I can't believe acko even claims to like it as a guilty cheesy Euro type pleasure (even though we all know all continental Europeans love a bit of Eurotrash, usually not on an ironic level but they pretend that it's only ironic ) I have to say top 3 TV "Hung Up" performances - 1. EMA - QUEEN!!!!!!!!! 2. Grammys - functional and fabulous but lacking that extra oomph 3. The tour performance for how beautiful she looked. The only thing bad I can say about the Confessions era was that she really only put out 1 good video and the rest ranged from meh to shit. There's a power and sense of narrative in Madonna's dance at the top of Hung Up; Call on me has objectified women squatting and thrusting their pussies, pouting for the benefit of the male gaze in a video that just falls short of being a softcore wank fest. And, to me, it's much more offensive than something like Justify My Love or Erotica. Honestly some of you are worse then the press. You should know by now that she goes through periods where people don't like what she does and then when you least expect it she'll be back. "Hung Up" in fact was exactly like that. Yeah, I'm just one of those people not particularly thrilled with the way things have gone in recent years - in more than one respect. But, you're right. I've been a longtime fan and I should know what she's capable of ... and I do, which is why i'm still here and follow her. I'm just bored at the moment. I hat e to brag (again) but I was there in the audience and it was just One of the most memorable concert moments of my life! Everybody had high expectations but no one knew what she was gonna look like and what she was gonna do on stage. When she came on she just blew us all away ... It was one of those classic M performances where everything just seems to fall into place and even her bad/raspy vocals contribute to the greatness of it all. I agree with what many have said -- Madonna in the dance studio, the little girl at the bus stop, the heavier-set woman in the gold sequined top on the subway, the lights on the boombox, the slow-mo tunnel shots... I think my favorite bit with Cloud is actually with the fish in the restaurant. Love his moves there! What I think is most impressive is if you watch the making of, you're reminded how she was still recovering from her injury and was on painkillers -- couldn't raise her one arm above a certain point... I mean, that's pretty dedicated, and the choreography is fun and works around her mobility limitations at the time. She's just a hard worker.
