fak
But now its all changed. Before there was a problem and now its no longer there. People are buying singles again and huge enough quantities. The singles sales chart is so much more diverse. Radio does nt always play whats popular - If a song has big enough digital sales it should have some reasonable airplay. new artists, older artists over 40 and different genres should be given a chance Maybe there would be higher sales if more artists/new music were given more mainstream radio play. Seriously- Billboard didn't do away with singles sales- record labels did. What peopel also fail to comprehend is that Billboard is an indusry publication, that is bought by and large by industry people. The charts are meant to serve the industry and what is popular, not to cater to individuals who wantto see their favorite tracks hit thehighest possible position they can. Having said that, I'm sure BB's rule to allow airplay-only tracks to chart on the Hot 100 led some to not release a commercial single when they may have otherwise, but those instances were few and far between (i.e. "Beautiful Stranger" and "American Pie" being two that probably would have been released commercially- it's not like all of a sudden people thought, "Oh, maybea commercial single takes awayfrom album sales"- albums and singles had been co-existing just fine for 30+ years!). Far too many popular tracks were not represented on the Hot 100, because the record labels didn't release a single for them- and something had to be done about that. thebigham
HITS: VIVA LA WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW: Capitol’s Coldplay will run away with next week’s chart; the only question involves the final total, which at this point looks like it’ll be in the 700-725k range. Universal Motown’s Lil Wayne will move another 290-315k in its second week, while Disney’s debuting Camp Rock soundtrack, featuring the Jonas Brothers, is headed toward 200-225k. From there on, the numbers revert to 2008 form. Capitol’s Now 28 should stay in six figures with 100-105k, with Usher (LaFace/ZLG) rounding out the Top 5 with 65-70k. Plies (Slip-N-Slide/Atlantic) should land at #6 with 60-65k, followed by three more debuts: The Offspring (Columbia) at 50-55k, with the same label’s Judas Priest and Capitol’s Katy Perry both projecting 45-50k, as are Rihanna’s deluxe edition, released this week on Def Jam/IDJ, and Reprise’s Disturbed. Guest nothingfails0603
I think with Father's Day being over that HC shouldn't have too hard a time hanging in the top 40 another week
