This song has got a warmth and intimacy in her delivery that brings out its true meaning. Although it deals with very sad subject matter, it's actually quite hopeful as it reassures us that those who leave us are never truly gone - they live on in other ways for us and continue to bring comfort and a feeling of security. The song also uses a sample from Aaliyah's "Back and Forth" and after her unfortunate passing at such a young age, it adds even another layer to the song's poignancy. While the lyrics are poignant, you can still enjoy the funky slow beats in the background. It's always nice to have juxtapositions in her songs. Her vocals in this are so different from those in "Take a Bow" and "Bedtime Story", and yes they are all on the same album -- a true testament to her singing versatility. Don't fuck with Madonna. Interesting that if people did not know that is was about her mother, It could be a beautiful tribute to an ex lover. I just adore this song.
