem camp, Hillary Clinton should never have been a nominee in the first place.

And her own political track record aside, particularly given the rethoric Trump is accustomed to using and which is so appealing to a huge portion of the American public

Since we were discussing Sanders Vs Biden, the analogies I'm referring to. Biden is another Clinton Vs Trump. Sanders represents a real U turn instead and a breath of fresh air.

Middle America and the non coastal population is going to vote for Trump again, unless the Dems adopt a more credible stance and show some nerve rather than the mere demonisation of Trump, aided by a complicit media of course.

Truth is that their general attitude bar the Warrens and Sanders is counterproductive, they make it easy for the Trumps of the world to win, especially in a country like the US which is not homogeneously educated and aware

No, I'm not referring to you or necessarily anyone in this thread. I was more just generally speaking, based on my observations all of these years, mainly those of the far right tbh that simply consider her the absolute devil. I do think she's done good things and think she's incredibly smart. I also think the outright blind hatred people have for her is misplaced and it's impossible for ONE person to be responsible for the things she's given full blame for by many. Not to mention the out and out lies/conspiracies that surround her that have no basis on facts. That doesn't excuse her for any bad things she's done though. My whole thing is why don't others get the same venom she does? People that have done far worse and have more power. Something isn't right about that to me.

I do understand both sides are shady and have committed heinous, terrible things and there's definitely someone (or something) above them even that are calling many of the shots. I'm totally with you in regard to Bernie. I do have my reservations about how he'd fare with the general, "moderate" public, the "swing voters", however, I still placed my vote for him in the primaries this week and will happily vote for him if he's the nom in the general election. I don't find his policies extreme but I am skeptical about what he could realistically get done. I feel like he'd either win very big or lose very big against Trump, I don't think it'd be a race that was super "tight". If not Bernie, it is indeed going to take someone "outside of the box" to really grab people again.

And btw, I do (and always have) valued your opinions and enjoy your posts. :inlove:  You'd be the last person I'd consider misogynistic or "sexist" so sorry if you or anyone here thought I was specifically talking about them. Again, it's just generally speaking based on reading/hearing many different things over the years.

  20. I swear to God you'd think Hillary Clinton single handedly caused every horrible thing in the world politically (and otherwise) these past 25 yrs with the way people place blame on her for EVERYTHING....literally EVERYTHING, even now (and she's not active politically) is "her fault". I would never say some of the criticisms aren't justified.....but at a certain point it becomes ridiculous. Any of the atrocities she may have been complicit in, were FAR from just HER doing, however, you'd never really know that with how obsessed people are with placing the blame on her solely. Why doesn't John Kerry get even a sliver of the criticism she gets? Even Bush #2 doesn't get the shit she gets now. By far the most hated politician that was never even president.

And deny deny deny all you want....there IS a modicum (and I'm being generous) of sexism involved. I woke up with a headache today.....Hillary's fault?? 🙄

And let me add, I can't think of anyone that has been as publicly humiliated by her husband's "extramarital" behavior and SHE is the one that gets blamed for it. There was (and is) ZERO sympathy towards her for that. There's also zero acknowledgement for her getting through that mess. Not only is there no acknowledgement but it's perfectly acceptable to shame and blame her for HIS behavior. Truly, I've never seen anything like it. I find her similar to Madonna in a sense in that, you can pretty much say whatever horrible things you'd like, blame her for things that aren't necessarily her fault and NOBODY cares. All bets are off when it comes to Hillary.....even in this "SJW" era we live in. The latest thing is acting like Monica was some poor kid that didn't know what she was doing and Hillary was complicit with it all. That's bullshit. That woman was an adult that was flat out in love with another woman's husband. I'm not shaming Monica, she was indeed young and probably vulnerable and naive but please let's not act like Bill snatched up some 14 year old while Hillary turned a blind eye.

Young voters have proven to be far more politically active on Twitter than they have at the voting booth. They had their choice to come out and make their revolution happen and they blew it. I’m tired of anyone 18-24 that screams about college debt, environmentalism, healthcare, etc but when you ask them who they voted for, it’s a “no one because they’re all the same”

No, child. They’re not. And while Biden was FAR from my first choice, I’ll vote for him. Because I don’t need to have the warm and fuzzies in the voting booth when I check the box.

So they can all take several seats.

And this is some REAL shit right here. You echo my sentiments exactly.

So sick of everyone hoping for some "unicorn" candidate.....it'll NEVER HAPPEN.

Biden was towards the bottom of my list of the candidates but I'll absolutely be voting for him in November if he's the nom.....with a smile....no doubt! I'm so over these over sensitive, unrealistic SJW's. I said it before, but it's worth repeating.....they're every bit as detrimental as Trumpers to this race. I KNOW if Bernie loses the nom (which is looking likely) there's gonna be those that not only don't vote Dem, but may even vote Trump as some sort of "revenge", it happened in 2016 so it'll happen in 2020, no doubt.
