[Verse 1]
You can call me a sinner
You can call me a saint
Celebrate me for who I am
Dislike me for what I ain't

Put me up on a pedestal
Or drag me down in the dirt
Sticks and stones will break my bones
But your names will never hurt

[Chorus 1]
I'll be the garden
You be the snake
All of my fruit is yours to take
Better the devil that you know
Your love for me will grow

Because

[Chorus 2]
This is who I am
You can
Like it or not
You can
Love me or leave me
But I'm never going to stop

No no

[Verse 2]
Cleopatra had her way
Matahari too
Whether they were good or bad
Is strictly up to you

Life is a paradox and it doesn't make much sense
Can't have the Femme without the Fatale
Please don't take offense
Don't let the fruit rot under the vine
Fill up your cup and let's drink the wine
Better the devil that you know
Your love for me will grow
Because

[Chorus 2][x2]

[bridge]
No no you know[repeat]

[Chorus 1]

[Chorus 2]

[Outro]
No no you know[repeat]

The closing song on the Confessions album shows that defiant take me or leave me attitude that we all love in Madonna. This song has an almost anthemic tone to it and wouldn't be out of place in a musical. This is Madonna saying I'm still here no matter what life has thrown at me and you can either love me or hate me but either way I will stay true to who I am and that's a fantastic message for anyone to hear. She makes great use of her lower register here and also has some quite good lyrics amid the cliches. Her performance of this song during the Confessions Tour is so simple, yet so captivating and powerful - one of her great live moments in my opinion. Hearing this song makes me sad that she never finished writing any of the musicals she was working on as I think she has a fantastic gift for what works on the big stage.

Favorite Lyric : Can't have the Femme without the Fatale
