Madonna, How About Some Australian Shows?

I think I'm more annoyed to think she actually did a SECOND LEG of the same fucking tour and they still couldn't organise dates

P!nk has 43 SOLD OUT shows set for 2009 after doing 35 sold out shows in 2007 in Australia with more to be going on sale next week and yet Madonna can only be bothered touring here for 7 shows once in 25 years and that was 16 years ago.

I think it's fucked.

Yes it's fucked and unfair. But we've been here before and we'll be here again I'm sure. I was beaten up badly by people in this forum when Madonna didn't tour down here with Confessions after she said she would. I was told "Madonna will tour Australia next time" how many more times can we possibly here this it's laughable. We should just bite the bullet and accept it Madonna doesn't give a shit about us she'd prefer to tour countries like Serbia and Romania then come to Australia :sour:

when was the last time Madonna had a #1 single or album in Serbia or Romania?

It's bullshit, that's right Madonna, you had a #1 single AND album here in Australia in 2008, 2005 and 2000 in case you didn't notice.

Don't get mad aussie fans!

Madonna will tour Japan and Australia just after Moscow. These dates will be announced later, like it happened with Japanese dates during Confessions Tour.

She did eight shows in 1993 - 3 each in Sydney and Melbourne, and 1 each in Brisbane and Adelaide :)

"Music" the album didn't actually go to #1 in Australia - it was kept at #2 by the Olympics album, unfortunately!! "Evita" aside, it was her first album to miss #1 in Australia since LAP in 1989.

Someone at another forum who works for Ticketmaster is very confident that a tour will be announced soon. Without confirming that it's actually Madonna, he's got a lot of info about a "major stadium tour" and he was also the first to break the news about U2's Australian tour a while back, so we'll see whether he proves to be right or not.

BTW - I still love your signature, tiger!!!

Who am I kidding right... as if I would ever start listening to Kylie. I'm just pissed off cos it's been soo long, it shouldn't matter about money or distance.. she should come down here to show her fans that she loves them.

totally understandable but i think she will make it there. xo

These are only the first dates announced, it must be more than just Europe surely. Not as if she hasn't been there enough.

She has such a huge fanbase in Oz and they were amongst the first to support her - remember all those Molly Meldrum interviews?

Still, it's a real slap in the face if she does ignore there again, especially since she did South America. So far to travel and expensive for her fans. The Girlie Show was so long ago, though at least it was documented on DVD. If she does play Oz, I hope she plays Perth!

Madonna extends Sticky & Sweet tour but not in North America

The touring industry is ebullient since Madonna has extended her Sticky & Sweet Tour for a second year, something she has never done. Madonna will perform 24-25 European concerts this summer beginning July 4 in London, ENG and the last one booked so far is on August 20 in Ljubljana, SLO. Paul Oakenfold is the opening act on all of the extended tour dates.

Sixteen concert dates have been released, and the London concert is the only repeat market from last year. The rest of the tour will include appearances in cities she has never performed in before, such as Werchter, BEL; Marseille, FRA; Hamburg, GER; Oslo, NOR; Helsinki, FIN; Tallinn, EST; and Ljubljana, SLO; as well as stops in Romania, Hungary, Serbia and Bulgaria.

She has booked a few cities that she has not performed in for more than 15 years, inculding Madrid, SPA; Gothenburg, SWE; and Munich, GER. Shows are to be announced for Bulgaria, Hungary, Russia, Romania and Serbia.

Arthur Fogel, Live Nation's Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring/Artist Nation, advised TicketNews that there is "no chance for a North American extension of the tour."

"This is a first for me," Madonna said in a statement. "I've never extended a tour before. I'm excited to be going back on the road, visiting places I've never been and returning to places I love."

In 2008, the Sticky & Sweet Tour was seen by 2.35 million fans in 58 cities and grossed about $282 million. The tour boasted record-breaking ticket sales everywhere, including 650,000 tickets sold in her series of South American dates; 72,000 tickets at Zurich's Dubendorf Airfield -- the largest audience ever assembled for a show in Switzerland; 75,000 tickets in London and four sell outs in New York's Madison Square Garden (60,364 tickets).

"This new run of dates will further solidify Madonna's position as one of the top selling touring artists of all time," added Fogel, the tour producer.

And despite reports in the Australian media that four concerts are scheduled for an September/October outing Down Under, Fogel said that there is no validity to the reports. Madonna has only toured Australia once -- back in 1993.

Even when the Aussie $$ was quite strong in 04 and 06 (I think it was 90cents to the American $) Madonna still didn't come. It aint ever going to happen folks booo hiss poo boo burn mother fuckers burn!

The Aussie dollar has only been worth US90c once over the past 20-odd years - in the middle of last year (when the negotiations were taking place for the January dates, which has already been confirmed by Michael Coppel). It peaked at US97c before it started nose-diving down to 60c. This was when negotiations broke down for the January shows. In 2004 and 2006, the dollar was in the high 60s compared to the US dollar, so only around 10% better than it is now. In 2001, it was worth below US50c, so there wasn't a hope in hell of the DWT making it out here.

Arthur Fogel has yet to say that an Australian leg isn't happening. All he's said is that there is no "validity" to the dates that the Australian media are listing as confirmed dates. There are still people in the know who are saying that it's happening in September. We'll just have to wait and see....

I read the press release the same way as you did. Fogel said there was "no chance" of it coming back to North America, but his sentence about Australia is phrased differently. It seems to me if they weren't considering Australia they would have said there's no chance it's coming to Australia too. The way they connected the statement about Australia to the four rumored dates seems to indicate they are considering Australia, but they haven't finalized the exact dates yet.
