Rugbyguy Posted May 1, 2014 Share Posted May 1, 2014 I really strongly feel that MDNA is a classic Madonna album with that classic Madonna sound. It just feels like a Madonna album and it was so refreshing to hear her actually sing and stretch her vocal chords after HC and Confessions where the vocals just didn't seem like a priority. HC just feels like it's all sung in the one key and that is my only critique of it. As good as Confessions is (and it is) some of the vocals are slightly disappointing too. MDNA just has so much variety in sound, theme, lyrics and vocals. Some of the songs are simply up there with her best, GGW, Gang Bang, I'm Addicted, Some Girls, I'm A Sinner, Falling Free and LoveSpent (which is one of the best songs she has ever recorded). That's over half the album listed and I just can't say that about HC. Even the best songs on HC like Give It 2 Me, Beat Goes On and She's Not Me are absolutely slaughtered by the best songs off MDNA. To me she really smashed it out of the ball park with MDNA and it deserved to be a lot more successful than it was, even in today's music climate. I was floored by MDNA, absolutely floored. While MDNA suffers from too many producers, it's best songs are amongst the best she's recorded in years, in my opinion. I pick MDNA because I listen to it more. I will say this though, there is a trend of people who always dislike whatever Madonna's latest album is (Hard Candy was trashed by many before MDNA was released), so I'm sure in a few years MDNA will be appreciated more. MDNA's reception was pretty good when it was first released; only when it started to "underperform" many fans, unsurprisingly, began to dislike it and now prefer Hard Candy. I was one of the few who loved Hard Candy even when some here was disappointed with it. With MDNA, it's perfect for the iTunes era where you can just pick songs apart and not play the entire album.
