move on people...I’m glad we’re getting so close to the tour!
Why is this still brought up?? Did I miss something??
From what I remember, it was just an off the cuff comment she made (that could be interpreted in many ways) in one of her IG stories months ago that people ran with.

It's tragic reading people STILL haven't received or are just receiving items now.......over 2 months after album release. There's just no excuse. They should just close up shop at this point, seriously or hand it over to someone else that gives a f*ck.
They had ONE job!! I ended up getting all of my stuff but still, never again!!!

Well the concept of something "catching on" is entirely different from the pages of posts I just read with people lamenting how it's obviously the lack of commercial success which has led to many people just being indifferent towards this album (as reflected here and elsewhere). Nor do I agree with the assertion that because someone dislikes the particular music an artist is making at any one point, that they automatically "always will" dislike it.
Well, lack of commercial success and the ability for something to "catch on" can kind of go hand in hand in a lot of ways as far as I can tell. I understand we're in a Madonna forum here so it's likely many of us will give the album a fair shot regardless. I'm going to take GGW for example though.....I really disliked that song....or was at least very indifferent to it....until I saw MDNA tour and was blown away by the live performance.....then the friend I took to the show became absolutely enthralled with it (yeah, don't get it either really...lol) but that turned my indifference into an overall like for the song.....I tend not to skip it if it comes up on shuffle, just put it that way. You're absolutely right though in regard to "always" disliking something....poor word choice on my part. I've revisited many M songs I didn't care for YEARS later and ended up liking them.

I love Veni Vidi Vici, but Extreme Occident is even more powerful to me as the story of her life set to song. There is something about the lyrics and the way she sings this song that make me feel the weight of all the people who have been cruel to her, a woman who has done so much for the world with her message and beautiful music. And there is a complexity to the lyrics as she talks about how she silenced her own voice at times when she actually was never wrong, never lost at all. Possibly one of the most important songs of her career?
This right here!!

Also, where did this ridiculous FAKE narrative of people not caring about Madame X just because of 'lack of commercial success' come from?
Have you never been indifferent towards or even disliked a popular song only to be out a club or party with friends and have a special moment happen with the song playing? Or meet a special someone while a popular song you could've cared less about is playing? I have and it's changed my perception of songs/albums before....many times. Or have a friend bring a song/album to your attention because it's important to them for whatever reason so you listen to it with a new perspective? Or plain and simple, you just hear a song enough on radio/out and about where it finally catches on for you? If the songs aren't being played anywhere how can any of these type of memories be created? No doubt these things can happen with unpopular/more unknown music but odds are greater when songs are more universal and you're hearing them when you're out to eat, shopping, clubbing, just hanging out with people etc. It's not a negative or even necessarily an intentional "I hate it cuz it's not on the charts" thing at all. Don't think that's what anyone is saying. In the case of MX, it just means these types of scenarios are less likely to happen if you're only listening to it occasionally at home with headphones, in the car or at the gym as I assume many of us are at this point (except in Brazil perhaps with FG
).
Also, this doesn't negate the fact that some people just may simply hate the music and always will (we have people here that dislike LAP ffs) but it's not an absurd notion to think the more positive memories you have attached to or the more you hear something that it may just catch on with you for any number of reasons.

I absolutely do NOT wear the same underwear every day.
I sleep naked and will put on same underwear from day before to do workouts, then shower and put new underwear on. If I do other activity through the day that gets me sweaty, I'll take another shower and change underwear again! Just sayin....lol.

There's a lot of soul and emotion in Madame X, you know there was more in mind than just chart success. It's great to see M willing to take risks because she could have just gotten more safe, but she's at a place now where she can afford to take risks.
Exactly! If this is a taste of the future, I'm totally ok with it. On the one hand it makes me sad that some people may not be able to enjoy the era because of any lack of commercial success. On the other hand, that (to some degree) has always been an exciting part of following the eras of a mega-star like Madonna so I do get it. It's not a total bust in that regard though, sure, no singles have set the charts alight anywhere but the album did do well in many places. I know what we're used to but I don't think we should immediately snuff at a top 5 (or number one) debut anywhere. That's HUGE for someone at this stage in their careers. The album has sold well over 400k worldwide at this point.....in a time where the lower end of the year end top 10 charts for album sales worldwide is about 900k, truly she's not doing too shabby. More importantly though, she's totally blown me away artistically this go round. Madame X has made me incredibly excited for the future. I truly think this next phase in her career is going to bring some of her deepest work yet.

I am so tired of the concept "outdated"
I hate that too.....especially in regard to dance/pop music, which tends to use the most current, often times "trendy" or even experimental (for their time) sounds. To me the disco era produced some of the best dance/pop songs ever that remain phenomenal....not one of them doesn't sound like it's from the 70's though. Idk why that should be considered a bad thing.

I know how important this is to so many Madonna fans through reading this forum for years but being " cohesive" never is of any influence to me or effects my enjoyment of albums by anyone. My love for Madonna's music is loving the songs and her interpretation and performances of them.
Madonna being "cohesive" most definitely isn't a necessity for me in any way. In fact, having albums that have songs that may sound different from one another keeps things interesting....variety is good. I'm probably one of the few that actually likes MDNA. That album has some great songs, you can skip around, create your own playlist of the songs however you'd like and it really doesn't disrupt any "flow" or overall "mood". I feel like you can do that some with RH and even Music as well. For me there's something special though when an album creates a whole mood or atmosphere where you just get completely lost in the music for the whole duration of the album in the way Erotica, ROL, COADF, MX etc do, where the whole is better than the sum of the parts. To me re-sequencing tracks on any of those albums is pretty close to blasphemy lol. Those albums are like going on a journey when you put them on....at least for me they are and it's typically her more cohesive albums that evoke that feeling. Doesn't make the others inferior in any way though, simply different.
1 hour ago, Jazzy Jan said:We all have different favourite songs and albums because Madonna provides us with those choices. Makes being a Madonna fan and reading people's favourite songs off each album interesting.
She has a flavor for everything. That's what makes her so amazing. We pretty much have something to select for any and every mood and that's something fans of many other artists can't say!!

Everytime I listen to this album I feel it is too short, because it is so involving. That is a special quality that not every album (even Madonna's) has
You said it perfectly! This is exactly how I feel everytime I listen to it as well. Even though I've heard the album literally hundreds of times at this point, the sonic journey it takes me on from beginning to end is still so incredibly exciting to me. May sound silly but it truly is like touring the world in a way, there are just so many twist and turns and for me that makes it as fresh as it was the first time I heard it a couple months ago now. That excitement makes the whole listening experience fly by. ROL remains one of my top 2-3 favorite albums by her, while Erotica would probably be more towards the bottom of the list (sorry!!) the one thing they have in common though is that towards the end of those albums I sometimes find myself getting a bit antsy and that's always been the case (especially with Erotica....I truly don't remember last time I listened to it front to back). MX runs right around the same time as both of those albums and that absolutely doesn't happen when I listen to it.
I flashback to the very first "hints" regarding the sound of the album early this year, before anyone had heard anything and it was described as not being necessarily cohesive but the songs still come together and create a uniform body of work that makes it feel unlike a MDNA or RH. Having heard it now, that description fits so perfectly. RH absolutely has some of the strongest straight up pop melodies/hooks of her entire career. Something about her approach to the structure of those songs was very 80's Madonna to me and that I LOVE! Despite having more depth than a lot of her very early songs they still manage to have that instantaneous quality in a lot of ways. Just thinking of the first time I heard RH, WAOM, Ghosttown, BN and demo version of HT and I was just bowled over at how catchy and just "pure pop" everything was. MX really couldn't be more opposite in that regard. Definitely still some strong hooks/melodies there without a doubt but for those that appreciate a more straight up pop sound without a lot of bells and whistles, there just isn't a lot to offer on MX in that regard (Crave and perhaps Crazy). This is 100% an ALBUM, a sonic journey...not really a collection of songs you can pick and choose.
M herself said it best when she said that MX is not background music and that is also very true. It's an album you have to really LISTEN to in order to fully appreciate. It's truly a work of art. Having it on low volume in the background while doing a whole list of other things just doesn't cut it with this album. So very proud of her for pulling an album like this out at this stage of her career. I still say RH (the song) perfectly encapsulates the state of mind of modern day Madonna but as it turns out that was sort of the teaser for MX. She really went all in with it. MX IS Madonna circa 2019 through and through (like her/it or not).

@XXL being all sensible in this thread per usual.
I do hope her albums continue to do decently upon debut as that's revealing enough in itself. As for anything else, who fucking cares anymore really?
In fact, we should embrace this period in her career with open arms as we're likely to get some of her most "pure" art since she doesn't have to worry as much about singles topping the charts. I think back to MDNA when all most people wanted was for songs like Gang Bang, Love Spent and Falling Free to be singles as they were truly the best songs on the album (NONE of which are traditional "single" material). The songs she released as singles from that album REALLY were the most "obvious" singles. At that point, she wasn't quite there yet in terms of saying "fuck the singles charts". I think she is now and look what we've gotten as a result of that! She's just releasing the songs she WANTS to release and making some of the best videos of her entire career for them. I think the sunset of her career is going to be very interesting! No reason she can't go for another 20 yrs at least at this point (and who knows there very well could be an unexpected surprise smash in there at some point).

Was it a PF Chang’s by any chance?
I honestly haven't gotten into remixes in yrs from any artist. I'm still working on getting through all of the MDNA and RH remixes.....I got a good leg up on it pre MX release. Still haven't listened to all the MX mixes.
Anyone know who has good mixes these days?? I hate most pop songs now so idk if mixes would save them or not.
-
I like them both and am thankful they're both on the main album but vote goes to Faz. These two tracks bring a touch of fun to that last stretch of the album. It's a nice breather between the more serious/dramatic tunes.
I can't say it enough but I think the sequencing on this album is absolutely perfect. I've listened to the bonus tracks a little more now and still feel they're all inferior to any of the songs on the main album.

Its not true. Señorita is upbeat, flirty and fun. I like Crave but its sad and melancholic. I love. M but thats she brings now - melancholy and angst and very little fun other than her being a cougar. It's so tired and not selling. I know ill get hate for it but saying it because its true and I care. People say she's doing her own thing and not repeating herself and its fine when she's spiky on TV because thats what makes her her. Fine, but we have to accept she's not longer going to sell records anymore.
Rather transparent wouldn't you say. You should just come out and say what you really want to say.

The FBI Said Conspiracy Theories Like QAnon And Pizzagate Are Domestic Terrorism Threats
“Identity based, and fringe political conspiracy theories” are very likely to motivate some domestic terrorists to “commit criminal and sometimes violent activity,” the memo warns.
The FBI considers conspiracy theories that are born and spread online a dangerous breeding ground for domestic terrorists, according to recently revealed bulletin produced out of the agency’s Phoenix field office.
The May 30 memo, first obtained by Yahoo News, states that federal authorities believe “identity based, and fringe political conspiracy theories” are very likely to motivate some domestic terrorists to “commit criminal and sometimes violent activity,” since certain narratives “tacitly support or legitimize violent action.”
The bulletin specifically refers to QAnon, a baseless conspiracy theory that a shadow network is working against President Trump, and that an insider, “Q,” knows how it will be exposed. The FBI office also describes how QAnon theorists believe that Trump is leading an effort “to dismantle a conspiracy involving ‘deep state’ actors and global elites allegedly engaged in an international child sex trafficking ring.”
Trump supporters have embraced the conspiracy theory, wearing shirts and hats that feature the letter “Q” at his rallies.
Members of the QAnon community expressed their anger and disbelief on Twitter, exclaiming, “how can Q and POTUS let this happen?”
The 15-page bulletin is the “first FBI product examining the threat of conspiracy theory–driven domestic extremists” and lists instances in which suspects plotted or carried out “deadly violence” because of false, fringe theories that they had found online.
They include that a gunman who killed 11 people at the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh last October, for example, had reposted a Zionist Occupation Government conspiracy theory cartoon on social media. In June 2018, a man from Nevada decked out with body armor, rifles, and ammunition was arrested and referenced QAnon.
On Tuesday, the Daily Beast reported that Twitter suspended an account that blasted conspiracy content, including QAnon material, after the president retweeted a theory that Democrats are the ones “interfering in our elections.”
The FBI document also cites Pizzagate, the bogus theory that Democratic operatives tied to Hillary Clinton were running a child sex-trafficking ring out of a pizza restaurant in Washington, DC. In 2016, a man from North Carolina showed up to the joint with an AR-15 rifle, shot through a door, and aimed it an employee thinking he was saving trafficked children.
“The FBI assesses these conspiracy theories very likely will emerge, spread, and evolve in the modern information marketplace, occasionally driving both groups and individual extremists to carry out criminal or violent acts,” the bulletin states. “These targets are then subjected to harassment campaigns and threats by supporters of the theory, and become vulnerable to violence or other dangerous acts.”
In its bulletin, the FBI’s Phoenix Division also points out that because some conspiracy theories are highly partisan, major political events like the 2020 presidential election cycle will probably produce more extremists.
Although the bulletin acknowledges that conspiracy theory–driven crime is not new, it emphasizes how “today’s information environment” and “crowd-sourcing” have changed the way the content more easily spreads and evolves.
“It is logical to assume that more extremist-minded individuals will be exposed to potentially harmful conspiracy theories, accept ones that are favorable to their views and possibly carry out criminal or violent actions as a result,” the document states.
When asked about the Phoenix Division’s bulletin, an FBI spokesperson told BuzzFeed News that it is the agency’s standard practice to “not comment on specific intelligence products.”
“The FBI routinely shares information with our law enforcement partners in order to assist in protecting the communities they serve,” the spokesperson said.

This could have it's own thread I suppose but it sort of ties into the upcoming election.......after all, the whack jobs embracing these conspiracies were certainly a huge contributor to the result of 2016. I've actually met people like this and it's truly mind boggling. Most are quite sensible in other aspects but somehow allow themselves to get wrapped up in conspiracy theory bullshit that can be made up by anybody, anywhere.

She doesn't seem to like the music that her audience really want from her - pop that you can dance to. If she wanted a hit shed make dance pop music again but she seems to believe a young urban audience are going to embrace her. Thats never going to happen.
Have you even listened to the latest album?? I'd hardly say it's geared to a young urban audience.
The only time you could remotely say she did that was with Hard Candy and considering it produced one of the biggest hits of her career + other minor hits + sold 4 million copies, I'd say it was at least a moderate success. Just because a collaborator is black doesn't automatically make them "urban". Wtf
And no, not all of her fans want her to constantly do "dance pop" and thank God she doesn't.....and even if she did do that, I think some fans are under a bit of a delusion to think that it'd automatically be a success because of that. There are SO many other factors now that contribute to a hit that weren't even on the radar back in 2005 when she last hit with a "disco stomper"

I think we forget that Hillary actually won the popular vote with almost as many popular votes as Obama won with in 2012. She had somewhere around a 2.8 million lead over Trump (roughly 65 million vs. Trump's 62 million), while Obama had around a 2.9 million lead over Romney in 2012. So, while she clearly didn't run a perfect campaign, in almost any other instance she would've won the election.....we can thank the archaic Electoral College process for fucking that up. Not sure where this narrative that Hillary was totally absent from battleground states began but here's an article to straighten some things out:
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/hillary-clinton-donald-trumps-campaigns-numbers/story?id=43356783
Personally, I think Comey fucked it up for HIllary. That last email "controversy" just days before the election probably swayed those that already thought she was shady. In the end, it turned out to be a bunch of nothing. Unfortunate really.
